The thing is that they never even got to pre-production, Netflix ignored Kenny Ortega for a year and then sent him an email saying that they wouldn't be picking up the show for a second season :/

Netflix used Covid as an excuse to do what Netflix likes to do - cancel good shows even though they have a loyal fanbase.

@@4Tom4lepus4 exactly. Covid is a BS excuse when you consider the fact that it didn't stop them from making Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, or Bridgerton, aka their more 'big ticket' shows. Plus, by the time we got the news, the worst of covid was basically over.

The fact that Kenny Ortega said that if he hadn't any chance of renewing show he would reveal the ending and recently on a convention in Brazil he said that Julie and Luke were going to end up together, cause in the last episode on season 1 they not only materialized but also got back to life, so he would've seen his family again

I'm 32 and I watched this series probably 8-10 times. For some reason, it gave me soooo much comfort. Incredibly disappointed that it's not coming back when it had SO much potential 😭 and the music was so good

It’s the fact that Netflix could’ve made so much more money than other shows because the actors actually wanted to go on tour. I don’t know why netflix even decided to cancel a KENNY ORTEGA production considering his resume already.

OMG That's Jeremy Shada playing Reggie! He's best known for playing Finn the Human on Adventure Time for 8 years on Cartoon Network! Also Cheyenne Jackson was at 5:44, he played Dustin Goolsby on Glee, Hades in Descendants 3 and multiple characters on different seasons of American Horror Story.

Disney+ should’ve picked it up I have no idea why it was canceled but it was a very well-liked show and the music got pretty popular. The first three episodes are a little cheesy but the show has so much heart and warmth to it.

Aside from other shows being cancelled, this is when I lost my faith in Netflix. Even through there was so much requests from the fans and actors for another season, A KENNY ORTEGA production, the producer of our childhood, had so much potential, it just wasn't enough for Netflix. Still upset to this day and I wish Disney would pick it up.

I absolutely adored this show although Madison (Julie) is 18 and Charlie (Luke) is 24, if my calculations are correct they are 6-7 years apart. The show came out in September 2020 so Charlie I believe would have been 22 and Madison would have been 16. I’m not saying the age difference is why the show canceled but I definitely think it was ONE of the more bigger concerns. A lot of people say that age is just a number but you also have to think logically about this, it could have been a concern between Madison and Charlie, if there was going to be a season 2 the relationship between Luke and Julie probably would have bloomed more than in season 1 and while I adore this show and the characters, you have to think more of what the actual cast members go through, besides it may be a show with fictional characters but the people who play the characters are going to be different outside of that character (if this makes any sense.) just know and understand that the show might have canceled for further reasons than what’s been given (if any reasons have been given at all.)

Considering the cast were hyping it up and constantly asking and telling people to ask netflix about renewing it, I don't think madi or Charlie were too worried. There was already talk of them waiting to fully establish the relationship until madi turned 18.

Honestly, I wouldn't have even cared if there was a relationship between them besides friends. I wanted more questions answered, Reggie and Alex backstories, the band progressing more, and Charlie talking to his parents again. I understood the age gap problem, shipping the characters and not the actors. Never understood why Netflix cancelled it when it gained a lot of attention and could have hit the Top 10 for a while.

Exactly, bs. Like Outerbanks were one of the last shows to stop filming at the start of covid. Outerbanks was then the first production to start back up filming. They are also location filmed show whereas jatp were a predominantly soundstage show. Meaning the cast and crew would quarantine together to film, like most other shows did. There's no rhyme or reason with netflix. They randomly cancel shows and then hold the rights hostage so it can't be picked up by other companies.

@@Beautiful_rgyb I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SECOND SEASON *SO MUCH!😭😭* Jesus Netflix, *why?* They have cancelled so many good shows recently, one of them including Dead End Paranormal Park, a wonderful animated show. And they cancelled it! It makes me so freaking mad because the last episode of the second season ended on a cliffhanger and now we’ll likely never get an answer or a solid ending to the show. There was so much more they could’ve done. Same with Julie and the Phantoms! Ugh this is just so frustrating…
