ROFL I laughed so hard at the explaining PVP to a player who's been gone awhile. I remember when I first started raiding and people were getting DM buffs like 6 hours before raid. I was like "why are we doing this so early." And the response was well people logout until raid. I was then thinking to myself "Well then I can't play until raid." It was a terrifying realization of what was to come.
@MidWitPride3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad i am a healer, and not dps. No one cares about the healer parses anyway, as 95% of the time your ranking in those is not because of anything you did, but because of your raid comp/your spec/specific boss fight/how much everyone else screws up. Because of that there's really no pressure on you to get any world buffs beyond the head buff, which is super easy to get by just logging in and logging out at your capital some minutes before the raid. Consumables are cheap too, as you don't really need anything other than the weapon oil and some superior manapots.
@Sofie4243 жыл бұрын
Well, generally people do buffs that early because they aren't planning to play until the raid. Or they have alts to play meanwhile.
@Iandrasill3 жыл бұрын
I mean if you're doing that shit you should have alts ready to play while having your char raidlogged, otherwise don't bother with DMT, ZG and ony are the 2 bigger wbuffs in terms of stats they add in total dmg % and you can just grab those right before raid hour, I spend about 10 to 20 minutes logged out before the raid starts unless I want to tryhard with a full set of wbuffs (only really do that once a month with DMF)

@MidWitPride3 жыл бұрын
@Duck Sauce Yea, a lot of things "help healers a lot" but when the raids get chewed through without any dangers of wipes in record times, there's no point in minmaxing. Especially as a healer going for high parses isn't the same as doing that as a dps player. Maybe i'll get all the world buffs and use all the consumables for our first few Nax raids, but that's about it. As of now 99% of our deaths are just people getting bored and doing something stupid, and not because we can't push the numbers.

Yeah you got me with all your elixiers potions engineering trinkets pvp specc and pvp gear. congratulations. now go away. - groups ganging up on solo travelers or larger kill teams hunting down smaller groups .. as before - it's just pointless and annoying. That does not even touch the dispelling and the actively malicious attempt to waste hours of time invested for other players. I would agree with you if it were like it was back when, sure you had most of these things happening too, but there was much more free form fighting. Actual fighting. Not just "I am so over prepared that you can't do anything unless you did the same, but you obviously didn't so I am the best :D " which seems to be almost exclusively what is happening today. I've had my fun with WPvP in phase 1, when WPvP was actually fun. The PvP server experience has been downhill ever since. Raid logging for Classic is so prevalent at this stage that most people don't really have the time or energy to deal with dispellers/gankers every single week when they are just here to do PvE content. Sappering enemy raids in BRM gets really old after 12 months of doing it every week. The reason a lot of raid loggers still stay on PvP servers are: not wanting to pay for a transfer; having too many profession/bank alts to move; not all of their guild/friend circle are willing to transfer. It's already enough of a logistics headache to get 40 people show up to raids every week, much less organizing a full migration to a different server. Most transfer guilds seem to always lose at least 1/4th of their raid team after the migration is done. Then adds to the burden of recruiting when player attrition is already an issue.

Classic world pvp is only fun if you're one of 4 classes, those being Rogue, Mage, Warlock and Shadow Priest. "Faction vs. Faction" world pvp is only "fun" if you're a ranged as melee can't do anything. I don't get it either, but people one-shotting lowbies is really just the beginning. It's insane the lengths some people will go to just to grief people. The first couple minutes described my experiences exactly! Played originally in pve, then when classic came around i gave in and thought i'd try the 'full experience' of pvp servers. Was really fun dodging enemy players, it added permanent danger to the world and the moments where you give someome a wave rather than gank them can feel really nice. Sadly i was enjoying the levelling process and taking it slow, when phase 2 dropped... while i was questing in STV. I got ganked by duos and trios repeatedly in fights that were physically impossible for me to win, and all it did was make every quest a chore. That pvp character of mine is still sitting in STV till this day, and i have a 60 version of the character happily in a pve server. I'm glad i tried it, but i think pvp servers only really work if you have the time spare to lose. For me, my gaming time can be quite limited on some weeks and so spending half of that time praying i dont randomly get killed by gankers or corpse running and waiting to res really wasnt worth it. No doubt it looks super fun having those big pre-raid showdowns, but i feel the benefits (i.e. being able to get more done per session & server faction balance) are just too strong for pve realms for me to ever look back.

I have to completely agree here. For me, world pvp is a zero-sum game. I understand for many this is "just a game bro", however perhaps as a softie as I am, I feel slightly disturbed even when I am the one to kill someone. And the desire to gank somebody who has ganked me for "vengeance" or "justice" quickly resides when I know it simply is a negative feedback loop. My only reason for playing at wpvp servers is because they had been more popular in the eyes of the community and I had traveled to servers with bigger communities to interact with more people and do more cooperative content with them. I quite respect pvp players such as Arena Masters (Reckful R.I.P) but a fully decked pvp player ganking/griefing random people in Azeroth is not much different to me than an MMA fighter beating the shit out of random people on the streets. I know many say "well you should not have signed up for a pvp server then" but I think that argument heavily underestimates why so many people like myself did in the first place.

@saurlex13683 жыл бұрын
Obviously it's all subjective, but I feel like PvP is a large component of WoW, it is a huge amount of content. The danger from others while leveling, questing, farming, etc. is what makes the world feel lived in and gives you a sense of danger. Without other players there is no danger in the world, there is never a reason to pan your camera around before doing something, there is also less competition for resources it seems, you just have to hit the node first you can't be cc'd off it. You are just a PvE god in a low difficulty world. Lack of world PvP is the main reason i can't get into other MMO's.

I've been feeling the same way for a long while as well. I shudder to think about what the PvP scene will be like in TBC. Those who don't think it will be bad, let me tell you something: WiLLE is right about one major thing in this video. Current world PvP has no other point except griefing and trolling. That IS the current meta. And it will only get worst. The possible ways this will carry on in TBC are many: Players hovering on flying mounts encircling Shatrath and around Netherstorm, forcefully dismounting others as they attempt to get by. Players constantly killing the NPC that sells flying mounts so the opposite faction can never buy one. Hundreds of players blocking the very narrow entrances leading to Kara so you die a few dozen times attempting to get in. Not to mention the fact that all of our servers are already massively over-populated leading to an insane amount of players fighting over nodes in the Outlands. It will be.... Hell.

What are you even on about , you do realise you can just fly straight up and not get forced dismount right. Flying mounts don't have collision boxes so this "encircling shattrath" and stopping people getting by is a moot points.

I started back in TBC on a PvP server which at the time was around 2:1 Horde: Alliance [didn't know that at the time], which would eventually get bad enough that I lost most of my friends and guild and eventually made me go reroll to PvE at the launch of ICC on a server I've been on ever since. I will say that back in TBC the people out in the world were just so friendly on my server - I found a guild, help [I was a total nooblet to both MMORPG's and PvP in general], and a lot of support and friendship. More so than I ever found on PvE. Sure, I made friends on PvE but I never found that sense of community. It was definitely frustrating at times being out in the world but I had a full friend's list, an active guild, and had people come to help me. Later on, I would be able to return the favor and I have stories about logging on, finding out people had been camped late at night for over an hour and chasing said ganker over hill and dale just killing them over and over in glee. That being said - I had no want to roll on a Classic PvP server [or at the launch of TBC Classic which I do fully intend to be there for because hey - that's my nostalgia finally] because I knew the situation would not be the same and be more what you experienced. People have pissed and moaned about how flying ruined PvP, or how the queue system ruined PvP but honestly - the players themselves really ruined it. People don't want to pick fights that they might lose. A lot of the PvP was ganking lowbies, killing off NPC's at quest hubs, and camping 5 man entrances to make lowbies corpse crawl in. Once a higher level shows up, the ganker(s) flee and honestly, I only had people of my own level attack me if they had friends for the most part. It was a very rare experience for me to be attacked by another person at level questing in the same zone. Later on, it became camping raid portals to screw with guilds, which seems to be the mindset in Classic. I'm not surprised, though I am surprised how many people were sporting the rose-colored glasses so hard they became blind-sighted at what PvP servers always were. It does always entertain me when people boast about being hardcore since they play on PvP servers - you know, compared to "Hello Kitty Island Adventure". I always laugh, because at that point I just assume they're the ones killing quest givers and griefing lowbies, running away with their tail between their legs when a real fight turns up, and/or being unable to PvP effectively when a real fight showed up. I will say that you do develop a better sense of awareness playing on a PvP server and I always had world defense on so I'd know if I was traveling into a war zone like SS or Astranaar. I remember high levels just waving or the priests who MC'ed me to buff me. I remember all the times I went to someone else's rescue and all the times someone came for me. I remember all that far better than the times I was ganked but it's not an experience that's going to come back around again and I'm okay with that.

It was maybe fun during phase one, but then it just went by a landslide. I had a very similar experience with PvP servers on a WotLK private server I tried about a year ago. 99% of the time levelling I'd get ganked and sometimes camped (not always skulled enemies, but I was clearly ambushed/outmatched every time) but there was the odd time where I'd just see the other faction just stand from a distance, give a friendly wave and go about their daily business. That was just about the only time I enjoyed PvP, was when there *was* no PvP. Only other thing I'd say was interesting about it was how on your toes you had to stay, you couldn't just absent-mindedly wander about because you have to stay alert to other players. Yeah, I think I'll stick to PvE servers if I ever get into TBC

interestingly, I enjoyed wpvp to some degree on private servers, mostly because they were either more balanced or smaller, or both. Even warmane's icecrown are de facto smaller than the more populated classic servers, if for nothing else, then because folks sit in the cities. In the three-four months of classic I played, the wpvp experience was running between the absurd, the ridiculous, the comic, and sometimes the fun. Big player numbers, weird honor system, faction imbalance, and the relative lack of other pvp content just overwhelmed the scene.

Really PvP is just for people with tiny peeeners wanting to attack people when they are not ready for it. They wait until you are attacking a world boss and you are down to 10 hp, then they attack. @Warcrafter43 жыл бұрын
I believe the term for those type of pvp players are Vultures. They aren't Wolfs(Normal pvper) or Lions(PvP leaders/Challenge seekers) because they actively avoid fair fights and try to pick off the weak like Vultures do. Most open world PvP players end up just being Vultures and they tend to kill off open world PvP games due to constantly killing other players unfairly driving players away from said games.

I had a really great PVP experience on Whitemane as alliance. This was mainly because I had a VERY active and competitive guild from private servers. My gf and I also played together constantly, so I was never without back-up in open world. We would coordinate world buffs with multiple alts for teleports, we would have many scouts and alliances for BRM. We never ran into problems with losing world buffs because we would have our 2nd raid team go in first as a PVP raid and clear out BRM first, then run in with our primary raid team; and swap on each raid day. Everybody was required to have consumes and sappers, we coordinated bubbles and HoTS with our mages to spam AoEs. We had many clips of 40-80 of us wiping 200-400 horde at BRM during the early months of release and P2. I heavily enjoyed the competitive nature of clears and speedruns on our server between the factions. We would camp other guilds and find out their raid times so we could wipe them and strip buffs so they couldn't compete with our clear speeds. It's kind of scummy, but this entire experience was extremely bonding for the guild. We all had strong goals to work together for and formed a strong community to be the best. Being outnumbered 30-60 made the accomplishments feel much sweeter. We even controlled world bosses which was extremely difficult and took the coordination of multiple guilds on shifts and fighting hundreds of horde. I can definitely understand PVP servers being frustrating, especially for the severely outnumbered alliance with horde being imbalanced with racials. I can see how griefing and not being able to do open world quests or leveling would make people not want to play. But it made the world feel a lot more threatening and it made people stick much tighter together to push through the horde. It formed a strong community for people to be able to do anything. The biggest problem is the massive imbalance between the factions. You can see that ALL the pvp servers are 40 ally to 60 horde or much much worse. Some servers have even turned into 1% alliance and 99% horde; it's a huge problem. If the factions were balanced or if there were faction queues 90% of the issues with PVP servers wouldn't exist.

This time around everyone is a tryhard with Engineering looking to grief and make content with a Linkin Park soundtrack and screen shakes of their sick ganks. I transferred to a PvE server after Phase 2 and don't miss being on a PvP server, at all.

PVP realms are only fun early on. After a few months, they fill up with ganking 60s. New chars become alts covered in the best gear/enchants so fighting them won't be much fun either unless you did the exact same shit. Meta gaming knowledge/guides also helps to ruin it as everyone runs the best classes/builds and knows all the valuable areas/items. Back then, no one knew wtf they were doing so you rarely found top quality alts and many players had bad builds. On PVE, none of that shit is a problem. You can enjoy the game at any point in the realm's life. Later players may have advantages but it doesn't take anything away from you. The only issue is lack of groups because low levels barely have anyone in them anymore. But as far as questing out in the world goes... you're still fine.

:) good on ya man, imo too many people roll on pvp servers cause its like 'the thing to do' i play both pvp and pve servers, and i love them both, and honestly pve probably my favourite, you can still pvp, but you get to choose when you do.

I was still leveling when Phase 2 dropped. I abandoned a Lv 40 toon on a PvP server to escape the griefing and started a new main on a PvE server. I recovered that toon via server transfer when they became available and made him an alt. Seemed like "PvP" at the time was either: 1. Be a pain and gank people 2. Get ganked while trying to level. Not fun

My favorite memory in classic phase 2 is when I was nearby the path leading from zojamba village up into the Aeries that is most of the zone, and I look and see this level 54 paladin slowly dying to some mobs during that stupid chicken escort quest and he’s just totally given up the guy knows that the gig is up and is just waiting to see if he gets a retribution crit before death... when a level 60 shaman on an epic mount rolls up in BiS healer gear and dismounts directly at him But instead of earth shocking his ass I killed the mobs and helped him with the rest of the escort quest and it was great to just share in someone else’s experience of relief and victory And literally all I had to do is not be a mongoloid proto ape and start slamming all of my ability buttons simultaneously because they’re red and that means they’re bad

Yeah I used to go help horde with their mobs, let em get full hp and when they think they safe, and are about to leave, I strike and kill them.

I would go PVE on my classic character but my main worry is not being able to transfer back to a PVP server in TBC for arena since I imagine most of the arena community will try to be on a single server, likely a PVP one.

Im still trying to convince my friends to go pve in tbc one good thing with retail is that all servers are pve now and it was a godsend

I won’t be staying on PVP servers for TBC it’s a much smaller area and the farming places are also very small.

the best way to play this game is the way in which you enjoy it the most

I'm leveling a warrior mostly solo on a pvp server. I'm having a lot of fun. Don't know why people get so worked up about it. The world is dangerous and sometimes you get aggrod by people you stand no chance against. Sometimes you do stand a chance. Sometimes you can get others to help you clear out annoying gankers that won't stop being aggro. The world is dynamic and unpredictable on PvP servers, and that's the point.

A dude from a German PvP Server here (Dragons Call, Horde) I started my journey on Lucifron (A German PvP Server, actually our first, and our ONLY Server at classic release) Lucifron is now 100% Horde, and me and my friends saw it coming from the first week on, so we changed to Dragons Call which is 60% Horde atm. I totally understand your decision. I am pretty tired at this point. The Arkanite ores are camped by Max Geared, Thunderfurry wielding no lifes which will farm your ass if you dare to mine one ore. I wish, I as a "casual" player had the chance to farm anything. Its hard enough against bots and your own faction, so I would consider changing to a PvE Server too. But I cant leave my friends, and our guild behind. You know how it is^^

I get it... for me though, world PVP is one of the best things about Wow classic. It did get a bit toxic on phase two but now it is pretty leveled... Comparable to my initial experience in 2005.

Just an honest question. How do you like the PvP aspect as an Alliance Shadow Priest :D
@haldir1083 жыл бұрын
I ONLY rolled PVE at the start, because my friend was butthurt about how PVP played out on nostalrius (i had a fine time there. No idea what he was talking about). However, seeing how different the communities are, i'm so glad i ended up here. Get buffs right before raid, fewer people buy gold so gold is less inflated, the majority of guilds are casual or semi-hardocre, the drama basically ammounts to that one guy who left the server with his thunderfury, and that was months ago. Colaborative environment regarding the buffs, with no ninja-poppers, and just a generally good community. I miss engaging in open world PVP sometimes, but absolutely love how much better my server is than the average reddit post makes it seem. Maybe i'll play on RP server next time, just to get even more of the same vibes.

Moving from PvP to PvE (RP) was the BEST single decision I've ever made in wow, it's lead to so much more general enjoyment from the game. Killing and being killed can be exciting but in the end it's usually some massively over geared players trolling lower geared or those without a group getting swarm camped.
