I could see the reverse Sonamy plot which eventually forms into "he falls and she falls harder" in time. Either way, whether they become officially a couple or keep things to ship-teasing, I believe they'll eventually develop mutual feelings for each other.

Make her cool and also have feelings like girls do. She can still be a strong character but also be vulnerable around someone like Sonic who she likes. Make her more secretive about her crush or better yet, have Sonic be more obsessed over her and have her embrace that.

If they do a romance plot, I think it should tie back to some major theme like: Believing in one’s compassion/potential no matter the future. This could be shown by Metal Sonic underestimating the power of organic life emotions OR shaming the love between Amy and Sonic as inferior in his quest to maintain the Bad Future and be the REAL SONIC Like of like how they tied the Sonic/Tom and Shadow/Maria bonds to the theme of grief and choices in Sonic 3

Tbh that's not too surprising each movie goes for a different tone whilst maintaining the storyline, tone and themes/learned lessons from the previous movie/show (which is honestly pretty impressive). Movie 1 is a Buddy Cop Roadtrip Movie, Movie 2 is an Indiana Jones Globetrotting Adventure Style Movie, Knuckles is all about Wade (with Knuckles appreciating his new home), Movie 3 is a Fast & Furious/Espionage Style Movie.

If I Became a Filmmaker/animator, director, producer and writer, or i got have licence. I will make my own sonic media, as my own universe, with focusing some more characters, with great development and strong written, and focusing some action, adventure, fantasy, and drama. But not always focuing more comedic, it so annoying and stupid and cringy like that. But my own style will be hard to develop to made very unique, to write a better drama and relationship characters. But not some weird stuff, because i hate making so weird for my own sonic universe, if i became famous? Even romantic, i will make a better written romantic with no comedy, just action, adventure, fantasy, and drama. If you want me to make me to write something what you want, if i become a better writer enough?

Sorry to burst your bubble but I've heard that SEGA has been showing that it might not be too much longer until Sonamy romance stuff will start getting shown in the games. Also it's been getting revealed that they are trying to make Amy be a more likable character in the games instead of continuing to have her be the obsessed annoying stalker that she used to be shown as.
