World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen tops the field for the Airthings Masters, the 2nd stage of the Champions Chess Tour. The 12-player event will be played online on chess24 from December 26th to January 3rd and, as the first Major of the tour, features a $200,000 prize fund with $60,000 for 1st place. The winner also qualifies directly to the Grand Final in September 2021.
The tournament starts with a 3-day preliminary stage where the players play each other once before the top 8 go forward to a knockout. The time control is 15 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: championschesstour.com

I used to attack because it was the only thing I knew. Now I attack because I know it works best.

Idk if I should be happy or sad. The way these guys play it's so prepared it's just not human anymore. The opening is just who have better memorization and who has the better prep

Preparation and memorization has been integral in high level chess for a long time though, it's just we have *better* preparation due to chess engines is all.

Nowadays, engines have evolved so much that I simply can't appreciate chess anymore in the way I used to. Yes Dubov is exceptional but can he take the credit for this exceptional attack? Sure he may be able to appreciate the importance of some moves once the engines suggest him certain moves but that's not the same with having that intuitive playstyle. In the end, the player with the best engine and the best memory wins. Sure, you could say that after a certain point it's impossible to memorize everything but can such a player take the full credit once the so called autopilot is turned off by the middle or endgame?

Dubov plays beautifully. I don’t care if he doesn’t win.
