Gar Alperovitz brings a bit of optimism to the table and points out that decentralized, community-based efforts and worker-owned collectives are gathering momentum and making a real, measurable impact on the economy. Gar suggests that a systemic crisis is on the horizon and that capitalism may be coming to end.

In the 1800s all European countries were Capitalist. This led to strikes, worker revolts, riots and in some cases, revolution. People began to demand Socialism but the European governments knew that would end terribly, so they gave them something else called Social Democracy, free healthcare and education, workers rights, adequate housing, a better standard of living. Support for Socialism never grew again and was only ever implemented by force in the USSR and Eastern Europe. Now America is in the exact same situation as Europe in the 1800s, if the US Government doesn't act America will fall to a socialist revolution, which will bring the destruction of America.

American society has become so unbalanced and unequal; we will be forced to change our system to one far more balanced and fair if our country is to survive. Otherwise, America will slide into extreme inflation, total economic collapse, which will be a violent and horrific event. It's our choice as a nation, peaceful reform.or violent revolution.
@evilparadigm
@evilparadigm 3 жыл бұрын
Violent revolution it is. In al seriousness, if I'm going to participate in anything like that, I want to everything I can to not contribute to unnecessary suffering. If the time comes, I hope people if all backgrounds can unite against the actual oppressors instead of hiding behind selfish desires and dogmatic paradigms. I'm mostly worried about how the military will split into loyalist and patriots. By patriots I mean soldiers who fight to protect citizens and not the elite thieves.

@@grimeytavern1648 t Look up the 2040 Chinese dream. Continued social unrest and wealth/social inequality are bound to have the US inna tough spot. That combined with the rising cost of living and the laws that are slow to catch up. Social decline could be a problem for us.

All companies should be owned by their workers. If you don't work there you can't own any part of it. No company should employ more than 5000 workers to insure competition and insure other can have the opportunity to have a similar business.

Some say they want to see this as a growing trend; as more than just a few start-ups. It's not a growing trend... it's a fact of life. And it's the only way that the masses can both survive and fight back. Gone -- at last! -- are the old tycoons and corporate CEOs who had one good idea and conned everyone into doing 99% of the work, while they get 99% of the profit. The key is to remember what their greed has cost us and not repeat the mistake. Because their greed is and was a mistake. One that cost each of us in ways we can hardly fathom. Look around yourself. How much worse do things have to get before you see that it all leads back to corporate greed... even public and government problems like the road infrastructure and schooling crisis of today -- all things that are threatening to turn the USA into a third world nation. Assuming this is more than a trend, it can be a new way of life. I can see it happening. IF enough start-ups say, "no" when the corporate demon comes to buy them out, it could work. Because the key is... once there are enough companies that are owned and run by all employees eventually even the big corporations will have adopt the same type of system or risk dying out.

It's good that those companies have started up in Ohio. But they're just two examples. I'll have to see the film in order to judge if he makes a good case that it's an actual growing trend or if those are just two exceptions out of a wider wilderness.

It has been happening all over the world. Check out the Mondragon Corporation in Spain for the best example, thriving for many years. You can look them up on the internet. Economist Emeritus Richard Wolff has been discussing this new type of corporate structure for quite some time. It is the only way to remedy the problems we are seeing, with ridiculous CEO salaries in companies whose lowest-paid employees go to bed hungry.

yeah this is Mutualism the idea that workers should own the companies they work for, a great philosopher to look at for this version of anarcho socialism is Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, he said somthing wonderful which was that property was robbery by which he meant land and business which he saw as somthing that should be collectively owned by the community, which may be a sensible way forward for society

Where does the money come from to start these co-op enterprises? Do people have to pay their membership dues with sweat equity? They certainly have nothing else to contribute, if they are employed and their properties are in foreclosure.

Kind of depends on who is controlling the means of production and resources. If it's the people, as opposed to the Capitalists, it comes much closer to socialism on the spectrum than laissez-faire. Later we will see where it goes, such as when one of these co-ops goes under, whether another can successfully absorb the newly unemployed worker-owners of the defunct co-op or whether they will be left twisting in the wind. Will co-ops pay into the unemployment system run by the government? Will they function in cooperation with other co-ops to lessen the blow when one of them goes defunct?

"libertarianism" as it is defined in this country(in most of the world, "libertarianism" is a form of anarchism or voluntary socialism)isn't revolutionary at all, and can only create a neofeudal society based on rule by the strong and aggressive. Some of us don't want to see the Koch Brothers as liege lords.
