This is one of those games that sounds like an joke on paper, but is actually bizarrely well made for its goofy idea. Bouncing between the gauntlet of recent trending horror titles under the skin of Sonic.exe, a poorly aged creepypasta brought back into the limelight by FNF, was an amazing treat. And as a wee lad who spent a LOT of hours playing Sonic Schoolhouse back on Windows 98, this just about brought happy tears to my eyes. Gotta hand it to sonic fans.

The idea of Sonic.EXE being a virus that corrupts and invades other games is such an interesting idea. Since the FNaF phase does not seem altered for hard mode, I am not sure if this idea is what the devs are going for. A wild idea I would be interested in is conditioning the player into believing that there are these established separated worlds [other franchises' games] that are accessible from a hub world like in the Dread X collections. During the course of the game, the player gets to see how the Sonic.EXE virus corrupts each of them. What the player doesn't initially know, is that every time the player completes a game/world, that game's corrupted characters can now invade other games while the player is trying to complete them (like how the angry boss Sonic started showing up in schoolhouse Sonic's game). A downside to this is that feel of unlucky RNG similar to what Dee Dee does in Ultimate Custom Night. But the payoff would be getting to see the Sonic.EXE corruption actively spreading to other games and that moment when the player catches on.

It's sure as shit better than what the actual author of Sonic.exe came up with, specifically that Sonic is actually a demon named X that uses a copy of Sonic to appear in the world as a plushie that kills people except he doesn't really kill people, he just leaves them in a vegetative state. (I don't get it either. The author sucks at writing so he's inconsistent as fuck about that little detail)

The Hard Mode would really benefit from adding the evil Sonic in the FNAF-sequence too. The only change was the timer, from what I noticed and I think adding another enemy and forcing the player to pay more attention to the camera would improve it. Maybe the big bad being immune to doors and only zapping it would repel it since its meant to be a virus? Something like that.

i feel like it's all the seminal indie online horror games neatly tied into one: sonic.exe which kickstarted that odd ".exe" genre phase, FNAF which had clear reverberations for indie horror and killed slender games, and baldi which, to whatever extent, toyed more with an idea of genre parody than others (though DDLC obviously also did this)

Fun fact: Sonic Schoolhouse is where the ingame segments come from. Though it wasn’t a horror game, it had many unsettling features in how empty the game was in terms of characters. Exe is self explanatory, but the form you see ingame is his true form, Xenophanes which is his canon true form as of now.
