Sonex-B: Bigger and Better

Very heartwarming video. Who doesn't love the concept of building your own airplane? The Sonex line of aircraft are beautiful (when properly executed!) and Spirit of the Red One genuinely exemplifies it. Evolution, not revolution, incorporating some of the new tech: match hole skins, laser cut parts, billet options, a pre-designed 'builder assist program' yet a great flying, sturdily robust frame with sports car handling. The performance envelope: stall (with flaps) @ 40mph and Vne of 196mph is crazy good, all while getting great MPG and doing what all pilots do: staying current by flying the pattern alone. Oh, and this little ego gem didn't cost as much as the house, either! I bet the little Oshkosh firm sells more kits than other kit companies because pricing seems to be modest, approachable and yet allows the builder to do a smaller, yet crazy expensive glass panel if they so choose! I note tons of happy builders on YT (better pilots than 'content creators'!) and lots seat time of those who complete their builds! The best of all worlds, right?

Fascinating that he mention the Italian government. Ran into a relatively new airplane on the net recently. The Italian made, "Risen". One look at it and you can see it has much of the characteristics of the Sonex, but highly refined.
