Story 3 makes me sad for the younger girl, because when a teenager has this type of behaviour, it SCREAMS that they feel neglected but don't have the maturity to express it in other ways. I might be out on a limb here but it sounds like maybe so much revolves around her older sister's singing and performing career that the parents don't have time for the younger one. If she's opened for shows, went to a performing arts school and took singing lessons (I'm guessing that means shows then), and being asked to sing just at family moments, it might be that her passion takes up a lot of family time, and there isn't much left to focus on what the younger is good at. It;s not about one girl being good at singing and the other wanting to be good at singing, it's one daughter wanting to be praised and seen and probably thinks singing is the only way she can be seen because all her life, that's what the entire family has been focused on

It's actually quite difficult to really know because we really never get all of the information. I originally agreed with Op but then I thought, what if they're neglecting the singing sibling? If you grow up with a sibling that is incredibly attention-seeking, it makes more sense.

It sounds like the girl is obnoxious and doesn’t wanna try. Because she’s too busy obsessed with what her sister is doing. If she can’t sing she can’t sing. She keeps quitting voice lessons because she doesn’t wanna be criticized? If she was that “passionate” about it then she would want to try. I was passionate about singing, I got better with criticism
@River-wc5bx2 ай бұрын
@InspiringZebras Okay, I'll bite. I was this kid. My older sister was AND STILL IS perfect. She graduated every form of education with perfect grades and even has a number of trophies and now works an amazing career due to her hard work and dedication. As a child my teachers were her old teachers. They asked non-stop about her, always compared me to her, and saw me as an extension of my sister. It made me grow resented and honestly made me very sensitive to criticism. I stopped trying too, because whenever I did it wouldn't matter, because my sister did it better. It took a very long time to let go of that resentment and insecurity holding me back. I have my own talents and ambitions and goals that I follow and have gotten much better. After finding closure within MYSELF. Because your parents never do, I should know, my mother is like OP. I am not an adult and have finally become confident within myself. To be compared to or compare yourself to someone that everyone considers as perfect is extremes harmful. OP clearly doesn't like her own daughter. That is so obvious. OP's daughter needs therapy and OP needs a reality check to how truly harmful and cruel her behavior towards her own DAUGHTER is. Even if that reality check is from her own "golden daughter".

Exactly. I’m glad this worked out for the two of them, but he’s already established he doesn’t respect her by his rejection of her boundary. She ended up falling in line with his humor at the end but what happens when he goes to far and she’s not willing to laugh along for real? If your partner just laughs in your face when you’re genuinely embarrassed and upset, and they laugh more when you communicate how you don’t like it… 🫤 Also she just had his baby? He should be kissing the ground she walks on, not pranking her while she changes their baby’s diaper.

By 16 it's pretty rude and disrespectful, especially considering OP said Ava will listen to her dad if he tells her to stop. Not to mention Ava's putting Scarlett down as she does it, saying she's more talented than her without putting in any work. I honestly expected Ava to be 8, not 16.

I feel that I have a slightly different opinion on the singing sister story. As someone who was heavily involved in the arts when I was in school, it is a skill that needs to be practiced and critiqued. From the sounds of the story the sister can not handle actual constructive criticism that she was getting from voice and music teachers (the mom said she checked the notes/critiques and they were run of the mill critiques) I’m sure her older sister got the same critiques when starting out and had to learn and practice. It seems to me that the younger sister wants all the glory and attention without putting in the work. The mom was even complimentary of her soccer ability and s suggested she play on the school team, she refused. At some point if someone refuses to accept criticism and put in the work towards what they want then you have to be blunt. I understand that she is a child, but she is also 16, I feel that is more than old enough to start taking some personal responsibility for your extracurricular activities. In two years if she wants to go she will be at college where she will be responsible for selecting classes and getting there on time. Could the mom have been nicer about it? Sure, yes, but I really doubt that this was the first attempt to guide her and get her to stop singing at the table. Sorry, but the sister is old enough to know better and if she didn’t know then she is old enough to learn that’s it is inappropriate to sing as the table when all the other people there tell her that it is and ask her to stop. She is making a choice to not stop.
@JoyceTheTuffPuff7 ай бұрын
Sure she's being a shitty teenager, but at that age she's learning to push the envelope and will eventually learn that it's wrong to be doing these things. However, the stepmom has endless praise for one daughter while having nothing but criticism for the other. No wonder being criticized (even constructive criticism) makes her want to quit. She gets so much of it at home that it feels pointless to keep going with something. And her quitting after two weeks of trying something out could be because she sees all the praise her sister gets and compares it to the little to no compliments she gets for doing well in something. In the instance of the one comment where she said she was good at soccer: she said it in the comment and it's very possible she never gave her a compliment about it to her face. I wouldn't find it hard to believe that she feels neglected because her sister has all this focus on her. With lessons, a performing arts school, paid performances, etc a lot of the parents time, attention, and money must be going towards her which means there's little left for the other girl. OP says it herself in the comments that she has a good relationship with Scarlett and a bad relationship with Ava. She just doesn't like her and it's damaging.

Amanda books hotel room and spa day to clear her mind while he's just suffering from sepsis in the hospital alone, and says this situation is stressing her out. OP says her brother is worried Amanda is losing interest in him now. In my opinion, she's losing interest because he doesn't have a girlfriend for her to stand between anymore 🙄🥺

I'm not saying the way OP in story 3 handled it was appropriate, but DOES Scarlet sing everywhere? It doesn't indicate anywhere that Scarlet has been singing at the table or singing the wrong thing in the car over top of the radio. I would be so overstimulated if I couldn't even eat without someone belting in my ear no matter how good they are at singing. I don't think making it about how she's "bad at it" was at all appropriate and was honestly uncalled for and really mean, but there has to be some way to express a boundary to not sing loudly at the table?

Michaela OMG I feel seen! No one else I've ever met calls a "raspberry" as in "blowing raspberries" anything else. I grew up calling them "zerbles" and hearing Michaela call it a zerbert just brought me so much unnecessary joy! Anyone else in my life has looked at me like a nut job for not calling it a raspberry! 😅 Thank you. That is all. Carry on you're doing a great job. Love the show ❤️

3 story: tell me no one has inflicted unwanted singing on you, without telling me. 1)My mother is a professional singer, and sings all the time. I got so fed up with it i moved out at 17. 2) There are rules for how a person has to behave at the table singing is not one. 3)Step mom lives with them, it is her you gave to respect the rules.

Last atory: The boyfriend literally just had to say "I'll talk to him about it" and he wouldn't have gotten dumped. And from what is said, OP doesn't even know if he DID talk to his dad about it. That's not wanting both sides, that's disbelieving your partner.

I think it’s the dad’s place to set the record straight for his youngest. It’s clear he’s enabling her behavior. I know you love your kid, but you’re clearly not parenting in a way that allows here to excel at singing or finding something else to be good at.

Regarding the nude wedding- the absolute LACK of self awareness from bride and groom is so frustrating. Like cmon people, not everyone lives like you and that’s asking A LOT to force your guests into a lifestyle they don’t subscribe to. It also comes down to consent. You can’t force/guilt your guests to consent to something they don’t want to do- that’s not consent anymore

Sorry dude, but pantsing anyone, let alone your wife, when they're in a vulnerable state and can't defend themselves is bullying and boarding on abuse. It's never funny and it's especially disgusting when its a new mother caring for your baby.

I really just think he meant it as a joke. Did the joke land? No but I don't think it was meant to be bullying or abusive. I think it is good that she found the humor in it to turn it around and do it to him. Lol not everything equates to abuse. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

@butterflybeats74624 ай бұрын
Fr, either way if he's actually suffering from something or is just a genuine creep (or both) the boyfriend is 100% horrible, no matter what the reason behind it, that was never okay his dad said that & i would also argue it was premeditated as he found a way to get her alone while his son would be gone all day at work

Story 7: I’ve always been told to be extremely cautious of grieving widows as men in that position would often turn to other women for physical comfort, whether the women fully consented or not. Because the thought of being alone, incapable, and uncared for terrifies them. I really hope that it is not a common thing, but my entire extended family told stories about that. When a friend passed away a little while back I tried to be one of the members of our community supporting her widowed husband but I couldn’t handle the amount of push-back and negativity from my family. Stating that ‘he will take it the wrong way’ ‘only meet him in a public place’ ‘do not ever be alone with him in a room’, ‘text us when you arrive and when you leave’ ‘your father will drive you there and back’ ‘better not to talk to him or text him’ ‘do not approach him when you see him in the street’ but each safety measure I took was never enough to ease their fears. Funny thing was that this guy wasn’t ever inappropriate with me but I ended up ghosting him anyway because I couldn’t deal with the drama. I’ll regret how I handled the situation for the rest of my life. I’ve taken self defence classes my entire life, trained in mental health support and suicide prevention. But I have heard too many stories about how unhinged a person can be in their grief.

Story 5 with the wedding situation sounds like it's connected to a post that Smoth Pit read on their recent reddit video "Nightmare Vacation Stories"!! Their 5th story was about a girlfriend getting uninvited from a vacation due to the boyfriend's girl best friend not wanting to third wheel and has been stringing him along!!

For the first story, the husband invalidating how she felt and needing the internet to agree with her to stop is questionable. While I don’t think he meant anything malicious by the prank, she obviously didn’t like it. She expressed that, and that should be the end of it.

So when my husband and I got married, we had two close friends whom we wanted to invite - the catch was, they'd just broken up after like a 5 year relationship. We promised to seat them at different tables, and made sure they would be okay being in the same room, etc. What we didn't anticipate was the absolute fit that the woman in the situation would throw when we said that, no, she couldn't bring her new boyfriend. (She'd left him, he was heartbroken and not dating anyone new, and it would be crushing to him). They'd only been dating for 3 weeks when she asked, which was 2 weeks before the wedding. Be careful with your +1s - so glad we didn't have to retract it!

I don't agree that a plus one cannot be vetoed. If someone wanted to bring someone you don't like for any reason, especially to a wedding, you have that right. With all these crazy stories, I can see a wedding guest trying to bring someone who bullied, harassed, or abused the to-be-married person. But since it was an open plus one you have to "suck it up"? No. No no. Morgan brought up a "block/black list", but what, you're supposed to send that list of people you don't mess with attached to your wedding invitation??? Obviously no

01:05:18 Other listeners have sussed this out in the comments already but Story 5 sounds shockingly similar to a post Shane over at Smoshpit read titled, *"My (28F) boyfriend (29M) and his best friend (29F) are going on a week-long vacation. They uninvited me."* This story is basically the exact same situation as story 5 where the boyfriend, OP, boyfriends girl best friend, and another guy friend were going on a trip, but when the guy friend backed out, girl best friend said she was "uncomfortable" around OP so they ended up going alone without OP. Now at first I was really starting to question wether these were the same people but I can confidently say they are not because they were posted 5 years apart and the ages stay the same. Which is insane bc why is this a common phenomenon with late 20something guys???
