One of my favorite MTG art of all time. I have been coming back to it and admiring it often, but this is the first time that I discovered this video. The workflow is amazing!!! Thank you for this and all your art, Noah!

It's hard to commit to an absolute favorite, but I was hoping you had some social media because I was playing mtg arena and the thought hit me- I think this is my favorite card art in the game. This is SO gorgeous! What a wonderful painting. Thank you for sharing this process, I always love watching you paint. Quick question: since you did work with different mediums, did you use anything to seal the various layers? Primarily the acrylic/ink layers before going in with oils?
@TeamBradley4 жыл бұрын
Nah, the acrylics tend to stay pretty well put once they're down. So everything stayed alright when I started working with the oils. Thanks so much! :) - Noah

Great work Noah. Really interesting process. I would never have thought to build it up the way you did. So you can actually paint with oils on illustration board? For some reason I've heard that when oils are able to soak into the surface (as would be the case with illus board) it may disintegrate over time? I'm not sure - would love to hear your thoughts on this. You've inspired me to try the acrylic underlay prior to working with oils on top. What a neat idea. I usually hate acrylics, so to be able to use it simply as a quick lay in is a great idea. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work. Enjoy hearing about your process.
@miidysama99084 жыл бұрын
Hey, a general question since I've just discovered you! Do you usually paint traditionally and only do a few touch-ups or do you also have a good amount of full-on digital paintings? Is it of use to have about the same amount of knowledge in both mediums, for example digital painting in photoshop but also acrylics/oils/gouache? What do you or most concept artists and illustrators in your area of work prefer? Thanks for your great work!!

Are you using stock brushes, or a pen to work? I see your single strokes have multiple opacities, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how you do it!

Such a sublime piece! Is great to see the whole process, very educational. I don't know if it is a dumb question, but how do you make the transition from the physical canvas to digital?
@Aneriana4 жыл бұрын
Great artwork, Noah. 👏 Can I ask how do you usually scan (or photograph?) your artwork to send as a digital? Do you do this before varnishing? I tend to take photos of my paintings but I'm struggling sometimes so I like to see how others do it.
@stillyoung39974 жыл бұрын
I’m sure this is a really stupid question but I’ve never really thought about it before, how do you get it onto the computer to do the digital touch ups? Absolutely amazing piece btw

A question that I have for a while in my head. Sometimes I found that some artworks on MTG cards looks like almost sketchy or if they were made speedpainting and that it took less than 5 hours to make. And then there is these great artworks like yours, Magalie Villeneuve, Howard Lyon, Ryan Pancoast and so on, that you can see lot of work and talent was put into it. The question that is haunting me is: "Is WotC paying the same for a piece regardless of it it took 40 hours or 4 hours for the artist to paint it?"
@TeamBradley4 жыл бұрын
Haha yep, same rate for everybody. - Noah

amazing work man, thanks for sharing the process! can you point out when in the video you switch from acrylic to oil?
@TeamBradley4 жыл бұрын
I'm... actually not 100% sure. Would take some looking to really figure it out. I think it's when you notice the edges of the piece get a lot darker and more of a rich blue. Think I started in oils by going in with some gentle glazes to bring out the contrast. - Noah

Great piece. How do you get the painting from your canvas on your computer? Just take a picture of it with a camera or how does that work exactly? Always been wondering about this step, since I would probably be worried about some issues with the camera/painting being slightly angled or something like that. Thanks for the answer.

Sometimes I photograph the piece, but I believe for this one I scanned it in sections and then merged it in Photoshop. It varies, they all have their pros and cons. - Noah
