@@memebruh2024 greatest example of common failures are smd components that experience stress physically example smd micro USB charging port. You will see them lift from pcb alot in comparison to hybrid through hole micro USB ports and also those mini HDMI ports that are also smd and don't rely on through hole support. Through hole provides more strength and support than smd does for I/O ports

@contytub

@@Eckmuhl29flux does multiple things ... cleans the weld surfaces from oxids and gunk and prevents further corosion when hot during process. Transfers heat better to welding surfaces/welded objects and helps against thermal shock by distributing heat to a bit more surrounding surface. It's corosive tho so it has to be removed clean after weld

@@Eckmuhl29 I learned soldering when I was about 10. I didn't know the existence of flux other than the inner rosin core of tin wire. I developed a superb technique of soldering and i was creating strong and shiny joints. I certainly had soldering grease, but i just used it for cleaning the iron tip. When I was around 30 and years after an EE degree, i was told to use solder flux, specially for reworking with SMD. I throught that it wouldn't do any difference as my technique was already close to perfect. But once I watched a resin drop hanging from a branch of a pine. I was so intrigued the I dissolved such drop into a little bit of isopropyl Alcohol. Then I applied such mixture to some SMD pads and tried soldering some TSOPs.... Holly Sh*t!!!

Slowly slowly aluminium is taking place of copper
@andrebello4191
@andrebello4191 5 ай бұрын
Its either cheaper. Or it conducts more for its mass. Even though copper conducts more for cross section area. Maybe. Something like that. Or maybe aluminum is just more plentiful and easier to find or can be easier to obtain by recycling or something like that. Mass is especially important in hydro transmission lines and also in vehicles. Maybe aluminum also has better strength and corrosion resistance.

well spotted. it is huge problem. Aluminum is much worse in conductivity, it doesn't solder well too - and it destroys copper in direct contact due to different internal metal resistance.

if your soldering iron tip is pure CRAP, you can't do it. But if you KNOW how to keep it proper - it is possible and good!
@mahootina52
@mahootina52 3 ай бұрын
Condition of the tip has nothing to do with it, prolonging heat applied to solder causes it to start to crystallise which causes a substandard joint. And it doesn't take too long for it to start happening.
@HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH
@HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH 3 ай бұрын
@@mahootina52 it has everything to do with tip. Solder does not crystalize and doesn't go bad - what you mean is that it oxidates. Thats what flux is for, it defeats oxidation. You can heat any metal to its melting point, it won't go bad. Flux should not be exposed to heat for a long time, as it evaporates and burns. Didn't I say that its a problem of NOVICE solder with flux core? You heat it up and it burns flux - and because you don't pre-flux, joints get too low flux and get brittle. Don't use flux core and use pure core with dedicated pre-fluxing. Or just add dedicated pre-fluxing to flux-core.

Too much solder on that the flux is to help the solder flow and adding more solder makes it bubble up and clump like you see here. The solder needs to flow down towards the pad. Too much solder bubbles and clumped up wouldn't pass ocia standards

A ton of morons in comments. This solder is CORRECT. This wire isn't copper, but aluminium, it does not solder well too, it does not soak solder well, it needs ton of flux to catch solder and of course, it does NOT go through the holes. And using MORE flux is CORRECT - better contact, MORE solder is also CORRECT - larger contact area from cable to board - less contact resistance, less heating.
