Great reaction. They have definitely thrown some ska in with the metal for this one, as you said. It isn't a song that gets enough reactions and it should get more, it is great fun and the choreo is spot on. The Kami Band for this one were Mikio Fujioka (RIP), Takayoshi Ohmura (with his pink glittery guitar), BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. This performance was at the Big Fox Festival in October 2017 and was the last time Yuimetal (on Su-metal's right - or our left as we look at them) performed with BABYMETAL. She withdrew at the last minute before their next big shows in December 2017 under doctor's advice and she missed the 2018 tour. They held her place in the hope and expectation that she would recover from whatever was wrong with her (nobody knows - or those who do aren't saying - what that was, but her movements in this were a lot more stiff than we were used to seeing from her), but she announced in October 2018 that she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band and hoped to follow her own long held dreams.

“Blending all the genres together” BabyMetal: Hai!!! Never 2 songs that are the same. You asked why some hate BabyMetal. Their reasons…. 1. BabyMetal wasn’t formed organically but by their producer Key Kobayashi. 2. They don’t play instruments & write their own songs. 3. Some say they can’t get pass their voices 4. Choreographed dancing 5. Too polished, corporate product…. A gimmick. Tbh, I don’t understand any of those criticisms. I was never a “Metal” fan. But since discovering BabyMetal, I’ve dived deeper into Metal and realized there are some really amazing music.

@@facundsrodrixxx she does. And Moa has said she doesn’t practice nearly enough. The criticism is that they don’t play instruments as a band. You have the most unique intro to Babymetal discography. All 4 songs you have chosen are fantastic pieces that are not usually how many reactors get exposed to the group (with Megitsune as possible exception). Yava in particular is a great yet underrated song. Like you said it is a full on blend of different genres, at least 3 in my count. It also has my all-time favorite choreographed dance during the Pip Popa Popip Popa Popi refrain. So I guess it's time you watch those other "typical" videos for reaction too? Anyhow, you can't go wrong with Road of Resistance, Headbanger and Karate. Just remember Babymetal is best experienced live. Enjoy your journey down the Fox Hole!

You mentioned about liking how the guitar and keyboard bounce off each other but actually if you look, Takayoshi (pink sparkly guitar) is down the 'guitar' while Mikio (guitarist far left) is doing the 'keyboard', so I guess it's just a different tone on the guitar.
@paulbenwell35603 жыл бұрын
So much to unpick here.. for fans this is a moving video and it features 2 great guitarists master and pupil in Mikio and Omhura. Even more special is Mikio sadly died at the end of 2017 and I believe the guitar he plays here is the one Omhura now plays. Omhura himself in this video is playing his legendary pink-chan (yes it has a name) - the sparkly one as you called it. Most fans consider this line up (with BOH in bass and Hideki on drums) to be the quintessential line up. As always the girls dancing is spot on, they are choreographed by the great MIKIKO who is one of Japan;'s most talented choreographers (she was a production consultant for Japan's cultural presentation at the 2016 Summer Olympics closing ceremony). And yes one reason many fans considered them a breathe of fresh air is that they a) mix EVERY style of metal music into their songs (power, thrash, black, prog) and b) pull musical influence from every culture (their latest albums pulls from swedish, thai, indian and a whole raft more). This really means every BM song is utterly unique.

The girls are like "Yeah, We can do it..." they can mix it up so well. It is a very modern take on Metal. They have at least 2 writers plus it is a big team effort in Japan, they all have input until the final cut. That is how it seems to fit so well, they all smooth out the spots that don't fit and by the time it is done it is super refined and flows perfectly on every front. The singer has been on stage since age 5 and everyone else is also super processional, just think by the time she was 16 she had 11 years of stage experience.
@egorbubnov99893 жыл бұрын
Yes! Heavy riffs, original SKA vibes, incredible choreography (with excellent performance from all the girls). Many changes and at the same time the harmony and integrity of the composition (it was very interesting to hear your opinion from this point of view as a songwriter, and I completely agree). Perhaps this is my favorite Babymetal song. I think it's the best choreography here, but I also love it in my playlist because there are some incredible (for me) moments in Su's vocals where her specific pronunciation just blows my mind every time. And those who do not like Babymetal, no matter what the reasons are called, are simply jealous. And this, alas, is normal. The genre war has been going on in heavy music for over half a century, and everyone wants to prove that their tastes are better. And not everyone is ready to accept that Babymetal is simply "outside" this struggle. Just as I will always remain a fan of thrash metal, I can put Babymetal first for their contribution to modern music and absolutely love them, while at the same time understanding and feeling even more my "favorite" band ("Holy Moses"). I actually listen to them much more often after I discovered Babymetal. And over time, I am more and more convinced that Babymetal is not just music, it is a performance of music, more like a rock opera (metal opera?). Or (and) a magnificent diamond (vocals and choreo) in an incomparable jewelry frame of metal music.

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Kamis are all remarkable session musicians and they also paly in their own bands or other activities. The 3 girls once said like "We feel we have been protected all the time by Kami band" and Kamis said "The girls took us to stages in the world, outside of Japan. We have nothing but gratitude towards them". The good relation between Kamis and Su / Moa has remained intact. In a recent video uploaded in KZbin, BOH (bass) and Ohmura (guitar) mentioned how excellent "the two persons" were and how much they loved and respected "the two persons". They said so 2 days after the finial show of 10 BABYMETAL Budokan concerts on April 15. They have a gag order about relation with BABYMETAL, but you can know what "the two persons" meant.

And without the Kami band Babymetal wouldn't have been as successful at stages like Sonisphere, UK or Loud Park, Japan.
@Slytherkins3 жыл бұрын
The most common complaint I hear is that the girls and the Kami Band don't write the music, they just perform it, so they 'aren't really a band'. And y'know, yeah, they are a production, I'm just not sure why that's such a big deal to some people. The final product is freakin amazing. The songs are good, the stage production is good, the performance is good. Just because it's not 'pure', not the singular vision of the people on stage and them alone, doesn't mean it doesn't still have value or is not enjoyable. Glad you reacted to this one. Karate is awesome, but Yava doesn't get nearly enough attention.
@MattFarkas3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a purist attitude, which I don't agree with. Just because the songwriter (or songwriters) doesn't actually play in the band doesn't take away from his/her writing skill or the skill of the performers. It's a team effort!
@autohmae3 жыл бұрын
Broadway, etc. productions and movies are considered by many some high standard. And the people on stage didn't write it, etc. Their is still a lot of influence from the girls in Babymetal, I feel many songs are written 'in their voice'. But maybe more importantly: the girls started so early in Babymetal of course they could not write authentic metal music. So without other people to do that Babymetal couldn't exist.

There are groups that have spent years trying to make sludgy ska metal sound good, and BABYMETAL pulls it off the first time. And then moved on to the next thing. : ) Even with the translation it's hard to know exactly what this song is about. As Du-Metal says on his translation page, "The meaning of the lyrics is vague, obscure & ambiguous." Written by some of the same folks involved with 'Megitsune', etc. Lyrics were by NAKAMETAL (Norikazu Nakayama), MK-METAL (Miki Watanabe) and KxBxMETAL (Kei Kobayashi). Music was by NORiMETAL (also Norikazu Nakayama) with an arrangement by YUPPEMETAL (Takehiro Mamiya) aka Yuyoyuppe.

"YAVA!" is one of my favourite songs, it just has a great, uplifting mood, and choreography is very entertaining. While BABYMETAL's music and performances are always fun to listen to and watch, I don't think that means that they are not serious. The lyrics often have quite serious messages. I think the people who say they are just a gimmick without any seriousness don't even bother to take a closer look. But to be honest, I don't care about those people too much anymore. Most of the time it's pretty obvious that their hostility is based on ignorance and lies, and in the end it's their own loss.

The first guitar solo is from Mikio Fujioka, who died in January 2018 following a tragic accident. This was soon after Yui left, at first temporarily, for health reasons. YAVA! is a very nice catchy ska-metal song, many fan girls like it. YAVA! means like "Oh no!" is like an expresión of surprise or terrifying. Fans first want to name the song as "Chigau" but that didn't happened. Kami Band intro is one of the very few, you can hear Míkio-sama guitar solo here, R.I.P. Every musician is top notch, drummer Hideki Aoyama is son of another legend, all of them transform into Kami Band the moment they go to performance with the girls, is like a switch inside of them, same for the girls of course. 🦊🤘 Yeah man, too bad there are still people not willing to appreciate BM songs, i know metal is related since its roots to many bad or negative feelings, but even the most metalish legends got their root full of fun and crazyness like Ozzy Osbourne for example, but they took music and heavy metal as a way to having fun with creepyness and fear, so it really make no senses people discard BM just to think not fit their stereotypes. I mean come on dude, you're missing really good stuff just for what your "social metal elitish" partners think of it? If only they knew even their rock and metal legends love to watch and support BM. There's definitely a ska vibe to this, but why not? BM just love exploring genres and that's part of why their fans love them. I put YAVA (translated as OMG) together with Awadama Fever as I think they are both about difference and not necessarily being confined by other people's expectations. The YAVA lyrics mention "different" over 20 times. Is it about Babymetal and their music being different, Moa and Yui being different even though people seem to think they are twins or just about clothes?...who knows? What it is, is some up tempo metal/ska and a lot of fun with some great choreography and a really heavy breakdown. The Kami intro takes the song over the top. I suggest that you now look at Road of Resistance Live at Saitama Arena.

impossible to please everyone. There will always be haters no matter what music you play. It's quite normal. In fact, the fan base for baby metal extends far beyond the metal community. For example, I never listened to heavy music at all and didn’t particularly trudge from it. And I really liked baby metal right away. I will say even more. This band is a bridge between worlds. After listening to it, I started listening to some other heavy bands as well. I began to understand heavy music better. In fact, the world leaders in metal, such as metallica and slipknot, have recognized Baby Metal. Because they understand the concept. Rejected usually by narrow-minded fans who live by their own patterns and do not have enough freedom of thought to discard prejudices. They are like old grumbling old people who are no longer able to accept something new.

YAVA is a variation of the adjective "yabai (やばい、ヤバイ)" in Japanese. Yabai is a slang word that means bad, and cool etc. And it is often used by younger generations now in Japan. Anyway, the music itself is well done, isn't it? It is the 4th song of their 2nd album, so I think it is originally a representative song of BABYMETAL, but it seems that it is not so popular overseas. so it is a shame. I love Karate, Awadama, and this, like all of three better than ROR from their second album. It goes well with the lyrics and starts lightly with Ska rhythm, but as the lyrics get more serious, the song gets heavier and dark vibes. I love it. Thank you from Japan.

Still (from translations) my favourite Babymetal lyrics. I forget sometimes how playful and clever (and meaningfull) the lyrics can be. And definitely one of my top choreographed tracks too. Dear Mr "Cuteness personified". look at Babymetal dancing and hang your head in shame. It's one of many Babymetal songs I want to learn phonetically so I can sing along. But I'd rather sing actually understanding the meaning. And that's a whole lot harder. So I just improvise. Badana oy um na on um or uh su... etc. Painful. But it keeps me entertained. Love the song, good reaction. And on the concept of it "not being serious enough", I have listened (one time only) to some fairly hard-core metal. And to me that stuff is hilarious. Because it takes itself so seriously and yet has such a pretentious, ridiculous narrow-minded approach to music and life. I think any Metalheads hating Babymetal are most likely doing so because they realise that what they are so invested in is just utter nonsense.

Good reaction. You can see why they pick the video for you so you can enjoy the Solo in the beginning. This was Peak Babymetal in 2017 during the Fox Festival after this things changed. Yui left after this and mikio the first guitars doing the harmonics passed away at the beginning of 2018 from a freak accident. The Fox Festival is also the last time the Kami band did solos. Their next concert in December 2017 the Kami band was in dark robes with dark backgrounds they stayed this way for another year with no solos. 2019 they started with mask on so you can't see them. 2020 they were basically put to the back and use a completely different and boring band for their tours outside the country. In 2021 they now have them at all four corners of the stage on the floor and out of sight with their masks on. Imagine a show that says "metal" but then don't see the band.. It's more Baby than Metal now. Should just change the name to >BABY

Probably most of the people that hate Babymetal, only ever listened to "Gimme Chocolate", and if you stop at that I can understand why people might say that they are not metal. But they have demonstrated to be much more than that! You should also react to that if you never herd it, since It's the song that made them known to the world, went viral in 2014/15 and made Sonisphere move them to the main stage in 2014 thus giving them a lot of visibility in UK and internationally! Good choice for Yava!, is one of my favourites! If you also want to do Karate in the near future, Live from Download 2016 is a good choice since it's safe for react and doesn't need any watermark! "I like BABYMETAL quite a bit..." *headbangs in assent* To me, they are the Oakenfold of metal...better, even.

thanks for the nice reaction, i love prog rock/metal it's one of the reasons that i love babymetal since theyre such a great prog metal band the main music style to form the basis of this song including the intro by kamiband would be ska rather than reggae kamiband play a very nice reggae part in the song called '4 no uta' (song 4) tho ;)

Yeah, I couldn’t help but think of Gwen Stefani when I listen to this song :-)

Except for Megitsune, you've been skirting their most popular songs. Not a problem with that since most of their songs are great.

Great comments about metal elitists sneering at Babymetal and taking it all too seriously and not accepting that metal can be fun. The elitists always end up looking like such stuffy bores who can't accept something new and different from what they are used to .
