Stowaways end up catching a ride on this train and either survive on it, or try to reach the conductor whom masterminds the train. These stowaways bear a strange "number" on their body. This number represents how far the passengers have to explore before they can leave the train. But they don't know this. Some end up believing the number represents their value and might, and fixate on growing it through ruthless acts against the monsters they encounter whilst traversing the train. But as I said, the number is like a counter for their mental journey. The fact that the blonde villain's number was so great reflected how far gone he was mentally. Meanwhile you see how the girl's number went from tens of digits down to almost none, to acknowledge her turn for the better. A central theme of the show is/was the emotional and angsty journey that teens go through and outgrowing it.

But here's it mostly summarized, there will be spoilers, so i recommend not reading and actually watching the show: -The train 'captures' people and tries to teach them some kinda of lesson they will need on their life and turning them into better people (kinda like therapy, but with a higher risk of death) -Each passenger has a number on their hand, the lower the number the closer they are from learning their lesson and leaving the train. The number can always get higher, by becoming a worse person or refusing to learn, as you can see from the video. -Wether the train is a good thing or not is up to interpretation. The motivations are good obviously, the methods may seem questionable -They are currently outside the train, in the space between wagons, that weird-looking-giant-soul-sucking -roach is all that lives here. -As the name suggests, it is a very long train.
