Guys please consider a senior doggy for a rescue! My pupper is 19, blind, deaf, and wears diapers for peeing. I know, I know!!! BUT…he still plays, bring joy to our lives, and just because he has some “difficulties,” we absolutely love him!!! Remember that all dogs require effort! Don’t assume that a senior dog is any less enriching than a new puppy. My dog as a puppy (my roommate’s coworker’s dog had an unexpected litter l so I got one so they didn’t have to go to a shelter) required WAY more work in regards to training and time as a puppy than he does as a senior even with all his “issues.” Give it a thought, for Solly my senior! ❤❤❤
@sneakypenguin28617 ай бұрын
I adore senior dogs. My childhood lab and and terriers both left too soon (for my heart) but they were just as cute and wonderful as blind, confused, poorly oldies as they were when they were puppies. I completely agree with you on how much a senior has to offer! ❤

It's not always a suitable match but I'd encourage anyone who CAN adopt a senior dog to do so, especially if you know you can't commit the energy etc. for a puppy.
@margodphd6 ай бұрын
My "oldiest" whom I adopted at 14 years of age was an active, happy, alert dog right until his last months when he had a stroke that we fought through and that made him require more care. Another oldie enjoyed balls and walks despite his joints holding on likely by sheer willpower, the only additional expenses being anti inflammatory and Librella injections (as joint support supplements and even hyaluronic acid injections and such are something all big dogs in risk of degenerative joint disease need as prevention). I only adopt seniors and "finders keepers" dogs and still, the most diaper experiences 😂 I have had was with a very young doggo who needed abdominal surgery out of nowhere. What I'm trying to say in convoluted way is that with pets you ought to be ready for any level of medical care, young dogs aren't immune to falling ill. Senior pets require more often checkups and a bit more vigilance but unless they have very special needs, the care requirements aren't all that time consuming (keeping up the medication, being observant of any change in behaviour) up until the very end of life (and sometimes - not even then). Life with seniors isn't constant sacrifice, drips and diapers- it's mostly joy, lower intensity exercise and hanging out together on the couch. Seniors are extremely good cuddlers and they are the most charming, grateful companions whose love makes you feel like you are on cloud 9. They are perfect for people who have no stairs and lower energy levels 😅

I fostered a GP named Murphy. He was a mix with a rough collie (which is my breed) but literally the only indication he was a mix was his coloring. Everything from physical to personality was GP. He came to me at 40 lbs and left at 90 and still a little slim. He was one of the easiest fosters ever. Aside from learning he was allowed inside (where he behaved like a gentleman), that people did care to spend time with him, and teaching him that we don’t need to patrol the property at 3:00 in the morning, he was as perfect as a dog could be. It gave me a huge appreciation for the breed.

Oh no no no don't even think of dogs in an apartment!! You'd for sure need to walk those dogs at least once a day for a long walk, and the border Collie would need agility training too. If you had a farm or ranch the Pyrenees would guard the perimeter. They'd get royally filthy but would get a swim in the pond once in a while.

I had two great Pyrenees indoors before we found a groomer when I would brush them it was literally like we were walking in the clouds because there was like 2 feet high of dog fur🤣 I also had to vacuum daily to keep up with it. I do have to add though, they were the very best, most perfect dogs for kids. They loved children like no other dog I’ve ever had and they were so durable I think it’s because of the amount of hair that they had but especially my male dog, he would follow my daughter around like she was the Pied Piper. When my daughter was almost 3 taking a nap on the couch my female was laying of course right next to her on the floor and my daughter in her sleep rolled off the couch onto the dog, the dog didn’t even budge they actually laid there sleeping together afterwards.
@mommashawna7077 ай бұрын
@@jydeinden as much research as I did before I got my two great Pyrenees, somehow I missed that it was literally bred into them to bark. I tried everything. Then one of my daughters friends had mentioned how he loved to go into the bathroom, (we jokingly called it his room) my male great Pyrenees why didn’t I just put him in a time out I laughed at the moment and then later on I thought huh I wonder. I’ll be darned all I had to do was tell him to go to his room and he would go into the bathroom and close the door, not to worry because my female great Pyrenees knew how to open up doors so if he would bark or cry she’d let him right back out but it deterred him from the barking. He actually had a viral video on vine back in the day.

I’d collected the fur over about 7 years. She sent me back the most beautiful yarn I have ever seen. She knows all about what thickness of yarn to spin for different kinds of projects. Also, the dog hair fibers are short, so they have to be spun with another type of long fiber to be strong enough for the yarn not to break easily. She did half of mine with white Merino wool, and it just looked like all Samoyed yarn. The other half she spun with white bamboo fiber, which gave it a subtle sheen . Beautiful. I have a scarf, a hat, and a couple of lap blankets from my beloved dogs. They make me very happy. Teresa is easy to work with. She sent me short samples of the yarns to approve before she started spinning. I think she’s in Pennsylvania. My yarn arrived by mail in California. She does cat hair, too! This is not an ad. I’m just a satisfied customer.

Amazing the owner didn’t think he wouldn’t be as difficult this time. I’ve had a similar thought with my goldens. The ones I think are not so bad, take the longest to groom

My favorite & calm dog is Princess Smoochie, a big beautiful king shepherd. Never made a peep for her almost 3 hour groom! 😊

I love the Great Pyrenees. I have one that I have to groom myself. Their fur mats so easily, plus after their done and looking marvelous, they find a dirt hole to lay in😱❤🥰
