It’s a stand up bass aka double bass. Finger picking instead of using a bow is the innovation of Jazz players back in the early 1900’s. The Police are one of my all-time favorite bands. So many great songs, both hits and deep cuts.

Carla Harrington. Puffy did not "steal" this. Sting was flattered that Puffy wanted to sample his song. In fact, Puffy was good about getting permission from the people whose songs he sampled. He sampled Stairway to Heaven in Come With Me and Jimmy Page was featured on it. Sting even performed his song WITH Puffy and Faith Evans at the grammies.

Record facts: --Despite Sting saying "Every Breath You Take" is about a stalker, people still use it as a WEDDING DANCE SONG! (WTF, IKR...?) --The 45rpm of "Every Breath You Take" had a CD-only track on its b-side called "Murder By Numbers". Unless it's on a deluxe reissue of the "Synchronicity" album, that's its only time on vinyl. --By surprise during Frank Zappa's final tour, Sting sang a jazz version of "Murder By Numbers" with Zappa's band. It was included as a CD-only track on Zappa's 1989 album "Broadway The Hard Way". Just like "Synchronicity", the vinyl version didn't have room for the song on it.

Written by Sting. Produced by The Police + Hugh Padghem. 1983. Sting: lead vocal, bass, synthesizers. Andy Summers: guitar, piano. Stewart Copeland: drums. The Police: backing vocals. Godley + Creme: direction of the video. Andy graduated from CSU Northridge in 1972. Stewart is the only American. 🇺🇲 Sting + Andy are British. 🇬🇧 The Police were in The Bahamas. Sting + Stewart Copeland were constantly arguing + laying temper tantrums. The infighting was so bad that Andy Summers left the house to look for help. Luckily, the late George Martin, producer of The Beatles, was nearby. Andy talked to George. His advice was relayed to Andy. Then, Andy returned. Sting + Stew stopped their bickering for the meantime. Meanwhile, Spandau Ballet was working on their album True on another side of the island! 😃 SB was on the rise! 🤯 1 year later, Sting met Spandau Ballet at the Band Aid recording session, London, UK. 🇬🇧 Yet, The Police was slowly breaking up. 😖😖😖 Sting + Stew could not even agree on how to play Every Breath You Take. 😖 This was a song on the final full studio album. Information c/o Andy Summers: I was at his book signing! 😃 Do not think of EBYT as only a stalker song: think of it as a break up of The Police + wishing the band was like it was on their 1st album. Sample. Puff Daddy sampled this. He made his rap into a tribute of Biggie Smalls. Guest singer is Faith Evans, widow of Biggie. RIP Biggie, Sir George Martin. Suggested next Police video: Synchronicity 2. 🎸🥁👨‍🎤🎸🎹 🇬🇧🇺🇲

Second, the song IS about stalking, so you both NAILED it. I always thought is was a love song until about 10 years ago. Ha! And third....never start a sentence with the word "and". No wait, that wasn't it...sorry. THIRD, (and this is the part where your going to think I'm bat sh** crazy) this is the second time while watching one of your reactions that orbs (little balls of light) have been flying around the room with you. In this video, check at the 1:10 mark. It happened at least two more times in this one, but I didn't get the times. The other video was Disturbed, "The Sound of Silence". Check at the 3:34 and 4:07 marks. Anyway, just thought I'd let ya know. Weird, but true. (No, I don't smoke, but maybe I should start). Be well and thanks for all the good vibes!

Some of the best time's and worst, loved that time. Now have a family but still Instill my outlaw way's. Check out the song Outlaw Ways

Puffy didn't ask to sample to the music to his song for Big. Therefore, The Police gets $2 K a day PLUS all royalties from that song! JUST A FYI:

Another true 'stalker' love/fun song that people mixed up constantly was "You Might Think I'm Crazy" by The Cars ;)

Cello? Chello? LOL.... That's a Stand Up or Upright Bass or as they called it before the electric version, a Bass (sometimes a Double Bass)

Aside from the stalker vibe, even more ironic is a group named, The Police, with a track called, "Every Breath You Take"!? The way the police are kneeling on necks today, and choking people out, etc. Creepy indeed.

That is the 3rd time (I think) I've seen what looks to be a small 'orb' flying around you two. Has anyone else commented on that or am I nuts? Orbs can be spirits... ghosts... or just dust. LOL who knows?

I was a young teen when this came out. It was treated as a romantic song, which I found perplexing. The tune is kinda romantic, kinda intense. But, the words are a different kind of intense. but, since I was young, I thought maybe I didn't understand. Who was I to differ from society? Then years & years later I heard that Sting wrote this as a "Stalking song" & he was very surprised that people interpreted as "romantic". I felt so vindicated!

It's a classic bass Checkout an orchestra once in a while.. Apparently you never took music class of any kind. You're totally in the wrong group with the horns Or wood wind section ;^)

You should learn about this band. Great band but they didn't get along. Actual fist fights on stage and during recordings etc even breaking out during interviews. Some might even be on KZbin.

Is the blind man you love to love how you guys doing you know that I am a song historian most people do not understand three importance of that song this was very Sinister and creepy Whitney has nothing to do with the love or over love between two people use your head in the rap of the song where he says oh can't you see that was paying homage to the United States of America daily goals hard to explain America's always watching with back then we were in the Cold War getting hot they were sending up satellites we were sending up satellites they were dealing with black technology projects we were dealing with black technology projects Deerwood testing nukes we were testing me this song was a true Omar's of the United States of America CIA and the Russian counterpart the KGB and everyone was five luck everyone yes right doubts with the president of either country went to the bathroom if they have the football pieces with them I want to see the football out. Talk to the NFL no. I'm talking about the other NFL the nuclear final launch codes so yeah this song was dedicated to that and yes we have spies everywhere we would have five actually we're hired with the maid and Butler to be the janitor call the Kremlin Edwards David Porter nobody eat Willy went to the bathroom and a whole lot of other stuff we did not need to know anything about so this is just a history on the song when it comes to sting and the police they actually have what is the hottest library's the music that you will ever want to listen to
