Decided to figure out the 2:00 part today, and I think i got it! Long story short: The overall feel is in half time and lasts for 8 bars total, which is made up of 4 repeats of a 2 bar phrase, where the first bar is played/felt over 16s, and the 2nd bar (mainly beats 1 and 2) is played/felt over 6s. Sit back in the pocket and you'll be fine. Short story long: > In rep1 bar1 16s section (using counting lingo 1e+a), hits are on 1, the a of 1, the a of 2, the a of 3, and the e of 4. Going into bar2, there's a pickup into the 6s rhythm. This bar2 6s phrase is basically played in groups of 4 (with the pickup-downbeat feel, kinda like pataflafla feel) for beats 1 and 2 with hit on 3 and 4. > In rep2 bar1 16s section, it's slightly different and slightly easier to feel and has hits on 1, the a of 1, the + of 2, the + of 3, and on 4. The bar2 part is more or less the same as in rep1. > In rep3 and 4, the bar1 16s section is slightly different again, but more consistent and easiest to feel. There are hits on every 3 16s, so on 1, the a of 1, the + of 2, the e of 3, and on 4. > The rep3 bar2 6s section is similar as before but you can hear him fill in all 6 notes on beat 3. > In rep4 bar2 6s section, the final hit is on the last part of the triplet of beat 4 (aka the 5th note of the sextuplet if you're thinking in 6s). Enjoy!...that is, once you pick up the pieces of your head that exploded after the first time hearing it 😅

Saw Dirty Loops yesterday Live in Paris and they killed it... The house was packed, the sopund absolutely superb (L'Alhambra is an old theater with balcony with a marvelous acoustic). Needless to say the trio was in top form and with the help of a fourth guy on keys whose name I just could not memorize, they played a 1h45 show playing their great songs and some covers which they turned upside down. Who would have thought I'd like Baby Baby Baby by J.Bieber ? But I am not ashamed to say that their version was just so appealing that I found myself head bobbing ! No way hahaha Another great cover was of course Thriller as was Old McDonald Had A Farm (yes!) with that country music rhythm but with Henrik's slap bass it took a whole 'nother turn ! Insane ! If they ever come your way do not hesitate one second or you'll regret it ! They did play the song on that video (Coffee Break Is Over) and I just went nuts ! Dirty Loops should have more albums under their belt considering how long they've been in business and (or) make their 1st (2014) album available on vinyl...

The most laudatory and admiring adjectives, taken at random from the dictionary, can be applied to any of these three musical aliens. I've never seen yet a drummer play almost all his single-stroke rolls in rimshot with such power and such ease. The suppleness of his wrists added to the strength of his strike and the mastery of this playing technique make that he even manages to create a double-sound on his snare drum only with his left hand, as in his final chorus of "Work Shit Out". Absolutely unique, totally mind-blowing and.... downright awesome !

@@MoSkent1 I'm self taught and never learned proper rudiments or rudimentary control, so I really was thinking exactly what you posted. A good example of this is on my channel; my drum cover of Down and Out by Genesis. I too use single strokes masking as various rudimentary rolls, and had to out necessity to match other drummers who were far superior technically than myself. Yes, you have to have very supple wrists as I had to practice these licks on my lap with no benefit of bounce, since I never had a real drum set until well into my twenties, yet had my first studio session as a drummer at the age of 12. Your post is as if I'd posted it myself. Cheers.
@MoSkent14 жыл бұрын
@@slowpokeproductions You know SPP, even if the bounce on your knees wasn't the same as on a pad or a real snare, it was on the contrary a very good school. Like thousands of kids around the world, before owning a real drum-kit and taking lessons, I too started by banging on my bed or the armrests of armchairs, then barrels of washing powder with a saucepan lid as a cymbal ! Maybe Aron Mellergardh started out like us, hitting on whatever he could find ? But not everyone has become the fabulous drummer he's today ! (Funny that you're a Genesis fan too : in their first period, it was one of my favorite bands when I was young and I saw them four times in Paris. With Peter Gabriel in 1975 and three times with Phil Collins in 76 and 77, these last concerts having been recorded for the live double LP "Seconds Out" with Bill Bruford and Chester Thompson. Another time for another style of music....)

2:00 - 2:27 This is a band timing show-off more than a musical statement. Even if you never need this in your own music, it's a good exercise: want to sound as tight as Dirty Loops, everyone in the band needs to be able to play and record that. If you break down what makes Dirty Loops so great, it comes down to the phenomenal time and making it feel good. There are plenty of players in the world who have good technique & fusion arrangement chops but putting it all together, you've got to have amazing timing, consistency, and feel for the whole group. Learn to play that freaky section with your band and you'll end up sounding better than before.

Yeah I think it’s not an accident. Cuz the way they film these videos is not live, they have already recorded them they just have to replicate exactly what they played when they recorded it

these guys r incredible! Henrik is the BEST BASSIST I have ever seen! (the BASS is my favorite instrument) Jonah is an amazing vocalist and awesome keyboard playerand Aron is a fantastic drummer! his rhythm, style and speed is phenomenal! I wonder if Quincy is gonna get off his butt and promote them like he did the Jacksons!
