I’ve been there. With my high school sweetheart. From 15 years to 28, with 2 separations. The last time was the first time I actually realized I wasn’t in love with him for years and when I had to go back and figure out our living situation…it had only been a week or 2 and the amount of complete garbage, sickness, and depression in the air was the hardest thing I’ve even done. That complete and final acceptance in his eyes, while denying it is something I will never be able to heal from. I know now that we’re both in so much more beautiful people with healthy relationships, causing that pain onto him…I still have nightmares about it, 11 years later.

Yes, the delay of the "FOR YOU" always gets me because It changes the whole meaning of " My heart won't start anymore", She's saying she would still fall in love and love again but not with the person. Also the delivery and choice of singing and mood is... Incredible.

One of the many things that kills me about the song is the soft use of vocoder. One of the criticisms she received for Reputation was the “overuse” of vocoder, especially for the songs that were about Joe. For her to say goodbye to that relationship using the same effect hits really hard.

The way you explained your situation is EXACTLY how i envision it was for Taylor. When they got together she was at a very low point and he was what she needed and wanted and he was good for her. But she grew as a person and changed and he didn't grow and change in the same direction. Literally grew apart. Obviously, I dont KNOW this, but it's the impression I get and, like you, have lived this before. Thanks for sharing your story!

Yes that's also my point of view. Everyone was trashing Joe when to me it sounds more like he was not toxic and the relationship just didn't work anymore... Regardless, we don't know what their relationship really was like and we shouldn't feel legitimate to share our opinions on her boyfriends

The song was first released as a bonus track on The Late Night Edition of Midnights in May. The CD-only edition was only available for in-person purchase at certain venues of the Eras Tour for a limited time, following which it was widely pirated on social media. It was released to music streaming services on November 29 as a token of gratitude to her fans after she was revealed as Spotify's Global Top Artist of 2023. Jack Antonoff, her co-writer, revealed the song was written and recorded on the same day TWO YEARS AGO, which made fans question if she and Joe had already broken up at that point. But it's more likely that they hit a rough patch and were able to overcome it. I think they just drifted apart. The song has 103 beats per minute, the right tempo for hands-only CPR. Interestingly it is also the second song of Taylor's to feature the sample of her own heartbeat - the first being Wildest Dreams.

This song was actually written in December of 2021. The same 'session' that "Midnight Rain" "Bejeweled" "Anti-Hero" "You're On Your Own Kid" + a couple more midnights tracks were recorded. I'm also pretty sure "Labyrinth" was written AFTER this song, so the "Uh-oh, I'm falling in love - again" has a whole new meaning, same with "Sweet Nothing".

I’m in a unique position where I broke up with my fiancé during COVID lockdown after 6 years together. We were both having such a hard time and falling apart individually. This song brings me back to that. We went our separate ways and kept in touch for 2 years, then reunited as new happy, healthy people with the same chemistry from the beginning. We’ve been married for 2 years now.

Let me just tell you as a debut swiftie who has been here through the different creative projects she's done, this one hit me so hard- I can't listen to it without crying, whenever I need a good cry I will turn this one on lol. We loved the room because of the light reminds me of looking at a relationship in its early years thinking it was love with ease at first and then it slowly gets heavier as you realize the relationship got harder and more complicated maybe because of different needs and places in life. I also LOVE Marjorie because I lost my grandma, and I know what it's like to have all the questions you still can't get the answers to because now they're gone. I love that Marjorie gets to travel the world with Taylor and I can't explain it but artisticly she writes these really complex emotions so well. She's my comfort artist for sure. I also LOVED Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour album, maybe if that's not something you have done in your content that you may be interested in reviewing?

Some people are drawn to people when they are down. Then they can be the hero. Their self esteem can't handle their partner succeeding. It's sick, but that tear she hid and just relied on him was probably the best time in their relationship - for him. Once she started healing, and was no longer dependent on him - then I think their relationship started breaking down. I don't think he's a bad person, and I think he's at war with himself if he recognized what he was doing. That's my opinion. Some of that is through the lens of my own experiences.

What an awful lot of folks overlook is that at the time the relationship WASN'T over and still had over a year to run before it was publicly dead. My personal thoughts are that Taylor was really, really f***ing pissed at Joe as she gets angrier and angrier in the bridge. She was also approaching her birthday and we know what happened back in 2012 then. Don't forget we are only seeing one side of the story here; she the Global Megastar, Joe the jobbing actor over a year younger than Taylor. All that said I think it is a brilliant song and put it well into top 20. Another thought was that this was a cri de cœur about the direction of the relationship. That she wrote and recorded it with Jack Antonoff shows he was confidante to her as well. Look at the tense it is present, not past: this is a breaking up song, NOT a break up song which reinforces in my mind that she was still looking for answers.
@clansome
@clansome 11 ай бұрын
Also another thought is she is leaving gaps in the lines that Joe wasn't wholly "to blame" either. What is the exclamation STOP for? Is it a "don't bother fighting for me" "You're Losing Me". We'll never, EVER know the real reason. Joe isn't the same status as Taylor so he won't say, and naturally Taylor would say "Listen to the lyrics". Something else, why did she write "I wouldn't marry me either", "A PPP" She is admitting in those 2 lines that she IS just as much at fault, sure other things are coming into play but it essentially both are at fault. Maybe this is the opposite of the Dear John scenario where she sadly she IS realising that she has to carry a portion of the blame. I could argue this forever but ultimately I just want to hear her sing this utterly brilliant song once again, after all she will NEVER sing this song again.

This song Kills me. It takes me back to a time when the love of my life completely burned me in a business we were in together. "My face was grey but you wouldn't admit we were sick, and "My heart won't start again... for You." There hasn't been anything more painful for me than being so in love with someone, for seven years, and feeling my love die over the course of six months. You're Losing Me was originally going to be in the Midnights album but it had to be go to the other 3AM Edition (I believe) it wasn't on streaming services until late November which i believe is a reference to Call It What You Want from the Reputation album which was about Joe Alywn Taylor's lover from the time Joe and Taylor were together for a very long time about 6 years he was seen in Miss Americana, the whole Reputation and Lover album (most*) were about Joe You're Losing Me was also written in 2021 which was post Folklore and her 9th studio album Evermore but Pre Midnights so the breakup would have just started At the Eras Tour when she performed Lover one time she was very emotional but a clip showed she looked annoyed and didn't seem to care about the song so she's moved on

I was acting like that in my part mainly because I just don't want Taylor to go through things again like what she went through before when breakups come in easily for her years/decade ago before Joe even happened to her- like I was scared of the media speculating about everything like her love life is a sport, they'll probably start to mock her for not keeping a man for good or she's gonna write another breakup album again, calling her a man hater or slvt/wh0re and stuff, it's just traumatic- some of you wouldn't get it cuz you weren't there (2011-2018 ESPECIALLY 2013-2016 like those years are nuts). BUT queen mother humbled me, Taylor made sure to let us know what really happened and she trusted us- my god the complete 180 of my beliefs after hearing 'You're Losing Me' in late May is funny but worth it at the same time. Then after hearing this song, I looked back on the past 4 albums we had from her with Joe beside her in that timeframe and wow, everything made sense like it showed me how gaslit I was and maybe her as well in that relationship that we witnessed all this time. I liked Joe cuz when almost everything went south in her career, she was at her lowest- he was there BUT that happenstance may also be the catalyst of how this relationship went down (in flames jk) aka the victim/savior complex... okay idk what I'm saying here but somehow Taylor has this imagery of Joe as her 'knight in shining armor'- "he saved her from the darkness, great! happily ever after" but that wasn't the case here, with this mindset of Taylor plus Joe's demanding attitude or aura (cuz idk what really happened but it felt like the demand is in Joe's favor in this) Taylor will tend to bend under his will (listen to willow, Joe really got her chase him and will do anything to get him) and adjust everything, her lifestyle and whatnot, in her power just to be with this man cuz this man doesn't want the life she's always been in, the scale of how magnified Taylor's life is as a celebrity/artist. In hindsight, we didn't know any of this and thought oooohhh Taylor is so in love and this is the endgame wow... but looking back now? it's just sad and aching to see Taylor looking like she's begging for him to stay, she did everything to make it work even staying with him where no one else can see them like they're hiding from everyone (ngl in the first 1-2 years of their relationship, Taylor needed that because of how her reputation shattered by the media and everyone in 2016-17 but eventually, she healed and go back to what her intended lifestyle and how she makes the whole place shimmer), she even avoided the idea of marriage (lavender haze) when 3 years in their relationship she's already dropping hints in his face my god (lover, paper rings, end game, i think he knows, willow, PEACE ugh i could go on) yet hE STILL WON'T COMMIT! idk what's his problem tbh, maybe he loved her when she was in her worst but honey, this is Taylor Swift- she will always rise from the ashes like a fckng phoenix and he broke that in her, she said she's tired even tho she's a phoenix- tired of sticking her neck out in this relationship with him doing nothing at all. The love they had was real at some point until Joe realized she's much bigger than this and she can be bigger than the last time he checked, he chickened out- he felt hesitant at some point in that 6-year relationship cuz he didn't want her way of living and it's inevitable that she will go back in the spotlight... she outgrew him. I think Taylor realized she's better than this and she finally knew her self-worth to get away from this "stuck in the middle of nowhere, suffocating, and dying in the vine" relationship and you know what? good for her because I believe that in the name of LOVE, no one should be contained (feelings or validity of existence) it's love- not a possession... love is about GROWING, makes each other be seen and help each other to grow in their lives and NOT stuck in a box waiting to rot. I wanted to be kind to Joe but my god it almost felt like he wasted her time (6 years, 6 YEARS? and she thought they were gonna be end game), he led her on and left her hanging apparently. I'm just happy Taylor is in a very different place now, she's happy and that's all that matters to me. Thanks for coming in my TedTalk lol

she actually wrote this song over a year before they broke up, it wasn't in the original version because she thought they would get better, and then she only put this song on one special edition of a vinyl
