fun fact: the original costume designer for mean girls (the movie) said that she wanted regina to be a bunny because they represent both trickery and innocence. this is a metaphor for regina's manipulative nature by using a false sense of naivety and kindness. regina in both the movie and the musical trick aaron into going out with her instead of kady. the only difference is that in the movie she tells aaron a bunch of lies about her while framing herself as the sweet supportive friend. in this she's making aaron feel bad for breaking up with her. they decided not to change it because it goes with this situation too. the other girls go dressed up as cute animals too as a representation of how they follow behind what regina does. kady goes as a dead bride because she really likes aaron but gets her heartbroken at the end of the night (hence being a dead bride). this was long as heck but I hope you liked it i guess

She appears to be using her emotional state as a tool for manipulation. Which is kind of the point of the introspective part of this song, I suppose. She has intense insecurity that forces her to seek dominance. So when she is confronted with that insecurity, she feels the need to 'be in control' by turning it into a tool. She wants to be her mask- she wants those emotions to be fake tools she uses to exploit others, rather than the raw and seething mass of desperation they really are.
