@@dopeybrew7006 Pretty much everything you said is the opposite of the truth. Rapes and sexual assault consistently go down in countries when porn is legalized. I also have no idea where you're getting that most of them were assaulted as children, or use P or drugs to escape. You seem to have a complete myth circulating in your head about this topic. I'd advise you get more educated and stop spreading misinformation. Also, please realize that the vast majority of people watch P, yet the vast majority of people are not rapists. As an old man, I wonder if you may simply be young and experiencing the addiction of attraction to women, as addiction to porn. The majority of men were in essence born addicted to sexual desire for women. This is natural, it is part of what it is to be a human male heterosexual. It gets real strong in your teens and early twenties, and was probably the primary motivation behind damn near everything I did in a social sense as a teen. Someday I really hope that people make a return to their roots and realize that the feeling of intimacy and satisfaction they achieve through porn cannot even come close to matching that of a committed relationship between two people who make a daily choice to romantically focus solely on each other. Thanks for dealing with the topic Russell. My take: porn is a moral evil, in part because of its relationship with sex trafficking. If every porn user would only do their research into what that industry has enabled, I think there would be a few more quitters.

Until we advance our perspective on relationships I don't see the quick fix of porn going anywhere. Humans are not monogamous. Marriages should be contractually renewed yearly and should allow three, four or more people to enter into contract. See you have to ask yourselves the key question - why is porn so popular?

@@Weird-City With respect, your comment makes it sound a bit like humans don’t have a free will of their own. Yes, for many people it’s difficult to be monogamous-for some it’s not as much. But I don’t think there’s quite an argument there that our species is simply “not monotonous.” The reason why is that something sets us apart from apes, dogs, cats, etc-the ability to choose what kind of life we want to live and the ability to *master our own basic impulses.* Making peace with these impulses is one of the things Russell deals most with on this channel, and it’s the reason why, thank goodness, humans can be what and who they want to be, whether it be monogamous or not.

Just to say when I've been addicted to porn or struggling with it. I've always found it extremely hard to find love or meaningful connections. Most my relationships/romantic encounters, like kissing someone or dating have always mostly happened when I've avoided porn and masterbation for a while 1 month to 2 months. I feel like people subconsciously pick up on more then we think. I feel like if I watched loads of porn a girl would pick up on my lack of hormones and lack of confidence, where as if I'm of that stuff everything feels easier, it's almost like there's an invisible energy that girls or guys can pick up on/tap into and the more you have the more meaningful interactions are/can be, just a little example I avoided porn for 2 months and masterbation, and usually I wouldn't have the confidence to go up to a girl and ask for her number. But after doing that and resetting, I was on the bus one afternoon loads of people on there to, and this girl was sitting a seat away from me she was beautiful alluring and looked really sweet, so I just made eye contact with her and when she did the same back, I just said we always seem to catch the same bus and I always find myself looking at you tbh. You have a such a gorgeous smile and I'd love to take you out sometime 🧡 then she got her phone out to give me her number :o we got the digits 😁 but what I'm staying is that process felt alot easier, while off porn 🧡

Over a period of decades I have come to realize that one of the foundations of my addiction to porn was a fear of actual relationships. It is hard to convey to the average person how deep and all encompassing this fear is - they have not experienced it. Given the deep level of fear and then the shame that goes with porn use it was extremely difficult to even begin to realize what was going on. Like other kinds of fear I did not want to look at it. Fear is repulsive and not attractive in any way. Shame is deeply disabling of what ever small amount of courage that might be there. Society doesn't do a very good job of looking at these issues or dealing with them so there was no support or incentive to do it on my own except when it got so bad that I could no longer ignore it's destructive effects. Thank you Russel for your openness and willingness to shed light into this dark place.

@mygirldarby2 жыл бұрын
You make a good point about fear and how repulsive it is. I think fear of women is the energy powering "incels." They are afraid of women, afraid to approach them, ask them out, do or say the wrong thing and it gets worse as time goes on. They become terrified of women but they repress that and use anger to cover up their insecurities. So now they're coming off as very angry and hard to approach or be around, which makes it nearly impossible for them to get a date. It's a vicious circle. Anger is a secondary emotion. It is used to cover over primary fear or sadness.
@mygirldarby2 жыл бұрын
@@electrolettuce5624 That's crazy, bro. If you were even remotely right and women are commonly falsely accusing men of those things then most men would have been accused of this crime many times. And we know that is not true. I've never even met one man who has been accused of that! So your theory is just wacko. I've also never met a woman who has accused a man of that. If it were so common that men are running around terrified of false charges, I would know at least a few, lol. No, you aren't thinking right. I think you're an incel and you should see a therapist to help you. Someone in my family was this way and he thought crazy things about women. He went to therapy and fixed all the mental health issues and false beliefs he had. Two years later he got married! He could never even get dates before and now he's happily married. Best of luck to you. We all want to love and be loved and women aren't going around making random false accusations. That would be extremely traumatic thing to do for a woman and so it doesn't happen hardly at all. You're not thinking logically if you think women would go to the police and make up elaborate lies about some guy they dated...and do it over and over. It would be ridiculous. Did your mom do that? Russell, you hit the nail on the head. The mere fact that your mention of words like connection, intimacy, and authenticity, brought me to tears, served as a painful reminder of what it's missing in my life. I think it's interesting that porn hub use is up so high, but I would add so is Amazon, and there may be a link there as well, in the way people shop to fill an inner need. I live a fairly isolated life, in Colorado. Gone are the days of striking up conversation with strangers (how I have always made new friends). Its sad. During the pandemic, I found myself buying guitars and gear, from Amazon, Ebay, Reverb, etc, that are above my skill level. But man, seeing the UPS truck show up on my property, excited me. A moment's connection w a stranger, a chance to say, "hello" and "thank you" is a strangely satisfying thing, equal to the thrill of opening a bunch of packages. I have too much time alone w my smart phone. In the last year I bought 9 guitars (6 electric, 3 acoustic), guitar stands, guitar straps, capo's, 2 amps, effects pedals, etc, and I'm still empty. The high, same as porn and masturbatory activities, is illusory. One thing I know, I'd rather be with a human, than a room full of guitars. Thanks for the truth therapy

The irony and beauty of being alone, temporarily dropping out to pursue contemplation and stillness is that you realise you can never be alone, theres always something, be it nature, or people, and that actually it is only in contrast with the other that you can even know or define yourself at all. There isnt any alone because there isn't really any individuals existing in isolation from the environment. Behind all veils, there is nothing but love and connectedness, this love, however, is sparse to almost everybody in our society because this society uses and popularises the "needy" and "individual" love... for profit. This society is not sustainable and there will be a conclusion to all the suffering it is causing, that's for dam sure.

"Nothing inherently wrong with porn"? Well, I disagree. First of all it´s easily available for kids and young people and likely do damage to their later sexual life in some ways. Secondly I believe a lot of abuse is taking place in the production of porn.
@Animal_lives_matter3 жыл бұрын
So if P is easily available and harmful, then P is inherently wrong. Ok but lots of banal things satisfy this definition, and it doesn't factor in the concept of free will and responsibility for our actions. Heck, even sunlight is easily available and harmful, but I have free will and am responsible for not getting sunburn or skin cancer. I don't turn around and start blaming the sun. What I am trying to say is: take responsibility for your actions and stop trying to place the blame on other things for your own deficiencies. Yes, porn is dangerous, but life is dangerous so you better get used to dealing with danger.

Porn is as old the human mind. It is not going to go away,. What is a problem is the industry which creates it and the way in which it may mold some young minds, thus deviating from the opportunity to form authentic sexual and romantic relationships. The lives of performers are in some cases negatively documented, but, as to whether their experiences are representative its hard to say for sure. The rise of consensual amateur porn refutes such concerns however. For informed, mature users of porn, who are not addicted, it serves a banal and necessary function.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on pornography, Russell Brand. I know it can sometimes be hard for people to speak about because of the massive shame associated with it. I'm glad that you are a man speaking about it, because I don't feel that I see enough men willing to do so in an intellectual, self-reflective way. It feels like we live in such a pornography saturated environment, that it is impossible to escape its insidious effects. One example, it is especially difficult for women to live and work in this society, when they are constantly being undressed and objectified in another persons pornography-tarnished mind. But, if we can make a collective effort to overcome such a detrimental habit in each of our own minds, society could be so much better, especially for the children that are destroyed by its consequences. All the best!

I've done alot of running over the last few months which has massively helped me to keep going, but its not the same. Tennis clubs have been closed despite tennis being one of the safest activites imaginable in a time like this. You can't replace the thrill of competion sport brings or the sense of community/ mutual respect that comes with it. Having said that, I do believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the best thing we can do is to focus on each day as it comes and try not to get too bogged down in everything thats happening as it is all too easy to become overwhelmed.

You're bang on with that observation, I couldn't have put it better myself. The trouble is that most people are completely under the spell of the mass media that prolongs this fear and hysteria. Quite simply the majority are obeying whatever the Gov tell them without any critical thought involved. If one talks out and asks questions you're labelled an anti-vaxer and ‘conspiracy theorist’ which is a very dim witted thing to say said in order to shut anyone down. On the contrary, it means you have a functioning brain and still think - something that is considered dangerous by our Govs. They want dumbed down automatons willing to do anything they say. It works... look at the terrified masses in your local supermarket or even on the street wearing their muzzle and afraid of the person next to them. It's insane and has to stop. You'd appreciate Brendan O'Neill interviewed on talkRadio (YT channel) with Julia Hartley Brewer the other day, the man talks absolute sense about returning to a life worth living. Being addicted to pornography is something I have never confided in anyone. I know it stems from years of abuse and childhood trauma that I somehow made an association with porn and an intense dopamine release. Constantly increasing the feel good feelings with smoking Marijuana and watching porn to elevate the experience. As someone with an addictive personality, I find porn does for me what any other mind altering substance does. It gives me a dopamine hit. As we grow up we see everything we see people eating drinking sleeping we see fighting we see people being born people dieing people killing each other we see people do everything except the one act that actually makes people SEX! Ultimately, all addictions limit our potential, for various positive opportunities. Weather its ruining our health, physical or emotional, relationships, or finances. Some addictions seem benign, but you have to wonder what opportunity for emotional growth is being lost through the use of an unconscious, addictive behavior. The most disturbing thing about porn addiction seems to be the way it numbs us to real and normal kinds of sexual activity and stimulation. It seems to encourage more and more extreme kinds of interests, in order to achieve the same levels of arousal. I guess this is the nature of addiction, it alters our brain chemistry, down regulating dopamine receptors so we need more and more of the substance or activity to get the effect. I was in a relationship with a porn addict once, it was miserable.

@@Mary-dk7mc Loss of interest in human partner. Needing more and more extreme activities to achieve stimulation. Inability to respond and relate in normal sexual ways. Demands for activities partner may not be comfortable with. Loss of intimacy and respect as partner is viewed as an object. Brain chemistry and functioning is changed in unnatural ways because of the unnatural experiences available through porn, this re-wires the brain to then need these unnatural forms of stimulation, causes dopamine imbalances. All addictions make people narcissistic, as they focus on themselves and satisfying their needs rather than taking care of others.

Cutting porn out of my life was a great step in my spiritual development and in learning how to have a healthy and physically intimate relationship with porn out of the equation.
