In this video I show various Sonic CD JP instruments and where they come from, as well a recreation of each one. I'm planning making more 2 or 3 parts. I don't know exactly when they will be ready, I like to transcribe everything as much accurate as I can, so is possible it will delay a little.
I'd like to say a huge thanks to Nuclear for the Korg 01/W recordings.
He is a musican and researcher who also does restorations, please check his awesome work:

Correction: All the Korg M1 and EX expansion sounds here are likely from a Korg T2 instead. We talked with someone who worked with Naofumi Hataya in 90's and according to him they had a Korg T2 in SEGA. Considering how the Korg T2 = Korg M1 + EX in a single synthesizer, we believe a T2 was used instead of the M1 and EX. Anyway the sounds are correct, you should be able to find all those M1/EX sounds in Korg T2.

Another correction: The accordion at 1:58 was likely also used in Quartz Quadrant Present. I would know because I listened to the soundtrack. Also, you spelled accordion wrong. Very great video though.

Honestly, some of my favorite segments from the given tracks are probably PP BF's piano, and QQ P's saxophone. PP just gives off a feel of familiarity, but one that's rapidly deteriorating and being destroyed, and QQ's gives a feel of the outside segment and the rushing waterfalls and beautiful scenery. Seriously, Quartz Quadrant is one of my favorite tracks from the entire Sonic series. The godly piano mixed with that drumbeat and base, just really good. Especially love the theme of duality that not only starts there, but in the futures too. You ever notice how the bad future is based mainly on the first segment, and the good future is based on the second segment? Really great idea there. Idk, that's just my two cents anyway, hehe.

I would like so much to have the entire Sonic CD JP soundtrack open-source, where people can collaborate to tweak the sequence and instruments to get as close as possible to the source material. It would help so much for preservation and documentation purposes. Did you use any online reference to find some of the instruments for your restoration projects? That said, I can not wait for a Part 2 of this video.
@CollisionChaos
@CollisionChaos 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, that sounds like a awesome project and is something I actually would like to do someday. About your question, this video in specific was made with my own research. I have been researching about sonic cd instruments and samples for various years. Various of my findings were done by listening synthesizers demos here in youtube and also in a site called SynthMania. In future videos i'm planning to also put some findings that other people made (with credits of course).
