Kinda defeats the point of a kickstarter for a book, though. If anyone could print a copy from a PDF, why would people fund the production of physical copies?
@lanie57593 ай бұрын
@@lucasthemycologist I mean, it doesn't have to be a part of the kick starter. It could be a part of just the later sales. But also, there are PDF copies of so many books available, and most people still choose to buy the physical copy, because its a lot of effort to produce a physical copy of a book yourself, and more money to pay someone else to do it. And even still, the result will be different from buying it. Ive seen successful crowd funding operations that had a PDF version of books before. The point is accessibility, and he wouldnt *have* to produce that copy of the book, and hed still get some revenue from it.

This actually reminds me of how I got a copy of Turtles All The Way Down. I was in high school, wicked depressed, doing very badly, and so broke that I was only eating eggs, rice, and potatoes. Turtles All The Way Down had just come out; I wanted to read it, but I couldn't afford a copy. I was the last person in the locker room at the gym, and I was walking out with my stuff. I looked down, and on the ground, with a couple pages torn, was a brand new copy of Turtles All The Way Down. I looked around for anyone left in the locker room, I checked the inside of the book for a name, nothing. Since it was pretty badly ripped, I figured whoever had it didn't like the book much, so I picked up the scattered pages and put them and the book in my bag. At lunch, I sat in the library and taped the pages back in. At the end of the day, I walked home, sat down, and read the entire book, cover to cover. It made me cry, and made me feel seen, and the fact that the book was abandoned like that made it feel like somehow it was waiting for me. Just figured I'd share.

@Azravald From what I've gathered, it's a reference to "An Absolutely Remarkable Thing" which was written by Hank. The concept of "finding the book in the trash" and "the book having its own desires" was narrative from the novel. Basically, the book was a fictional book within a book by Hank Green, and now Hank Green is making the book a real thing.

Not obscenely expensive, but a nicer car at the time. The dents are localized to in front of the passenger door; nothing else has been touched except by weather. The headliner sagged as a result of weather damage since the front passenger door wasn't closable. The roof eventually rusted to the point of detaching along the passenger side, tearing the ruined headliner. The glass on the front passenger door may have been busted when it was left there, but the other windows probably broke over time. The passenger door was prone to accelerated wear, which is why there's a chunk missing above the window. I'm not sure if insurance auctioning off totaled cars was common at the time. I'm guessing the owner was left with a totaled Chevy after some traffic signal was ignored, resulting in a side collision toward the front of the vehicle. Rather than take it to a junkyard, they towed it to a field that couldn't be used for much else due to the steep, rocky hills and just... left it there. Because it was easier. I'm no Rainbolt, so I can't say anything about the surrounding area and how Hank may have spotted it, but it's not terribly relevant to the car whether the land it's on got eminent-domain'ed into having a road nearby that wasn't there before, or if it was just left in public view in a rural area to begin with.

The Book of Good Times is a prominent feature (character?) in A Beautifully Foolish Endeavour, the sequel to An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. (Both are worth a read!) I can see how this concept would be very weird out of context. To be fair, it's fairly weird even in context. Though that can be said for many things in Nerdfighteria - and that's why we love it!

紙 = Kami = paper (折り紙 = origami, folding paper) 神 = Kami = god/gods (死神 = shinigami, death god) 髪 = Kami = hair (前髪 = maegami, front hair aka fringe/bangs) And this is one of the less common homophones in Japanese (this is why kanji is a thing because trying to read all-kana Japanese is a nightmare ww)
