We all love Bucerias and enjoy it's beauty and charm. In today's video, we're diving into a longstanding issue in Bucerias: trash. But here's the silver lining - local residents are stepping up to tackle this problem head-on by cleaning up the streets themselves!

What a beautiful video Paul. When we were there Feb/Mar for 1 month, I couldn't believe how much garbage was on the streets. We went to Ajijic for 4 days to break up our month and we walked around the whole town and we couldn't believe how clean it was there. They had a 4 day festival in the park with 100's of locals drinking and having a great time. The next day the park was totally cleaned up you wouldn't know they just had this festival.

What a great idea!! I wonder if I can start this in La Paz? Dog really get into a lot of the garbage that is left out twice a week for pick up. Most residents out where bags out the night before instead of waiting until morning so the street dogs really get into a lot of it. The of course the general public who just drop garbage.

Good stuff Paul! Starts with the kids, educate them about the problem in school. I remember telling my parents you shouldn't throw trash out of the car, I'm sure it hit home. That was early 70's in Colorado. Where is the trash hauled off to that is collected, Landfill? Burn Pile? Not an easy problem to solve!

I live in England and sadly littering is also a problem here. People are careless regardless of social status, I have seen it firsthand. A friend of mine who lives in Italy, by seaside started a cleanup group a few years ago as well. People need to educate themselves and have respect, there is no excuse, especially here where there are plenty of bins all over.

👏 Canada! Yeah, the garbage is what I can’t really understand. Why doesn’t the local government initiate this, like put out garbage cans/bins on corners instead of piling it? Education and leading by example is key.

Bucerias is beautiful! I’m looking at various coastal towns/cities in Mexico to retire to. QUESTION: Was Bucerias the place where, for a time, people couldn’t swim in the ocean due to some bacterial overgrowth? I know that it was a beach town north of PV, but can’t remember if it was Bucerias or a different beach town?? Does anyone know/remember?

Thanks Paul, I normally enjoy your great videos however on this one I have a different take. I believe that we are guests in this country and therefore having a bunch of self serving virtue signalling Canadians showing Mexicans what they should do can be very demeaning to Mexicans and if the local community thought it was as important as Canadians think it is they would sort it out very quickly . By the way I walked passed that corner on Sunday and yesterday morning and it still looks exactly the same.
@MovingToMexiCo

I don’t get too wrapped up in the identity of the people and instead focus on the outcome. The program is for a once a week cleanup so it makes sense that the garbage would be there again.
@sfrentals4769
@sfrentals4769 3 ай бұрын
I agree with you, but OTOH the expats (I dislike the term gringo, as it’s demeaning) are trying to do something good even if it means bringing their culture and values. This is why I personally don’t believe in becoming an expat. You never truly fit in, and are either taking advantage of a cool/fun/cheap (those less cheap these days ;) developing country or you end up preaching your values, however well meaning you intend to be (though I have seen some pretty damn annoying type A busy bodies running around in Puerto Vallarta.) At least the Canadians manage to deal with this dichotomy better then most other expat groups I’ve seen in various cities throughout my travels ;)
