I had to replace the wife’s radiator in her G6 once and while in there decided we would go ahead and replace the leaking oil filter adapter gasket. The gasket from the Orielly store blocked an oil path. The original had a hole that lined up with it. Went to GM dealership and bought theirs and it was updated but same shape and the same hole. Sometimes aftermarket parts are identical and sometimes they figure will fit a similar sized outer surface means it’s good enough.

The other good reason to buy from the dealer is those pesky 1/2 year production vehicles. The dealer will know which part it needs based on the date of manufacture. Most parts stores, I've found, just guess. Thank you for sharing your experience & watching the channel. Keep wrenching 🔧

Something I learned in an A/C class once and a suggestion for ya. On your "O"-rings use silicone GREASE it wont cause the rubber to start breaking down, swell, damage plastics, will cook off with heat and makes an excellent lubrication for putting things together

Two thermostats: “It keeps the Cylinder heads at a colder temperature in order to control cam pinging and provide better MPG by keeping incoming air cooler (bigger compression). The secondary (hotter) thermostat keeps the main engine block hotter to help lubrication (hotter oil being slicker) and thus reducing friction/wear.”

I hate plastic engine parts with a passion. I've had to replace three thermostat housings on three different vehicles because of leaks. None of the vehicles had any cooling issues other than leaking housings. Garbage parts. Never had to replace a metal housing.

That mess of kinked hoses and tee fittings looks like a "boat mechanic" was working on the car... This is the kind of stuff you see on boats. (I put it in quotes because there are genuine mechanics who work on boats and they do good work. And then there are "boat mechanics.")

2 stats = better temp regulation. My 03 sentra has 1 on bottom side of block, and top side, where they typically are. Sounds counter intuitive, but it does make a difference as far as temp regulation goes. Not sure how 2 stats within 6" of eachother would prove beneficial though. Good show sir.

that hose work looks like a roadside quickey repair just to get home.i myself have done temp work just to get people home.but when it does work.they think a rig to get them home is permanent.even when you tell them up front, its NOT. its just to get the hell away from the cars going 70 mph 3 feet away.

I hate those type of hose clamps! Go O.E.M. (spring clamps) as they are designed to expand and contract with the hose.
@robertlacob8831
@robertlacob8831 Жыл бұрын
I can attest to that as when working in the dealer shops every time, I had to remove a factory spring clamp, I always tried to save it if possible, but living in CT was hard due to salt corrosion! I noticed that after changing any rubber hoses, when the vehicle would come back for an oil change or something, I had to retighten the worm gear clamps.

I was glad to see those spring clamps, in my experience the worm style clamps leak after a couple of years due to shrinking hoses. Keep the good stuff coming Kenny.

I always use distilled water in my cooling systems. Back in the 70's using tap water caused my 70 Mustang heater core to plug up with the calcium deposits that were in the tap water. But that water was very hard well water. Other community water supplies may not be so hard. I learned many things the hard way.....
@bobcombs7138

I always wonder how chlorine can affect the system. Seems some water supply is high on chlorine. I would think it is safer to go with distilled water. Well definitely on my own vehicle 😂

Brilliant video as usual Kenny I do a lot of work on my driveway/my parents driveway and it’s amazing how much you can do without a lift and fancy expensive tools this what you call worm clamps we call jubilee clips here in the uk don’t ask me why lol but I have always had good success with them just easier and quicker I suppose gonna be be replacing the turbo cartridge on my Nissan qashqai soon and will be putting all new worm clamps on that’s after I have replaced my brake callipers and hoses and cv joints would love to see if you have an easy way of removing cv joints from the drive shafts keep the videos coming always learning something new from them take care and stay safe

Plastic Fantastic (sarcasm) Those components should have been made in metal... But, "planned obsolescence" Some dorman aftermarket parts actually cast them in metal, not plastic so that's one plus when looking for a replacement

You might have mentioned this previously but how often do you come across the wrong coolant or mixed coolants in engines?
@2muchy2
@2muchy2 Жыл бұрын
I think the cylinder head thermostat is to get the cylinder head up to temperature faster. The other thermostat let coolant flow to the radiator.

I can not understand why some people use the incorrect size worm drive clamp they are not expensive. The only reason they were used on that vehicle is if it had the failure at their residence & had no way to go get some from a store (parts or garden). Cheers mate.

Which Nissan are you referring to? I have done that job on a Frontier & they are a beast to change.
@1armijo
@1armijo 5 ай бұрын
@@WrenchingWithKenny The 3.3L engine found on the Frontier and Exterra. I can see that Toyota does a better job of engineering in most cases. It seems that Nissan makes things harder than they have to be? I may have to change all the coolant hoses soon so I like to know the least painful method or should I farm it out? I am a novice mechanic on weekends. Thank you
@WrenchingWithKenny
@WrenchingWithKenny 5 ай бұрын
Here's the thing. I have done this job before & it can be kind of a nightmare. The biggest problem will be the hoses that go to the heater core. Both times I did them, the hose tube of the heater core fell apart. So you end up with an even bigger job than you originally planned for. Plus! If you don't get it right, you will have disabled your vehicle & need a tow. Many mechanics are not thrilled with the idea of fixing someone else's work. If you're questioning your ability you should probably farm it out. If I get one in I will definitely do a video, though. Thanks for watching & keep wrenching 🔧

Using clamps that are too big is a real bad idea. If they're too big they get out of round before they'll tighten up and will leak no matter how tight they are. From the looks of those clamps, I'd bet this thing leaked in multiple areas. Guaranteed some green horn rookie had worked on this thing.
