Advance 2's music was insane, not Advance 3 level imo but it was crazy. I remember re-playing it last month and hearing Techno Base Act 2 and having my mind blown that they pulled off this Acid Trance and DnB fusion type music on the GBA. Im happy that Frontiers sorta brought back fast paced Jungle/DnB music like alot of the 2000s games had

Your interpretations & descriptions for each part of Advance 2; it's almost uncanny how closely they sync up with mine and you do such a great job articulating it too. Citing material from the encyclospeedia was a nice touch 👍 I don't appreciate how the story just contrives what happened with Knuckles. He really deserved better treatment/writing than that and so does Cream with how thoroughly ignored she became in the years that followed.

Thank you for your kind comment, I greatly appreciate it! ☺ Yeah the writers have always poked fun at Knuckles, but you really see it in the Advance Trilogy and Battle. This might be controversial, but I actually enjoyed his writing in Forces and see him take a leadership role. It's too bad they didn't expand on it, but I'm staying optimistic for Frontiers!

This game is probably the only Sonic game that had a focus on taking multiple Pathways instead of just the top path as the fastest. It's too bad they never went back to that as it made speed running every level more unique instead of every level being similar in terms of fastest route. The momentum-based boost mode was also genius as it gave a greater purpose to rings. Instead of just collecting them for protection you also collect them for Speed too. Good review BTW, my first video on your Channel and you've got a nice voice.👍

I am so glad i'm not alone in loving Cream. I've especially gained a whole new appreciation for her due to modern politics. But seeing the cute, well-mannered and overall gentle Cream really warms my heart and heals my spirit. It's no wonder she vefriended a chao.

Sonic Advance 2 is absolutely my favorite Sonic game and i love it so much. To me this is what sonic a sonic game should be. Such a lot of good memories playing this game over and over and over again. It got to the point wear not only did i know the optimal routes for all of the special stage rings but i can could complete the game with max score every time. The boost mechanic was such a fantastic addition to 2D sonic and i love how they implemented it in this game as oppose to future iterations where instead of holding a button, boost mode was an earned mechanic by either hitting boost pads or running for long periods of time. And hitting and staying in boost mode to the end of the level feels soooo good. The trick system was sooo cool and added extra depth to movement, but also this is the game where Sonic a has access to his air dash which done by double tapping forward while in the air. Fun fact you can also do special tricks by pressing the jump button at the perfect time off of rails and launch pads. This game designed with the same identity as an arcade game, from how the levels progressed, bosses difficult, and even to how special stages work (which funny enough is a precursor to red rings), and i absolutely love it for that. This is the absolute best sonic game hands down.

I’ve been all over the place with Sonic Advance 2. It’s never been one of my favorites or least favorites, but I’ve gone back and forth between “this is really exhilarating and fun” and “this feels automated and most levels play the same” several times. I think the Sonic Rush games do a better job of making you go blazing fast while still keeping every level interesting (platforming was made worse, but that’s another story), and the 3D Boost games get around that by simply being in 3D. At least the music is way better than the first game. My favorites are Leaf Forest, Hot Crater, and Ice Paradise. Also it’s funny how Cream has been on so many “worst Sonic characters” lists for years for her high-pitched voice (from the games that have voice acting), yet now that she barely shows up, tons of people are clamoring for her return. You never really appreciate something until it’s taken away from you. Sorry for this long-ass essay. Can’t wait for the Sonic Advance 3 video!

I understand what you mean. Personally for me, beating a level as quickly as I can is one of the things that draws me towards Sonic Advance 2. So I'm easily fascinated by boosting through the levels. But I can see why someone may feel that the game's boost sections seem automated. I think it depends on the gaming qualities and features you look for in a Sonic game. Like for 3D Sonic, a significant portion of the fanbase has grown tired of the boost gameplay... and yet other fans still enjoy it. I do find that interesting! I also wonder if it's a generational thing as well. I grew up with Sonic Advance 2, so Cream has always been one of my favorite Sonic characters. But people who grew up during the genesis era may not be as fond of her. I see the same thing happening with other characters like Silver. He was initially hated when Sonic 06 came out, but now most fans have grown fond of him. And don't be sorry, I appreciate the insightful comment! 😁

About your Chao Garden glitch, it happened to me as a kid and I ended up figuring out how to trigger it, you’ll basically have to tilt your cartridge a bit out of the console, but enough as to still be read by it. By doing that you’ll not only unlock the Tiny Chao Garden, but unlock everything in the game: Amy, True Area 53… It’s the only way I ever played thoses as a kid haha, and it also works in the first Advance game, I managed to play through Moon Zone a few times that way. Not 100% sure why this works though, I think tilting the cartridge is tricking the game into loading wrong stuff??

Even though I'm not a big fan of handhelds or 2d Sonic, the Advance trilogy + Battle are great games, and Advance 2 in particular is one of my favorite games to this day. The zone themes, the (absolutely fantastic) OST, the sprite animations, the gameplay, newcomers Cream and Cheese... Special Rings and Special Stages aside, everything works so well together. Never thought ot Sonic Advance 2 as a "feel-good game" before, but it makes sense: when you're running, everything is trying to "help" you continue running (long levels to run more, few enemies to get in the way, the music keeping the beat, etc.). The Boost mode is also better implemented here than how it is from Rush onwards, much more engaging than just holding a button to become invicible. It's one of the best Sonic games to reach a flow state IMO, and I love it for that.

Honestly I love this kind of review. It’s way better to have someone talk about their experience and feelings about a game than just having someone judge a piece of art by unpersonal, cold and arbitrary criteria that internet tricked you into thinking are « objectively bad and wrong ». I was so tired of not seeing anyone on here talking about the actual HEART of a piece of art and so glad I found this channel, made me feel a lot better too!!!
