WOW! I just wanted to take a second and thank each and every one of you for the comments! 💕 Seriously I have taken a few separate chunks of time to sit and read each one and you all have made me cry on multiple occasions. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment with the stories, and uplifting & encouraging words. After thinking about all of this and dealing with all these negative thoughts it felt really nice sitting down and getting off my chest. Life changes, especially when it comes to your career and how you make a living can be so scary. I'm feeling really excited to see what 2023 brings. I am getting that motivation back to try new things, work hard at something I am so passionate about and see where it takes me! For now though, it is time to enjoy the holiday season (my favourite time of year), and have a bit of time to breathe and relax in Mexico. I love you guys so much and remember, your happiness and mental health is so important. Be kind to yourself & breathe. 🥰💕 Oh also, you are somebody's reason to smile! 😊🌹

Well, for the pandemic, a lot of people weren't able to work and so their income changed--possibly less disposable income for extras such as planner stickers--but there was also the fact that in-person events were cancelled. A lot of planning revolves around getting together in person, keeping a schedule of activities, and going to appointments. In-person activities really took a hit in March 2020, and I think the planner community reflected that. It's normal for a business to hit hardships and lose profits. It's one of the hardest parts of running your own business. Constant growth is exhausting, and that's what a lot of business is: doing better than the last quarter or last year. It's terrifying to consider losing your income too. I'm so excited to see you take vacations soon!! I know you've taken breaks over the years, but a good few weeks to relax, indulge, and not think about business at all will do wonders. Truly stepping away from work is vital. Breaks and rest are non-negotiable, especially when you run a business on your own. It does sound like you're suffering from burnout and it can take months to recover from that, depending on the severity. I hope Mexico is amazing. I completely understand what you mean about not getting out of bed and forcing yourself to do the bare necessities. These are symptoms of depression for me and I needed to get help from my doctor (and going to therapy soon!) in order to start doing anything again. It happened most recently when I was burnt out because of a job at Timmies that I had to quit. My burnout lasted for probably over a year and I only now feel like I'm getting back to myself--and I left that job December 2020, almost 2 years ago. I fully support you taking a break from putting out stickers and making new stickers. Focusing on your planners sounds like a good choice business-wise, as you've noticed that the planner community has shifted too when it comes to stickers. This also doesn't mean you're shutting the door on the possibility of returning to stickers, if that feels like a good choice for your business and you as a person! If it helps, Jenna, you can call this a sabbatical. :) A sabbatical is common for academics (like university professors) and it is a mindful, intentional break from work or your career. A sabbatical's origins are from the Old Testament (Leviticus 25), where Jews in Israel needed to take a year-long break from working in the fields after seven years. I'm not religious, but a tradition this old and the fact this is coming around the 7-year-anniversary for Planning Roses? It feels very kismet, meant-to-be.

you were one of the first "planner people" I subscribed to. I've noticed the change with planning last year (and especially this year) when I couldn't find anything planner related at Michaels. The planner community as a whole has shifted and that nots a burden you need to carry on your own. I adore your realness and the simplicity of your videos. You are always realistic and relatable which is why I have continued to follow you. I wish you all the mindful healing and your videos really are my reason to smile

Yeah I definitely realized over the past year that the community was shifting but for some reason I kept of putting that change on myself and my business and trying to figure out what I did wrong you know? But I am really starting to remind myself that it isn't all me. It has a lot to do with the overall changes in the community. Thank you so much 🥺💕

I also run a small business part-time, and the constant need to compare yourself to others gets pretty toxic at times. I realized that I was burnt out with my full time job and not even able to concentrate on what I WANTED to do. I recently left education and pediatric therapy after 20 years and am now working at a brewery doing events and marketing. THAT was a huge and important change for me, because I feel like I’m getting myself back after years of burnout. Do what you need to do, love. I don’t really do the board game thing, but I can honestly say I watch this channel for mostly everything but the planning business. Your design/home updates, your DIY, you as a person is what I’ve really connected with. Whatever you decide to do, I’ll stick around. 💜

I am so sorry to hear you have not been feeling well, especially hearing how hard you're being on yourself. No amount of marketing or advertising could've prevented the shift the whole world went into, where we are all much less focused on productivity and much more focused on personal growth and our hobbies. This is not because you didn't work hard enough, the world simply changed for a lot of people! I think more notepads and notebooks would be amazing, especially for journaling, gratitude, and meal planning. I can't wait to see what you come up with!!

I used to co-own a gift shop with my mom before she passed away so I get how you feel. Things are constantly changing and as a small business we just could not afford to necessarily keep up with all of the design and decor trends like a big retail chain could because we were financing the inventory ourselves. I am guessing that owning an online sticker / planner shop is similar in that people want different things and the way that people plan changes and evolves. I believe that to truly be competitive you need to have products and designs that are unique to you and you alone. I know back a few years ago when I was more into planning, I would go onto Etsy to shop for sticker kits and icon stickers, etc., and I would typically see the same popular designs over and over and over again. And the kits that I tended to gravitate towards are those that were more unique. And I am very confident that the pandemic has definitely had a shift in people's buying patterns. Everything in life ~ from clothes to food to gas to pretty much everything in between ~ has increased in price. Many people lost their jobs during the pandemic and those that remained employed or who have managed to find jobs afterwards, have not necessarily seen an increase in their salaries. With that something has to give and the things that tend to get cut out are the luxury type items that we do not truly need to sustain and maintain our daily lives. Unfortunately, planners and stickers fall into this category. You still have all of the equipment and knowledge that you need and it will all still be there waiting for you when ~ and / or if ~ you are ever feeling ready to return. It is not necessarily a goodbye forever but an I'll see you later sort of thing ~~ however long that might be for is something only you can decide. And first and foremost, you need to take care of yourself and get yourself into a positive and healthy mental space. Trust me, I know. I was diagnosed with clinical depression several years ago and it was a struggle to pull myself out of it and it is something that I have to remain diligent about because the creepies can creep back in when you are not paying attention and get caught off guard. During this time, hold tightly onto Frances, your family, your friends, and to Penny. It is amazing what a comfort a dog's love can bring. It is unconditional and never ending. You have an amazing support system so don't be afraid to lean on them during this time. It does help. And I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. And I am always here if you need to talk to someone who is not so closely entwined into your day to day life. Love ya, girl. You got this ~ continue to have faith in yourself!!

Big hugs Jenna! Do what you think is best for you and take care of yourself first, the rest will follow. Burn out is indeed something I feel like a lot of us have gone through at some point. I too had moments in my planner journey and shop that I experienced this & even youtube. Taking a step back, looking at my shop and life at a different perspective helped me find that creative spark again. Sometimes taking a pause to breathe lifts up the burden of expectations we place on ourselves as creatives. The hustle can drain us for sure. Change does need to happen and we will learn to adapt to that. On another note related to board games, maybe shifting towards stationery and novelty items related to that? a board came tracker, keychains etc? digital files are one way to keep a passive income too. Im so so proud of you for what you've accomplished! we'll be here :)

The pandemic was really hard for so many of us! You are not alone in this. So many small businesses completely closed down in our area. I don’t think you should view it as a failure as it isn’t a failure but a shift in your business focus. (I’m super sad I missed the anniversary sale). I think your community will support you no matter what you do. I myself have been watching since 2015 and I’m not going anywhere. As a planner I can tell you how I approach consumerism has completely changed, I buy very little and am really trying to use what I have. When the the pandemic hit like so many I was laid off and UI barely covered even my mortgage payments so I think many people have changed their spending. Even now that things have opened up I am still trying to keep my discretionary spending to a minimum and use up what I have. I think growth and change has to happen in life so embrace it and enjoy your life. I know it’s easier said than done. I personally can’t wait to see what new products you come out with ❤️

Take your time, Jenna. There's this pressure on 'passion' in our society, that once you find it, you do it for the rest of your days and it gives you limitless joy. Passion can be a burden too! It's totally okay to take some time off your passion, and focus on something else. And if there's not really 'something else', to just live and be for a while. As I see it, you can have multiple passions, and if you loose connection with one, it's sad, but it also shows you that you are evolving and that something else is just around the corner.

JENNA ROSE. You are an angel, and I know you already know this, but you are WAY too hard on yourself. Am I sad I can't buy Planning Roses stickers anymore? Absolutely. Would I be WAY MORE SAD if my sweet friend Jenna was forcing herself into something that's not right for her at the moment and totally stressing herself out? ABSOLUTELY. You have poured your heart and soul into Planning Roses, and it was absolutely not for nothing. So many people found you through that avenue and simply fell in love with your kind spirit and hilarious personality. While the stickers were a fun hobby we all shared and a way for you to be supported in the work that you do, it wasn't the stickers that kept us around--it was YOU! And no matter if you're making planner stickers or interior decorating videos or new board game channels or streaming on twitch--the common denominator in all of those scenarios is you. And that's all any of us have ever really asked for. You deserve happiness. You deserve to feel light and free and loved. You deserve every break you take and every challenge you take a step back from--sometimes the bravest thing isn't continuing to fight. Sometimes the bravest thing is walking away. You are so, so brave Jenna. Love you girly.
