I've been a Smart Limit user for quite some time, yet I still purchased this and I think it's fantastic. I have a number of clients and projects for whom everything has to be done yesterday, and I love processors that get me to an acceptable result in record time. Pure Limit is the bees knees for those situations. I'm happy to have both arrows in the quiver...

Worth checking for your limiter distortion research: ozone maximizer IRC 3 or 4 transient with character all the way up at 10. Very, very low distortion. Checking IMD is also important for that. Plug-in doctor has it in the harmonic analysis tab

I agree with this 100%. I have a plugin folder (just copies basically) that is just Quick Go-To's. All it is is basic simple stuff with very low CPU so i can just get my general idea shaped. Ill go back and replace everything and fine tune later. For something like this, like, Loudmaxx gets the job done but this is pretty cheap so I'll consider it.

Maybe worth mentioning: As soon as I add the plugin to my master channel in a GarageBand session (doesn't matter if pure:limit is activated or not) I get some latency on all channels when I record audio or midi - to an extent that I can't really record anything with good timing. It runs on a MB Pro M1 laptop in native mode and "Monterey" OS. Other plugins don't have the same problem here. So I recommend to finish all your recording work *before* you add the plugin to any channel of your session.
@akagerhard Жыл бұрын
actually looks usable. Is it very CPU-friendly? I'm thinking like a CPU friendly, yet good enough limiter to simply put on your master in production to "produce into" and take off at the end. But that's only reasonable if it is very CPU-friendly, otherwise I don't really see the point.
@andruanderson2220 Жыл бұрын
It is actually quite an in-depth AI plugin :) But you do need to read the manual to get the best out of it, and understand the philosophy behind the plugin. Personally I do like Sonible plugins and have most of them. I use this to compare with other mastering limiters etc... However, like all good tools it does take more than 5 or 6 minutes to actually understand it. For example I compare masters made with this to those I make with Acustica ASH and DMi Harvey Weinstein. For the money, it is excellent.

I can find a parallel for AI based software in music with AI based software in photography. Long story short, if I am a skilled photographer but not so skilled as retoucher, I use to rely more on Photoshop's neural filters et similia, which gives me a good result but not as good as if I knew where to put my hands on with manual filtering or also manually masking these filters. This doesn't mean that there is no AI based software at all I'd still use if I am a skilled retoucher, for example the noise removal tools. Now, let's say the photographer is the musician and the retoucher, the sound engineer and you likely get the same outcome.

I wasn’t gonna, cos I too have Smart:Limit, but then I thought 🤔💭 “Maybe this would be a good ‘Safety Limiter’ during the Writing Recording stage ?! Usually I use my DAWs’ limiter plugins, either Inserted or on a Sub-Group Bus to catch any wild excursions while I’m ‘Kreatink”. But that takes time to set up and at a time when I’m trying to be less Techie and more Creative ...y. However, ... There’s a hefty 57ms of latency here @ 48KHz so maybe not for the Songwriting Safety Limiter role, after all. BUT at the Intro+Loyalty discount it’s a steal anyway. I think I’ve just convinced myself … I won’t be calling Pluginaholics Anonymous … cos I don’t want to Stop 🤪

Loudness is not that hard, only rules: 1. ABOVE or AT -14 lufs integrated 2. Use a limiter that can gain compensate accurately so it sounds equally loud to the ears with and without limiting. Or gainmatch manually 3. Make the loudness (or threshold setting of the limiter/gainreduction) so the music benefits the most 4. Disable the gain compensated output (so it gets louder) 5. Set the output ceiling to generally what you can afford, KZbin will only reduce volume above -14, not add gain if you're under, so if you are at -14 on youtube, you can't really have -1 peak as it will be 1db quieter which is more a disadvantage to the "competition" than having a "100%" clean conversion from wav to mp3 etc When you measure the integrated loudness, you need to analyze the whole file with the peak near or at 0 in the file. For example at loudness penalty, but there are many measurements tools to choose from.

Its not AI, thats what the complaint should be. I have nearly all of the Sonible suite and they are very good (except the Smart Comp which reacts different on every repeat of the sound - try it on a sample snare loop). Buts its not AI, its measuring the input and doing some sums to work out a good starting point. AI it ain't though. If it called into a huge online library of mastered tracks and learnt what would work from analysis of past tracks et, then that might start being AI. Its just become an annoying buzzword developers stick on their product because its sounds clever
