Yeah, they put three songs from superbia in the movie: lcd readout (the one he sings in front of Stephen Sondheim), sextet (the one sung in the superbia rehearsals in the movie that talks about face awards) and of course come to your sense although the style was slightly changed because of Alexandra's (susan) r&b background

I absolutely love how Susan (Alexandra Shipp) and Karessa (vanessa hudgens) have two different styles of presenting. Susan is vulnerable, broken, and at her last straw trying to get through to jonathan to keep the hope of saving their love, which is what jon realises too little too late. Karessa is simply performing a song she's just learnt and doesn't fully understand the weight that the message of the song bears to jonathan, so she's just performing in her stage persona.

Knew you would love the song. In regard to the different singing styles of the two actresses, Susan (Alexandra Shipp) is singing directly to Jonathan about their deteriorating relationship and is showing all of the emotions that she's feeling. Karessa (Vanessa Hudgens) is performing the song at a workshop for potential show backers so while she can act through the song as required, she doesn't have the total emotional investment that Susan does. Even so, the ladies are just terrific and the song itself is just too good. Did you notice Bradley Whitford as Stephen Sondheim? That one pose with his head tilted and one hand on his chin absolutely captures the great man.

The perfect explanation of why they have both different emotions while singing the song. Audrey is misjudging Vanessa’s performance because she haven’t seen the movie during this reaction. I suggest she needs to first to see the whole movie before reacting to every song clip so she would not be clueless to what’s happening in the scene. Both girls are equally talented and great perfomers as well. Just my thoughts. 😊😊😊

Thank you for this. I know nothing about singing but I'm an editor which requires a very deep understanding of sound (not flattering myself at all, it's just a fact. It took time for me to get here) so I understood every note you gave and I will try to apply them when I sing that at home. Now, regarding the difference in tone - it's interesting that you pointed it out because I think they chose these two girls who are very different vocally on purpose, not so we would COMPARE them to each other but so we would CONNECT them to each other. Story wise, Susan is the heart of Johnathan's creation, he's writing FOR her, but beautifully, he writes THROUGH Karessa. Lyn himself said that Karessa was Johnathan's muse, and not to say that Susan is less important but Karessa is the gateway to his true emotion, his true love, the end of the road - Susan. If you notice, Susan sings first but in reality it's Karessa who's singing the first words. Through her, he opens up and is able to listen to his inner voice. Hence - come to your senses. I think it's fascinating because I've watched hundreds of films and serieses so far and I don't think I've ever seen a boy or a girl who acts as the mediator in a love triangle (which doesn't have to be romantic, by the way). And it's brilliant to create this connection between them BECAUSE they sound so different, and not IN SPITE of it. They sound different because they're two different women with two strong, complex personalities and through different you always find the similarities. Vanessa is difficult for me to fall in love with, maybe because of that very dumb, unnecessary comment about covid which she actually realized and I do believe she regrets, or maybe because of what I just talked about - maybe our differences are just as big as the things that connect us as women, I don't know her enough to know that, but I have to defend her here and say that she has a very specific training and it's hard to let go of it after 15 years. Her role is complex and she's handling it well I think. Acting can always be improved and learned but I feel like she as Karessa is trying her best to respect her friend Johnathan's song AS IT WAS WRITTEN. She loves him very deeply but she's not in love with him, so in a way, her singing is more clean rather than less emotional. I know Susan has more depth to her in this song, but think of Karessa as an artist - it takes courage to say no to your instinct to be in the front and take a step back to allow the song to shine. To allow Johnathan to shine. I think it was comforting for John, it was an act of love on Karessa's part and that's the only way she knows how to express it. It was a surprise, and Vanessa has an insane talent in my eyes, even if it's harder for me to relate to her as a person. I can't deny her magic, and I shouldn't. I know it's very long so to who ever listened all the way through this message - thank you and please tell me what you think. Please.

Another vocal teacher here! One of the very best things you can practice, if nothing else, is proper breathing. It doesn't have to be a formal rehearsal, you can practice when you're in the car, watching TV, falling asleep, etc. You want to control your breath so your stomach is what rises and falls, instead of your chest. Breathing lower creates more air, and is more long term (it's the same reason you start hyperventilating when you take too many short, quick breaths). You'd be surprised how much of your technique will improve when your breath support does. It might not have a huge effect right away, but keep practicing that breath like you're building a muscle, and you should see a change. Another couple things you can practice doing are opening your mouth (more than you would while speaking naturally, think overexaggerated pronunciation and practice in front of a mirror) and balancing your notes. For low notes, lift your cheekbones a little bit, like you're smiling, and it should make them lighter and easier. For high notes, make sure to put some weight in your chin and jaw so the note doesn't get too bright and nasally. Breath and balance are two of the biggest things you can practice for immediate results. If you have any questions about any of that, lmk. (I also teach voice lessons over video chat, if anyone is interested! Google "Bella Music Studios Covina" for my info)

Hi I only found your channel like today, but I'm already hooked. Your so enthusiastic! I love it! If you'd like, could you maybe look at songs from the movie I saw the light? It is a biopic of American country singer Hank Williams and while it is different than other songs or genres you tend to cover (although I've seen only a grasp of your videos), I'm curious to see what a vocal coach can tell me about these songs and how the actor sings them. Lovesick blues is amazing, and jodeling 😅, move it on over is really interesting, because the female singer is supposed to be bad at singing, but just good enough to not be horrible... And basically all the other songs are amazing. So I don't know if you'll like it or will cover these songs/movie, but I hope so, because I am so loving these songs and Hank Williams in general, although my mom strongly disafrees, and I think more people should know his songs.. Thanks for reading this and have a great day!

The original song wasn't a duet. It was a solo. They made it a duet for the movie as a way to differentiate the two characters

Audrey, If you do a cover for this song, Come to your Senses, you can Google the original lyrics that Jonathan Larson wrote, and see that Tick,Tick, Boom, cut this song short and there are some wonderful lyrics missing that you may want to add back in.
