Everyone is doing a reaction video and then Roomie does one and I finally watch it... binge this song over and over and realize it’s not just a literal driver’s license. It’s a metaphor for having the freedom, the ability to move past it, to drive away. Like you’ve been a passenger in someone else’s story who wasn’t right for you and now you have the license to finally drive away. And now I’m weeping because it reminds me of the days I would lay awake in bed when CDs were the best we had, with songs on repeat to listen to the poetry of song lyrics blended with musical artistic storytelling... which then brings me back to 2004, 16 going on 17, when we had this project for English class when we were covering poetry, and I took it so seriously that the teacher said I was the only one who did it right. That’s what this song has brought back to me. My love for the poetry and artistry of music itself and it not being this thing that has become simple entertainment to pass the time. Music with vulnerability. She’s SUCH a Pisces, I looked it up. The dreamy-ness and poetics. Yes. Olivia. Yesss.
