Hi Lexi! Great and extremely thorough description, demo and review of the new Keyaki set as well as the original set. This new set is a necessary complement to the original set. I love the short handles on the original set - and I am sure I will prefer the shrorter jumbo base brush as I need to use a 10X mirror so the shorter the handle the better. Congrats on the gift from Sonia G and Beautylish! They knew you’d do a great job!

Lexi, amazing review on the second Keyaki mini brushes!! I have the first one and I love using it for home and travel. I do love the shorter handles. So many brushes I don’t know how you can remember all of them but great job in comparing all of them. @@LexiJong Excellent, comprehensive review with great advice and tips, thanks Lexi! As I have both the keyaki sets & the lotus set, I feel my brush collection is complete now! Plus 4 Chanel brushes. Question, the white undyed goat hair brushes, if using with creams/liquid shadows or cheek stains, does it stain the brushes after you've washed them? I've just used them with powders for fear of this happening eg the eye brushes from the original keyaki set? I agree the travel sets are great for close up work when you wear glasses, why I love them! They're so comfortable and light in the hand too.

@@sukhilatif5431 I haven't had any staining with creams or liquids but I wash mine pretty soon after use. I find that when something doesn't seem to be coming off all the way, using the Beauty Blender black soap or Fels Naptha fixes it and makes the bristles look brand new. The only brushes I have trouble with staining are synthetics though.

I recently fell down the Sonia G rabbit hole, and I ADORE this set! I love the shorter handles as I feel they offer me more control. I feel it's really good value as the brushes can be used everyday or for travel. I'm waiting for the Fusion Series to be back in stock as I mainly use cream products. Love your videos, Lexi!

Excellent review!! I loved the 2 face brushes from the original! For my eyes, these 2 eye brushes are slightly better for me. I never buy a set of any fude lines as I never have use for the whole set. The first keyaki I gifted the 3 eye brushes but I will keep this whole set! All quite delightful. To note: The two eye brushes are not as big as I prefer in general but will be useful for travel. If you like bigger crease brushes then this crease is on the thinner side, even after washing. I find SG eye brushes on the small side. I did recently get the detail pro and love it but it seems bigger than her typical. This crease brush is half to one-third the width for comparison wrt how many fibers bundled.

speaking of purchases, i’m super tempted by this set! i don’t have any Sonia G and love the wooden handles 😍. i think i would have loved the 1st set of these too. if i don’t wear foundation typically would the larger brush still work well for bronzers and cream blushes? i think the second one would be great for cream contour. help talk me into or out of this set 🤣 i just got the KJH set for more creams and detailed eye work but that’s full synthetic so.. still different 🤓 the ltd releases make it hard to wait too long 😅

Yes the larger one is one of my most used brushes and I usually use it for all of my cream face products so I have less to wash. The KJH are much airier and better for thinner consistencies imo. These are better for something a little firmer or creamier imo. I personally love this set so if you decide to purchase it, please let me know what you think. The KJH has a ton of eye brushes that will complement this set well imo.

regarding the Jumbo Worker, you brought out the KZ-6 to compare. how does the FO-5 compare?

The FO-5 is similar to the KZ-6 but the bristles are a bit longer and stiffer vertically. It is also a bit more narrow. Overall compared to the jumbo worker, the brush is a bit longer and it is softer with a bit more movement.

Lexi, what do you think…can the fusion brushes, instead of liquid or cream or foundations, be used for primers, even oil based primers?? Do you think the oils would gunk it up terribly, requiring a bath after each use? I don’t use wet foundations. I use powders over an oily face. Thank you!

I think the fusion brushes would work for that. I would still wash every few uses but I wash my brushes more than what is recommended.

Ive been thinking about this set for quite some time. On beautylish there’s a review that says these brushes are awful and not at all like Sonia Gs normal brushes. I am considering purchasing the SoniaG travel set series 2 I am on a limited income based on being 67, I am using more cream eyeshadows, I am very petite also, need to be close the mirror, which other brushes would I also need to lay down the cream eyeshadow all over my eyelid, I have gotten myself confused first time with her purchases. If you prefer shorter handle brushes, you might like the Chikuhodo T series. It is undyed goat hair and can be used with any products. I think for all over cream shadow, a shader brush is best or one of the Sonia G worker brushes. The Chikuhodo T7 and T12 are nice for applying cream shadow. From Sonia G, I would recommend the Fusion Worker or the new Fundamental Worker M (although these handles will be longer than the travel set). The Fusion worker is smaller so it depends what size you want to use on your lid. The Worker M is large enough for all over color and wide enough to buff in the crease area a bit. I think her soft shader and worker pro brushes are also good options and they are in between the size of the Worker M and the Fusion Worker (closer to fusion worker though). I would take a look at all of these brushes and pick the one that you think works best with your particular eye shape. If I had to pick just one for all over cream shadow, I would go with the Worker M because of its size and the width of it adds more versatility. If you find you need another brush down the line, you could go with something a smaller like the T12 which is great for smudging eyeliner and shadow on the lower lash line as well as laydown on the lid in small areas or the worker pro which is a smaller version of the Worker M.

Sonia G is only at Beautylish so the best time to buy those are when they are doing their gift card event (twice a year you get a $20 gift card for every $100 you spend). For Chikuhodo brushes, Beautylish carries some but you can get better prices from some direct stores; however, then there is a shipping cost so it really can vary. Fude stores you can purchase through are Fude Beauty, Fude Bobo, Fude Japan, CDJapan, and Chikuhodo now has a direct site as well. I would keep an eye on Fude Beauty and Chikuhodo as they sometimes have a free shipping promotion around this time of year. Fude Bobo has some great discounts that can offset the shipping cost. It's a new store so there is a 10% off grand opening discount and if you sign up for emails, you can get an additional discount.
