@dbstewart864 жыл бұрын
Because he wasn't aware. Every time, at least in this series of clips, she approached being vulnerable she hid behind a smoke screen, generally being abrasive to swing away from her vulnerability. You see it at 57 seconds and during the club scene, where immediately after asking if he misses her, she attacks a soft spot and says it's all a joke. She seems to have always been a little tough and she's scared of revealing herself to him long enough at one time for him to figure it out, except the end of the club scene and she immediately takes off rather than let it play out right then. That's the conclusion that she reached, but she only verbalized half of it outright; she loves him but her difficulty in saying so will drive her to jealousy, pushing him away and she'd rather step back some and still be friends than to allow her jealousy to cause him to hate her.
@alexandriaconstandinoglu1472 жыл бұрын
@@dbstewart86 I’d just like to say, I absolutely love your analysis of this clip and what it means for the character of Watts, because I have had this exact thought in my head for a while and I’ve been trying to put it into words, and you did so very eloquently and accurately. I really appreciate the depth that you put into you analysis. I honestly aspire to be able to identify and analyze a characters feelings and emotions, and put said analysis into words just as did here, so thank you so much for your lovely, meaningful, and eye opening anatomy of this scene and of the character as well. Funny, because in the other John Hughes movies, it's the boy in love with the girl but she doesn't realize it and is infatuated with someone else. He just switched the sexes for this movie, so this time it's the girl who is friendzoned and the guy who goes and tries to date someone popular because 1. he doesn't realize he will never fit in with their clique and 2. Someone who actually loves him is already right there in front of him. Eric Stoltz's character is just like the Molly Ringwald character in Pretty in Pink.

Watts was so right on about Amanda Jones. She "used" him to get back at Hardy. Don't you notice that whenever she played a High School Student, she had so many issues. She also played Daniella "Dani" in Catholic Boys/Heaven Help Us that Yeardley Smith did before playing The Voice of Lisa Simpson. She ran the Neighborhood Candyshop in Brooklyn, NY and took care of her Father, who may have been an "Abuser". Her Co-Star Andrew McCarthy was part of The Brat Pack who after battling his addictions is now a Successful Director.

Watts is so right on. As for Amanda, Hardy has such a Ball & Chain on her, and he did what fellows have been doing since the beginning of time. Make them think that without them, they are nothing. A lot of First Wives of Famous Men found that out the hard Way. The First Women married to Will Smith, John Lennon, Onassis, Ted Danson, Sting, and countless other s can attest to that fact. I also remember watching School Daze where Jane Toussiant (From New Orleans, LA.) who was the leader of the Gamma Rays The Sister Sorority of Gamma Nu Pi which was the most powerful on Campus. She really thought she was "all that" because her Boyfriend Julian "Dig Big Brother Almighty" was the Big Man On Campus but when he dumped her, she almost lost it.
