That last scene where sonic wished for a mountain of handkerchiefs was actually a super beautiful message. Shahra will probably have to heal for years after being under Erazor’s control, and Sonic knows that. In the beginning, Sonic said he was going to get her to smile, but he recognizes how hard that will be after all they’ve been through. At the very least, a ridiculous amount of handkerchiefs can help her cope with the pain she feels now until she gets to a point where she can smile.

Never played this game myself, but i've watched the final boss for this game so many times online and the whole "Darkspine Sonic" thing always hits me like a brick. The fact that Sonic's Hatred, Sadness, and Rage attracted the rings of the same name to him like that and you can hear his pain in his scream as he transforms suddenly. Then you can just hear how messed up in the head he is during the boss. That's some powerful stuff man.

I like to think that Darkspine Sonic is what could have been Sonic's true transformation as a result of the Seven World Rings, but it was altered by Sonic's anger towards Erazor and grief towards Shahra's death. That explains his perpetual anger and rage throughout his bossfight. Notice he's barely giving hints himself (most of them are given by Shahra's voice/spirit). It's because he's struggling to retain his sense of mind. If Sonic hadn't mustered up the will to revert his transformation, he could have become completely lost to his grief. Makes sense really. He's never personally dealt with the death of someone close to him.

It took me a minute to realize that Alf Layla Wa Layla discarded the Hatred, Sadness, and Rage Rings and they went to Sonic, who was still processing Shahra's death. That's why he sounds almost in pain, anguish, and has rage in his voice. Kind of a bit like Werehog Sonic. It's a bit of a similar concept.

So apparently Darkspine Sonic was unintentional. Erazor was suppose to sacrifice Sonic (The one who gathers the rings) to get the 7 world rings powers. But because he killed Shahrah instead, the sacrifice was only partially made. Someone was sacrificed,yes, but not the ring gatherer. This is why Both Sonic and Erazor are looking so messed up. This game has such iconic lines, like 'come sonic, and face me' 'You want it, you got it' 'Hows that for an introduction' 'next time try writing a better story' It's lines like these that prove that Jason Griffith is the best sonic VA, he can produce a large range of emotions in his lines(unlike Roger) and he is more competent at his line delivery compared to Ryan(although in Ryan's case it was a product of its time as most of the voices in adventure 1 and 2 were a bit off)

I feel like I've warmed significantly to this game over the years. When I first played it as a kid it turned me off because of how unintuitive and stiff the controls were, and how hard the game was because of that. Now that I'm an adult with at least SOME grasp on the concept of nuance, I appreciate this game for what it was. It was an experiment, a radical departure from Sonic's general gameplay, themes, and storytelling style. I dig the Arabian Nights theme, the music is kickass, the character designs are surprisingly good (seriously, the Ifrit was legit REALLY intimidating as a kid, and now as an adult it still looks utterly sick), and 4Kids Sonic's voice acting really started to come into its own here. This and Black Knight were probably his best appearances, and the stories themselves, despite the obvious silliness of a big blue anthropomorphic animal running around and tackling things with his face being the main character, were surprisingly poignant and cohesive, even in retrospect. I think if they remade this game, gave it better gameplay, put the current cast in, and get some less corny writers (although not much tbh, it's still pretty alright. The mountain of handkerchiefs line was awkward in its delivery and verbiage, but the message itself was kinda beautiful) and a voice director who knows what they're working with, this game and Black Knight would be a HIT

Oh my god I remember playing this on the wii. I would keep playing it trying to beat my record every weekend. I remember seeing a rubber ducky in the lava level lol.

The haters of the game hates it because it's hard asf for them tbh For me the game is perfect in many ways: 1- good story 2- not easy gameplay (i love hard games more than medium ones) 3- Darkspine sonic is the most badass sonic form ever 4- the gameplay 5- the boss fights 6- erazor djinn (idk why but i like him as a villain) That makes the game my best sonic game ever

The game isn’t hard and people recognize it for the strong points you’ve mentioned, it’s primarily criticized for its buggy and generally un-fun and forced motion control mechanics via the Wii, I think it’d be a lot more recognized if it was a 360/PS3 title with fluent gameplay

DashBOI Are you serious? Is the gameplay perfect for you? It's woody and you had to stick with your arms thanks to the wii mode. I can accept the story, the music, the voices and the bosses but the gameplay is horrible. The beauty has been judged as a Black Knight's melee, which is also not that great, but it is certainly better than this

My favourite thing is that Erazor Djinn's weapon is a literal razor. For those who don't know, the word "eraser" comes from "a razor", because razors were originally used to scrape ink off of parchment in the event of a mistake.
