@@AndyyWithAY it makes sense though... it explains the motivations for both their behaviors without them being on drugs. Sara is a fucking loony tunes trying to trick her way back into the family & Jake is trying to get rich the "old fashioned" way (which gold diggers get a bad name since most are good mercenaries. A mercenary relationship doesn't necessarily make it bad... as long as the mercenary & employer both uphold the terms of their contract, that can be a very strong and long lasting relationship.)

I think the anonymous person was telling the truth. Jake was probably interested in Sarah and then found out about her family, and he made that goal. You know the potential son in law that takes over and becomes a rich business owner and all that. In Sarah's case, she found someone who could keep up with her lifestyle and could provide stability enough to win her way back in with her parents. That being the case, the ring would facilitate this in two ways. First, it would establish that the son came from wealth. The second would be a method for Sarah to show that she had someone who's financially independent. The reason is that high end ring are often looked at as status symbols.

Hey Mark, there is still one more update from OP. I got the update from Reddit Brew. After all the pain, Jake put him through it, He still tried to make things right One More Time with his son. Jake was leaving town for good. Apparently, the story was all over town, even the local police heard of the story of Jake, the ring, and his crazy ex-girlfriend. While OP was trying to talk to him outside his condo, extending an Olive branch to him, he called the police on his father. The police came and remembered OP story and then gave Jake a warning. From then, OP decided to let go of his son until he came to his senses. I think Jake is too ashamed to admit that he's wrong. He is too ashamed to apologize to his father and is too ashamed because his pride has been so hurt. Now that the whole town knows about his entitlement and psyco ex-girlfriend drama, he is too ashamed to be remorseful. That's why he's hitting the road out of town with his tail between his legs. It's sooooo SHAMEFUL.

I remember this story! And just when I thought Jake couldn't get any worse. At this point, as much as I hate to be pessimistic, I think Jake is too far gone. OP just needs to focus on his daughter Amber and let his son Jake go live miserably ever after all by himself. I know it can be hard to give up on a child, but no amount of good parenting can guarantee that your children will turn out well. Too often we as a society tend to blame parents for their adult children turning into garbage people. But sometimes, environmental influences, disorders or just pure bad luck can destroy a child's character despite the loving parents and their best efforts. It's very sad when you think about it.

I think he laughed because when he first started reading these Reddit stories on his KZbin page some commenter called him a Simp for his opinion on one of the stories. Mark didn't know what it meant and so he had to look it up and then asked the viewers if they thought he was a Simp lol. Most said no and the dude that called him that deleted his comment when a bunch of people went at him lol. It was pretty funny and Mark basically shamed the dude into non-existence lol. As a side note: Mark used to have some pretty "simpy" opinions to stories involving skanky, nasty, and gold-digging demanding women lol. There was one other update where OP went to see his son at his condo before he moved away. OP and Jake kind of talked/fought and Jake didn't open the door. Jake called the cops about a "break-in" and OP was arrested (temporary) till the cops went and got the witness (Jake's neighbor that saw/heard everything) and released OP and realized who he was and the drama since one of the cops was there in the precinct where Sara was.

Both of them got the same kind of tumor at the same time? I think Sarah was already crazy and Jake got roped in. Sarah was spoiled from growing up so wealthy. The informant said she had ALWAYS had conflicts with her parents over her demands. Then when the parents cut her off she 1) no longer had reason to act the good child to them and 2) was filled with entitled rage at not getting what she wants anymore. Then she repeatedly threatens a man who is in love with her that she'll leave if he doesn't give her what he wants, that he doesn't really love her if he doesn't get her this ring, that she deserves it, etc. And she puts on the manipulative waterworks to guilt him into getting it for her. She even apparently hits him. So I wouldn't be surprised if she emotionally beat him down into going with her craziness. Not saying he's not responsible for what he did. This is just my explanation as to why they both seemingly went crazy at the same time. Granted, this kind of ignores the informant's theory that Jake was after her family's money. It's still possible that he genuinely loved her and/or that her abuse impacted his worldview. I don't think many people would be willing to put up with that kind of abuse for the rest of their lives just for the chance to mooch off her parents, and if she was indeed very beautiful as OP said then it's even more likely Jake loved her

There is one more update on this story, the OP go last time to visit his son at his apartment to talk him to his senses, but Jake called Police on him with false statement. OP was arrested but the Police officers before booking OP go to a building obtain acses to CCTV and one of the Neighbours and confirm OP testimony. OP was relisted, Police officers us well very quickly got wind what was going on and felt sorry for OP misfortune after that they go w to Jake and give him stern talking about Falce accusation.

I contacted a company earlier today because I had some questions. I hate to talk on the phone so whenever possible I chat or email. Whoever was replying to emails wasn't very good and my direct questions were getting confusing answers. I compose myself much better in writing, but sucked it up and called so I could get this handled. I got a great woman who was so patient with me and didn't get frustrated when it took awhile to both get on the same page. She was absolutely wonderful. Story (Overall) NTA. Thank you, Mark!!! I came back just for the very, very last update alone! Also, NTA: I wouldn't know if the info OP received was legitimate, either. But, if it is then it perfectly explains Jake and Sara's outlandish behavior. Jake is so desperate to live a life of luxury that he was willing to do anything to marry the spoiled Sara, who has become bitter and desperate after being cut off of her family's money. They both treated the ring not as a priceless family heirloom, but as some sort of golden ticket into a life of wealth and bottomless money. Hence why they were willing to steal the ring on several occasions. It didn't matter that Sara couldn't handle the real world without getting arrested or that Jake's mother willed the ring to Amber specifically, they still wanted the ring and the marriage to make both of their greedy ambitions come true...

Probably never will. But he'll probably come back in 10 years and act like nothing ever happened, be all friendly and charming and try to get back into everyone's good graces while they look at him with "WTF?" faces. Seen that a lot in these stories--someone who did wrong comes in all nonchalant as if they didn't just create a catastrophuck in everyone's lives... then get down to brass tacks. Unless he manages to get and keep a really good job where he's headed and learns to tone down his arrogance and spending, he's gonna come back to dad and after a few weeks of good behavior, ask for money (and/or introduce a new gold-digging harpy as his fiancée or wife)

The only advice I would give to him, would be get therapy for yourself and your daughter. Grief compounded by abuse has an impact on your mental health. What the daughter experienced at her brothers hands needs addressing. She sounds level headed but PTSD can lay dormant for awhile.

Jake thought he'd get the benefit of her parents money after marriage? The family might pay for the wedding, maybe honeymoon, and possibly towards a home, but that's a lot of ifs. Best he might get is networking or getting a word put in, but that's not guaranteed. He'd only get her family's money by way of inheritance or trust, but Sara doesn't seem the type share. Op may have prevented his son from spending 20 to life in the pen cause his ambition sounds like would end in blood.

Can't wait for the newest update when Jake comes back and apologizes and OOP and his daughter happily accept him back until they find out he still sees Sarah and she's pregnant with twins and since, by now, the daughter is 18, she has been planning her wedding to her boyfriend who she's been dating for three years (and who wasn't mentioned because not relevant) and she's also pregnant with twins and a new battle for the One Ring begins when Jake and Sarah move their wedding to the date of the sister's wedding. OOP and his buddies save a couple of blind puppies from a burning puppy orphanage at some point although he's stressed that someone close to the family can't come to either wedding because they can't get a babysitter while they decide to stay with their dying husband (car accident) at the hospital. Somewhere, in the middle of some night, in the distance, someone pregnant shares MIL's birthday cake with the Subway Guy and blames MIL's doting rich second husband.

I've heard of a scam people can pull. They go out with a partner for x amount of years, and then the partner goes to propose. The 1st person asks for maybe 10 thousand to be spent, but the 2nd person will try to get it bumped up to 12 thousand. Then the couple leaves the ring with the jewellery shop for safe keeping. Then, the 2nd person calls up to ask if the dimond can be changed for a cubic zirconia. Then, the 2nd person goes back to the shop and asks for the Dimond as they want it in another setting. Then 2nd person breaks up with 1st person. 1st person then goes to the shop to get money back. Though now the ring is not worth much. Also, if that girl likes that ring, get her one of her own.
