Upholsterer here, this is when cars used too have cooled seats not ventilated seats, this was made by a peltier assembly with fins and fans so this explains the cooled seats but not the heated seats. This is the interesting part, the assembly just flip the current on the peltier board and the heated side now run through the ducts on the seat, nowadays manufacturers just uses ventilated seats and a heating pad with wires for the heated seats all this in the name of saving some money. 90's/mid 00's is where you will see the best quality in seats overall. All this said huge fan of your videos, i never tought i will see something so related to my job in your channel.

Holy shit they actually had peltier elements in the seats? That's crazy. Much more effective but also much more power consuming I imagine.

AMD, I used to hold the naive notion that a top Lexus was as worry free as a simple Corolla, Camry or Yaris. While I still admire these top Lexus models, your channel has EDUCATED us about the realistic cost of long-term ownership that comes with the best cars in the world. Although my car is just a poor, distant cousin of this LS, it does offer me the 'luxury' of being uncomplicated. Best of luck to the family owning this beautiful LS 430, their car is certainly in good hands. 😁

Having recently replaced the seat upholstery on my 1999 Lexus ES300 I can appreciate this work. It is tiring, he hardest part was wrapping the bottom upholstery around the cushion my hands were very sore afterwards. It was my firs time upholstering but it came out pretty well. It wasn't OEM leather (I'm not sure if its available and if it was it would be way out of my price range) I found pretty good leather covers on eBay. Just a technical note as to the video as it seems while the audio is at a good level it is low compared to the ads KZbin plays in between. I usually cast these videos to my TV which is quite disorienting when watching this calming video and then being startled by an overly loud commercial. So I turn the volume up for the video which then makes it way too loud for the ads. Thanks KZbin.

My father’s ‘03 LS430 has the most uncomfortable driver’s seat I have ever sat in. Granted I am a larger guy, and nearly 250 lbs but something about the shape or design of the seat causes me great hip pain. I went online on one of the Lexus forums and found that I am not alone. I own a LX470 and that is incredibly comfortable and even my wife’s Prius V can be driven all day with no pain. The resolution on the Lexus forum was to not only replace the pad but to add more cushion to it. Personally I think it’s the side bolster and flat seat bottom combined with the type of pad needed for the cooled and heated seats that causes the pain.

This brought back some memories for me. Not that long ago, I replaced both of the front seat covers on my 2003 RX300 and surprisingly it was very similar to this process. I could not find any videos online that showed the process but I figured it out same as AMD. I was able to get to the 2 rear bolts on the seat pan though since the seat was similar but not as complicated / complex and it made the job easier. Getting the new (fake) leather stretched out was the toughest part after figuring out how to remove and reinstall the seat. AMD is very correct that there are lots of sharp edges that cut your hands and fingers very easily so I was so nervous watching him do this with out any gloves on. Regardless, the seats came out great and very happy! Once again, great job AMD. I can't wait to get my hands on an LS430 and do all of this myself one day. Keep up the good work and great videos!

The father who is receiving the gift would have never noticed anything wrong with the seat. He will be so happy and appreciated by his son that all those little things you are fixing or worrying about are a bit over the top to even be given a second thought. The car is beautiful and shows some normal wear and tear. So that is fine. Gives it character. Sometimes these projects go a bit too far with unnecessary repairs. It is not a show car or a professional blue ribbon restoration. The first thing that will happen when 4 people pile in for a ride is....oops sorry I scratched your leather seat or console. Especially if grand children are involved. So don't sweat it.

A comment for turn signal assembly, what a weird color combination, GREY? It should have been black like the rest of interior? But then I also noticed that the switches for mirror are also grey...However, it is a weird color combination, in my opinion, but then I guess it is to make them more visible, and not have them all blend in the background...

11:00 under seat heat - often people look for rear vents (usually in less expensive or sport tuned cars) - so maybe not that much reach but the rear airflow is there under the seats, but not redirected to adjustable vents. So in "practical - purpose vs weight (it can make the difference as often cars are at the top of their weight class before being put into the next level up) and cost" - it is not as terrible as one might think - heat and cooling is still getting back there to a good degree.
