James basket was the first black man to win an Oscar, and Disney refuses to acknowledge those achievements. People like to say "oh it wasn't a real one though, it was honorary," yeah and WHY was it honorary? Because the racists in Hollywood back then refused to admit he deserved a real one, that means he did so well that they HAD to acknowledge him. Hell he prolly earned the 'real' award but they had to change it to an honorary because of the politics of the time. Which to me says a HELL of a lot more of his accomplishments that he managed to get that in spite of the times.

I see people way bigger than me and IDK how they are able to sit in some of the chairs. As another commenter stated shade in the area would be nice too. I know we are asking a lot, expanded seating and shade in the hottest resort of all Disney resorts. You would think that they would realize that a Toy Story themed restaurant would be popular and they should have actual chairs for them to sit and eat at and that maybe they would want to sit in the shade in the middle of the summer in Florida. What they chosen is basically a ride based on a sequel show that we have no idea if it’s going to be popular or not, and with their track record of writing stories recently they stories that are meant for the fans succeeds and the stories made with woke DEI agendas are basically as worse as the controversy of song of the south. It’s funny that the fans like authentic story telling diversity and inclusion instead of forceful unappealing diversity and inclusion. Anyways, with the ride I’m thinking they are putting the cart before the horse. But if they actually do want to actually make it last long with a TV show fandom, how about Phineas and Ferb. It has critters as agents, it’s a popular show, great songs, and there is a little funny gag that combines Splash Mountain with its a small world.

Nobody, absolutely nobody I know has ever associated the attraction or the music with the movie. Not even those who are supposedly affected by it. Maybe it's just because we prefer to spend our weekends with family rather than, like some left-wing activists, binge-watching one "racist" film after another 😂. I would have just left the attraction as it was and put up some info boards to acknowledge the dark past. But whatever. Now, instead of a great attraction, we have the “Mountain of Shame.” Nothing we can do about it now. I just hope the Japanese stay strong and don’t go along with this nonsense.

"problematic" like have you been living under a rock? Everyone knows this is spin now who have studied the film at all. Tony Baxter came down and made his statement about how the attraction was cleared and they worked with the naacp. This is all Iger power tripping to believe the "problematic" narrative.

The difference is, in the old days, WDI and the parks departments, would spend a lot of time on making the temporary seating still as "themed as possible to where they're placed. This is like when Walt got mad about seeing a Spaceman in Frontierland. Your ON STAGE! Would you put a rocket-ship when you're presenting Hamlet?! They just DON'T care. Song of the South is only "problematic" to Iger and his management. Tokyo could keep that ride as the movie is still sold in Japan! They understand that the movie is NOT racist and NEVER WAS! Those who claim it is are blatant brain dead idiots! You make a movie and then a ride, from BLACK folktales passed down by Blacks and yes, collected and written down by a white man, who wanted to save these stories before they vanished. Then Walt took those stories and wove them into a magical movie, the didn't have a single slave in it, nor did it disrespect any black person in the movie. In fact to show how dual faced and bad this organization is, Walt went to the NAACP and had their approval for the movie. It was only later that they went against it to try a drum up money and support. A thing that Mr. Baskett was very sadden by at the end of his life. Removing him from that display, not only removes a movie that Walt was very proud of, spoke highly of Mr. Baskett and pushed to have made, but removes history as Baskett was the first Black man to get an Oscar and one of only two to get a lifetime Oscar.

I guess you want your rebel flags and your confederate monuments too along with Song of the south? Yall dont seem to care about who feels offended by what YOU like. I am a black man who first saw Song of the south as a kid in the 80s and i didnt like it at all. It was very weird and made me feel uncomfortable even back then with the way it portrayed black southern culture. I wasnt sure if it was that way all around the south or not. So I was a bit apprehensive on my first Disney trip to Florida as a kid and when I got to Magic Kingdom and saw that ride, at first all i saw was a fun looking log flume and wanted to get on it. Then I was in the queue and saw the theming and heard the music and just hated they way it made me feel. I never went back. Now at about 50, I am going back on it this weekend with the re-theming for the first time since. I do not care if an Oscar was given for this movie. It makes me and other black people feel UNCOMFORTABLE and demeaned. It does not honor our heritage, but diminishes it. I am glad it is gone and hope Disney continues to purge it. Just bc something existed, does not mean we need to honor or revere it.

We should not celebrate or enjoy it, but we should recognize it happened and the history behind it. And what that history may mean for different types of people in our country. Chatel slavery (and general racism) and america goes hand in hand. Some people get tempertantrums when reminded of this, but so be it at least they and their families were most likely not forced to endure that sort of inter-generational torture. And tbh it makes this country more bad ass to overcome something we relied so heavily upon like that and managed to literally fight it out of the nation and shitty people's rule. Mostly. Granted one could argue prison labor is adjacent to slave labor when theyre forced to risk their lives to fight wildfires for literal dimes an hour. And thats one of the better ones. Not to mention private prison industry and prison labor (for industry) came about in response to the ban on slavery. That and indentured servitude.
