ben drowned (originally published as haunted majora's mask cartridge)is a three-part multimedia well known alternate reality game arg web serial and web series created by alexander d. hall under the pen name jadusable. originating as a creepypasta based on the 2000 action-adventure game the legend of zelda: majora's mask and suddenly published by hall from 2010 to 2020 with a hiatus in-between, the series is known for creating many of the current common tropes and themes of creepypasta and for subverting themes from the legend of zelda game series. the series concluded on october 31, 2020.
serving as hall's first project, the first arc of the series, haunted cartridge, was finally released in 2010. it follows college sophomore jadusable, who, after acquiring a haunted nintendo 64 video game cartridge of majora's mask, and now sonic.exe and bendrowned rap battle in a freshy kanal rap battle.

I love that Ben's has or at least sounds like the backwards music because I remember that being a part of the creepypasta. @setsers1 Basically, Alex (the guy behind Ben Drowned and Jadusable) started putting ai into his work after coming back to continue the original story. From using ai to extend the original song of healing in one of his videos to retconning the original story with ai (Ben's ghost is apparently not a ghost anymore but an ai generation of his soul now). There's more going on with it, but that's the quick summary of it

BREAKDOWN. Let me clarify some things first: Ben Drowned's lore is, really, really complex. So i'm sorry if i'm wrong with something, you can kindly correct me in the replies if that's the case. Also: the Father: A deity inside the haunted Maroja's Mask Cartridge, which is also very responsible for a great part of Ben's suffering. Moon Children: A religious cult from the Ben Drowned series. They're the cause Ben is inside the Link Statue. They believe dying is the way to 'Ascend.' Jadusable: The first person who got their hands on the haunted Cartridge, from an, as X says, old guy's yard sale. Now, the breakdown for real. *Ben:* "The curse of the cartridge is coming to life, do what you do best, and run for your life." Sonic can indeed run pretty damn fast. "I took one look at your ugly design, and now we've both got blood in our eyes." Contrary to popular belief, ben isn't a Link with bloody eyes. That's just the terrible ben drowned creepypasta that got popular instead of the original series. "We corrupted our games and took over computers, but let me put a lens on the truth.." the lens of the truth is a Majora's mask item, that also has some importance in Ben Drowned's history. "While you ended up inspiring some users, I ended up inspiring YOU." Self explanatory. Ben drowned existed way before Sonic.exe, also. "They say don't judge a book by it's cover, what a bummer, that alone has your whole story covered." Sonic.exe's story is very boring and edgy in general. "You strike a pose and then cut up all your friends to bits, link must've played the elegy of edgyness." The *Elegy of Emptyness* is the song you play to summon the Link statue in the Original Majora's Mask, and at the same time yet agains mentions how Edgy Sonic.exe is. "The emptiest narrative ever since the vessel where I hid, so let me try to better it, Ben has been known to edit scripts." Vessel = Link Statue. He says he's known to edit scripts, because when Jadusable , the first protagonist, tries to make public what he's going through and how ben communicates with him, Ben constantly edits his posts and texts to remove any mention of him. "You sen't your pals to heaven, beheaded and left'em tortured. I guess you saved the best to end last, now it's YOURTURN." Your Turn being all caps and stick together is on purpose. When Jadusable first plays the game, Ben tries to talk to him by editing the savefiles names, one of them being 'YOURTURN.' *Sonic.exe:* "I hope you're faster than your youtube show, cuz' I kill tales when they move too slow." The ben drowned series had an 8 (almost 9!) years hiatus after episode 5 or so. Tales kinda sounds like Tails, who was killed by Sonic.exe in the original Creepypasta. "I'm aware that your Ritual didn't do much, but if you want death X GON' GIVE IT TO YA." Ben wanted to be Link through a Moon's children Ritual, (since he was part of the cult once) he drowned so he could ascend and become Link, but he ended up inside the Link Statue instead. Also, "X Gon Give It To Ya" is a DMX song. "Your cartridge blows, you need a redesign, coming from a CD i'd rather boot up the CD-i!" He is talking about "Link: the faces of evil". Yes, that ugly TLOZ game with Morshu in it. *Rope, bombs, you want it?* "You we're the sacrificial Lamb of some mad religion, tried to ascend but couldn't get past the Baptism" as previously mentioned, ben was part of The moon Children, and it doomed him. And we all know what a baptism is. Sonic.exe is making fun of him drowning. "C'mon, keep this interesting kid you've gone stale. You've been free, in an old Guy's yard sale." Jadusable got the cartridge for free at an old guy's yard sale. "You wanna be a hero? better luck next time," Ben wanted to be Link. "Cuz you are a Link, to your cult's website!" The moon children had a website. "Your project's out, but the hype was gone," when the ben drowned series ended 4 years ago, most people had already forgotten about it's existance. Kinda sad for such a great story. "You we're watered down, it's a dying cause," reference to drowning, and also a reference to Undyne vs Knuckles. "After all this time, your notoriety's lost. Every child sees my smile and knows I AM GOD!" A reference to sonic.exe being more popular with kids, and also the popular sonic.exe phrase; "I AM GOD." *Ben:* "?pord seidob ekam I erehw wonk annaw uoy oD Do you wanna know where I make bodies drop?" He talks through cleverbot, because that's also a thing he does in the original story to communicate with Jadusable. I don't know what the reverse text could be referencing. ".tops eht kram lliw X hguone nooS Soon enough X will mark the spot." Sonic.exe's actual name is X. "Every single land I touch the scent of death lingers," (Kinda funny cuz Ben doesn't kill anyone in the entire Ben Drowned series, he's actually nice. Even Jadusable didn't actually get killed by ben, but by the father.) "You remain the same you've always been, a dead ringer." Calls sonic.exe a copy but also, Ring-er. Sonic's Rings. "Your story's like your disk, a cursed passed to every new kid, but your program can't be fixed no matter how much you reboot it." Sonic.exe has been through a LOT of hands. After JC the Hyena was exposed, the 'ownership' of Sonic.exe was passed to another person. So, this is probably a way of saying 'You're always terrible no matter what.' "You can't swim," Sonic can't swim (neither ben lol) "You've been drowning and your whole arc's water under the bridge, since you were moved to where the trolls are." Sonic.exe got moved from the creepypasta Wiki to the trollpasta Wiki for being a terrible history. "But hide and seek with your origin will have to do," Ben liked hide and seek. "Finding me? you should worry 'bout who finded you." Sonic.exe's original creator, JC The Hyena, was.. a questionable person. (Ahem ahem MINORS ahem ahem.) *Sonic.exe:* "Clocks ticking, big ben, that was regrettable!" Big ben, the clock, but also, ben himself. "Get off your high horse, I'll chase you off that pedestal!" the Elegy of Emptyness statue is standing on a pedestal, and Link rides a horse, making it both a metaphorical and literal bar. "You think you're clever cause you're hiding in a database? but all you managed to do is run an AMA!" The creator of Ben drowned, Alexander D hall (Jadusable on KZbin), did multiple AskMeAnything's and QnA's. "The father's a *Luna* (Moon) - tic, and you are the son (Sun, maybe?) who's *eclipsed* by the *moon* children!" Luna - Sun - Eclipsed - Moon. "Trapped in that statue, your errors are grave... I've said you've met with a terrible *Faith!* " Ive said you've met with a terrible fate is a phrase said in Majora's Mask commonly associated with ben Drowned. But Exe replaces Fate with Faith, since ben being in the religious Moon Children cult is what caused him to end up like that. "Found a new form for your soul at the end," At the end of Ben Drowned's history, Ben ends up in Link's body, free from his torment and achieving his dream. "It just makes it all easier to hold down your head! there's so many pools of blood where I can drown you, let's see if your lungs will be ready for Round 2!" Apart from the drowning references, the original Sonic.exe game ends with a mention of a round 2. And that's it. Imo, it's very close but I think sonic took it. Again, tell me if I got anything wrong.
