Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon and Beyond

Over the course of this year, Sonic Frontiers has received three substantial updates that completely overhaul the game. Better yet, all of it was for free. It seems that these updates have garnered a lot of praise from the fans with a few detractors here and there, but what about me? Well, you’ll find that out now.

I would say each update is better than the last they all may have problems but at the end of the day they make frontiers a better game with more content and hey if anyone doesn’t like the new content it’s all completely optional

Great video, Tony! How do I feel about the dlc? Well...... overall I loved it, but the negatives about it are very much present(namely the king koco trial). I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10. The Supreme End almost made it a 9 out of 10 though. As for this Sage vs Infinite debate... I have to respectfully disagree with your choice.... don't get me wrong your reasons are valid and do agree with a few of them... but what ultimately makes me prefer Sage is the emotional moments with her and her "father" eggman ( I mean just look at his reaction to Sage's sacrifice in the base game!) I won't deny that Infinite is an amazing villain but in my eyes, eggman's dear daughter beats him out. Looking forward to your double review!

The Master King Koko trial nearly made me blow a fuse. The Wyvern Fight was the main one causing me the most rage. I even Swallowed my pride and put it on easy to pass it and even then i Still had a bunch of rage doing it. also regarding the villains ranking i feel like the end would be a better candidate for the list than sage since sage is mostly a minor villain in comparison to the end, since it successfully manipulated sonic into freeing it.

I see the Kid Icarus: Uprising and Devil May Cry 5 in your intro. DMC5 is awesome, and KI:U deserves a sequel. P.S. Extreme difficulty in Frontiers is basically Hell and Hell mode from Devil May Cry 4 and 5.

This game went from B-tier to A-tier with these updates; at least for me. Each update had its own flavor of fun and I was pleased with what I got out of them, even if there is clearly room for improvement. I can't wait to see where they take the Open Zone formula! Anyway, I'm looking forward to your double review of Superstars and Wonder! I've played Superstars, but I still have yet to get my hands on Wonder. I plan on getting it this Christmas if I can.

With these updates, Sonic Frontiers went for me from a solid 8/10 game, to a close to great 8.9/10. And yeah I have to agree with the final boss of the Final Horizon update, for me, its not only the best final boss in the Sonic series but also one of my favorite bosses in gaming. Also I'm here revisited is just fantastic, its not only my favorite Sonic final boss theme but also my favorite final boss theme period.

You know, I am thinking that the Final Horizon update is the canonical ending, since The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog ends with Eggman "celebrating" Amy's birthday, and we also see Orbot, Cubot, Metal Sonic, and Sage. The ending from the main game did make me think Eggman recreated Sage's body, but with the new ending, that may not have been the case, as Sage not needing to be remade seems more likely. Guess it's just another timeline crisis of what's canon and what isn't in the Sonic franchise...

Yeah, while Sage is great as a character, she was more of a neutral party, due to her choosing to mainly observe Sonic, rather than act as actual obstacle for him to overcome, whereas Infinite is an actual villain in comparison to Sage, with him making his threatening presence known since the beginning and being a more intimidating threat for Sonic to defeat. Great review, by the way!

While I like Sage so much better I totally see your point as a matter of fact I was disappointed we didn't get a Sage boss fight like.. Sonic immediately understand her motivation despite not even being aware and should be aware of at that point and the trailer showed him and Sage about to fight and that never happens in the game that disappointed me

Missed the live stream, so I'll add my points here. one, I was originally exactly like woody when you said infinite was a better villain, but then you explained it and... yeah, I don't disagree with you. while i think, as a character, sage is much better, as a villain she isn't too special other than being Eggman's "daughter." two, a recent interview with Kishimoto came out for the 1-year anniversary of this game, and actually said that the clarity of the supreme end being minimal was a design choice, to add a new layer of difficulty, "unfamiliarity". he also said that he regrets making the master king koco trials that hard, so hey, at least he has shown remorse. three, while i personally think find your flame clears 9/10 times, there is always that one time where i think "hmm, maybe the revisited track is better". either way i know for a fact one way dream is no longer better.

Well to add on here, they actually updated the game again. Fixed a few things with the difficulty scaling of dlc 3, as well as both problems with knuckles gliding

I really enjoyed all the dlc in this game, with update 3 being my favorite for the new story and the other changes despite the difficulty. to be honest. i didnt find master king kocos trial to be as bad as everyone says it is. I get why people hate the trial but after understanding how the trial works and learning the perfect parry timing i actually liked the restrictions we had. while its true the fight were not made for the perfect parry, it was difficult at first but i was still able to study where the hitboxes on the attacks actually land and was able to perfect parry pretty consistently. after finding the strategy it didnt take me long to beat the trial at first. I also just recently beat it on extreme and it only took me like 2 or 3 hours to beat both master king kocos trial and the surpreme end on extreme with the tricks i learned along with other tricks i saw from others. the only thing i didnt enjoy that much in the dlc were the cyberspace stages, they just were not that interesting to me honestly.

Yeah, the Snake trial was in fact so ridiculous the Cyloop method didn't work for me, instead i used the Parry method and was followed by the other trials being almost insultingly easy. Also, is it just me or is the Perfect Parry in The End's boss a bit more generous than the King trials? Also also, what about the trees obscuring your view sometimes?

I actually had a fix for the Titan boss rush: Make it so if you have less than 200 rings after the previous Titan, the ring count gets set to 200 minimum.

this, weirdly enough, happens in the base game, where if you had less than 100 rings before transforming, you'd start with 100

Would it be weird if I said; I almost never had a problem with the Perfect Parry in the Titan fight? How I managed it was not just I had the Master King trial on Easy but I sort have good reflexes (trying not brag)

When it comes to the point about basing the opinion on the first attempt it's important to consider that bad experience on the first attempt can turn one off from replaying it, to make a point of comparison, I really hated Security Hall's 1st mission in SA2 because my frustration around only having 5 minutes and needing to do quite a bit in that time made me never want to play through it again because of how infuriating the experience was, in that case it wasn't a matter of difficulty but it's the same point, there are times when one plays a section and the experience turns them off from replaying it due to how frustrating it was to beat the first time, other than that I do agree that basing it off the first attempt isn't the best way to judge it, just thought I'd point out a little nuance.

You can respect it all you want. Hell, I can respect a lot of J’s Reviews spicier opinions such as hating Sonic Lost World, but there’s something about both his and several others opinions about The Supreme End being bad that sparked the segment on said people.

I think people opinion of final horizon cyberspace is wierd cause the level design is definitely really good and gave you real freedom to explore and try new routes, I get it base game cyberspace is not interesting but you're missing really good content ngl

12:06 absolute BS the master king trial isn't as unfair as people make it out to be as someone who cleared the trial on the SWITCH (the 30fps version of the game) on hard difficulty the only thing I have to say is stop letting the game hold your hand and actually put in the work yourselves

I'm glad you're able to like something a lot of people hate, but it wasn't about people refusing to learn the timing. it was the inherent timing being completely bullshit. You get at most a fifth of a second to parry, and a lot of the Titan hitboxes activate at the weirdest possible timings. Charriii actually pointed this out when he covered the FInal Horizon by slowing down the Wyvern's attacks to show just how incompatible the perfect parry is with the Titan fights.
