I think they both have mutual respect for each other since both are the heroes of their respective realms and both fight for the commonwealth of the less powerful. At most, they'd have a deep rivalry to showcase their respective skills, but unless Sonic kidnaps Peach or Mario makes robotic slaves of the Mobians, I think they're on good terms.
