The familiar and beautiful mellow song of the blackbird that can be heard in any English garden, and some of the other calls that it males.

awwww that's cute! i have a pair that live in my garden. the male one is not scared of me at all, rather the other way around with me making sure not to annoy him 😂 i put out some bird seed mix and suet, ocassionally some fruit or whatever - he just zooms out of the bushes and starts eating it when i'm right next to him... i try stay still cause i'm a bit scared as he fights off the wood pigeons and even the 2 magpies that live next door 😂 none of them even attempt to fight back hahaha, i just hope they'll stay safe for even more years here 🙂

We have had the same pair live in a bush in our garden for four years now. They are extremely cute, especially the male who is also very friendly and curious. They are currently looking after their second lot of babies this season. Looking forward to having them here for many more years to come.

I never realized how relaxing the sound of the Blackbird is until now, I'd like to think I'm quite a mellow person and where I live is absolutely flocked with Blackbirds, Sparrows, Magpies, Wood Pigeons, Pheasants, occasionally some birds of prey (We see them circling the crescent I like on at least once a year), Robins and more. And I sleep fantastically during Spring and Summer thanks to the call of our Virtuoso community of Blackbirds.

I miss the calls of our once plenty pheasant. So few farmers have left the scrub/brushlines of the past, in their complete efficiency. I do have a plethora of other birds to enjoy, especially barn owls in old buildings, on the farm in the mid Willamette Valley of Oregon. For decades we have aided a local farmers Co op of collecting owl pellets for a school program . 🌞

I'm jealous! I used to get the morning chorus, but now I live near the sea.i have to go inland to hear this beautiful music. Living by the sea isn't all it's cracked up to be! Silence is good, but my heart lifts whenever I heard the song of blackbird. My friends look at me strange when I say "hello Mr. Black"!!

We have a black bird who is retuning for the third year. He comes to the kitchen window and when it is open comes in and helps himself from an open currant bag. He often sings to us when he has finished eating and shows no fear and makes eye contact. This year he appears not to have young as in other years he took a break full of raisins and kept returning several times a day. He really has bonded with my sister and l am sure knows her.

One was singing here until about 20 mins ago. It's now dark so the birds have gone to roost. He'll start up again around 5am or earlier. Guaranteed to have my cats jumping up at the window. Don't worry. The birds are safe. All my cats are indoor cats only. I love the sound of the dawn chorus led by the lovely Blackbird. Same goes for the evensong. So relaxing.

I've seen blackbirds being called "bully birds". They're often lumped in with starlings. I don't find them the bullying type at all. My blackbird visitors are far from it, they don't scare away any other species. In fact I've often seen them side by side with a robin in my garden.

I live in the countryside and as I type I can hear a dozen different birds. One of them has a very distinct call which I keep noticing, and it sounds like the title lyrics to the song 'Morning has broken' by Cat Stevens. Googling it now, to find if that was the inspiration, I find this video, and also that the word blackbird is in the second line of the song. I'm sure this is widely known, but it's news to me, having not really heard much birdsong until my recent move out to the countryside.

Maurice bravo love your ornithological little cameos. My favourite is the common blackbird as it is so easily discernible. Turdus merula merula its linnean definition. I love this bird as it reminds me of long nights spent hoeing the flower beds and a rather cheeky brave male blackbird used to come and see if I had in covered an earth worm a late supper treat for him. I also think of my late mother watching on supervising the work in her beloved garden, smiling and looking at me as the blackbird came foraging. Happy memories of her and my old home alas now gone like dear mum. Golden memories to treasure. Thanks Maurice and keep on producing these delightful videos.

Thanks for Sharing, and very useful indeed as I'm using the audio to play to a nestling we had to rescue after their nest was discovered and destroyed by a magpie, we hard the commotion but we got to the nest to late for his 4 sibling, but at least the smallest one is doing well now, he only survived the raid as he was pushed to the bottom of the nest by his bigger siblings who thought it was food coming. Finding enough worms, which blackbirds seems to find easy, is giving us bigger problems, we're not worried by the 20-30 minutes feeding routine, oher than that everything seems to be going fine, fingers crossed...

Beautiful bird song! Love blackbirds, but out here in Australia they are an introduced pest! They are much less of a problem than starlings, Indian Mynah birds, sparrows and a host of other birds, plants and animals that often threaten the survival of native species. Still, I do love the sound(s) of the blackbird, especially in the evening!!! Blackbird singing in the dead of night...

Thanks, that was a great video. I have a question. Our situation is that the people that live next to me brought a baby blackbird to us that was too young to be out of the nest and there was a string of hot days ahead (around 40 degrees celcius) and plenty of predators about. We re-hydrated and fed it, but as here in Australia blackbirds are considered pests and can't be released, the only legal options we had were to either have the bird destroyed or to keep it ourselves, so we're now raising it. We've had it for about 5 days now and it's now a fledgling. Today it's started to try to make difference vocalisations to me other than just the standard baby bird noises. It almost sounded like it trying to very quietly sing. As it only has its baby feathers, will I be able to sex it by its vocal calls before it gets adult feathering?
@MauriceBaker100
@MauriceBaker100 8 жыл бұрын
+Sam S (CupcakeCaper) Hi Sam, at that young an age there is no easy way that I know of to tell the sex of your young blackbird. In the later stages as a juvenile you may be able to notice that the male has a darker appearance that a female and can look remarkably like an adult female. There is not really any visual, behavioural or vocal differences at this early stage , it looks as if you will have to weight until its first moult in the autumn.
