Honestly sonic heroes is an example of a game I actually want to get a remake. I think the game is immensely flawed and could use little changes to make it better as I think its emblematic of both what I love and hate about sonic. The Art direction is perfect featuring best level themeing in the entire series. The ost is amazing but the main problem I have is that the game is poorly paced and the game is the most unpolished sonic game leading to unfair deaths. I don't want remakes of games that are already good. I want remakes of games that would actually benefit from it

Fun Fact : The engine that used for Sonic Heroes was Renderware, and it's also used for the GTA PS2 games, and those games got a remaster on modern platforms, and you probably know the results.

I guess the reason that they go with heroes being remade because they know that if they somehow or rather really botch SA one and two... They will never hear the end of it. They just want to see if they can actually remake Sonic Heroes first and see if they can really make the most of unreal engine 5 before they go and try to remake the more appraised Sonic games.

I love Sonic Heroes. Even I admit that it has those problems you mentioned. Running at high speeds is slippery, combat (particularly the Homing Attack) is just spammy, and some of the lines are cringeworthy. ("Why can't I defeat you?" "Because we're Sonic He~roes!") But the concept is awesome and that's why I think a Remake is perfect and not a mere remaster.

Seeing as Sonic Heroes is getting a remake, (And this is the very first time SEGA are planning a remake in years) I am both excited but sceptical. When remaking a game, there's a lot to execute and resources to make throughout the process. So I can only hope that the team pull it off without reverting back to their same mishaps like they did for both Sonic Colours Ultimate and Sonic Origins.

Pretty much summed up my thoughts. To a Sonic fan, they could tolerate Heroes faults due to it being a game they love. But to the average consumer, the crowd that Sega is prioritizing, the faults of heroes they may not enjoy. So they’re going to have to address the issues, which may cause the spirit of the game to be negated. Also, you can’t expect all of the voice cast from the game to return, same with the riskiness of the stages. Expect some automation and voice work redone. It’ll be a modern version of Heroes to fit the brand.

It makes sense. It's the least accessible Sonic game to play in modern times even including the PC port you mentioned, it's the best selling Sonic game of all time, even still outselling Frontiers due to it being the first Sonic game to go multiplatform, like you said, it appeals to a wider range of audiences due to its simplicity, and it has, out of all the possible games to remake, the best level design due to how varied they are as well as the aesthetic being perfect for Unreal Engine 5 to upgrade. Not even Unleashed can claim to have the best level design due to the night time stages limiting us to the slow as molasses wherehog as well as how linear the day time stages are in comparison.

This is very cool! I always thought of the game in HD Sonic Unleashed like graphics! Though, I'm a bit concerned about the voice acting in this remake besides Eggman. No offence to anyone, but it would sound a bit odd with Roger Craig Smith doing all of Ryan's lines. As much as I'd love to see Jason Griffith to be rehired for his game to bring back Sonic's younger voice, or even Ryan Dummond to be brought back, I don't think that'll happen. But that's just me. All in all, Sonic Heroes is one of my favourite games of the franchise! ❤

When i first played sonic heroes way way way back when i didn't like it, it took me awhile to get used to the game over the years. i truly believe Sonic 06 deserves it more than any of the games on the list. they could rework the story and make things more polished and redeem the game so the internet will stop make this game the punching bag.

I'm certainly tense for the results. I genuinely hope that they make the game handle well because that was always the biggest issue with the original. Even with SA-physics modded in(Yes, I used that mod because I couldn't beat it otherwise, boo me.), the characters just handle worse than in other games. When it comes to voiceacting, I want them to keep the old english recordings unless they relocalize the game to make it more close to the original japanese.(Unlikely, but it can always happen). And I guess I just hope the new regional dubs(that they will most likely make, if Colors Ultimate is any indication) will be good? German is kind of a cointoss at the moment because Eggman's newer voiceactor does a really good impression of the old one most of the time, but sometimes has that voicecrack while raising his voice that makes certain lines sound completely diffrent and it just sounds obnoxious.(It barely happens in Frontiers, but happens all the time in Colors Ultimate, so I think it is a matter of voicedirection and allowing retakes.) 2:36 Not by critics, that's for sure. And I doubt Sega dug out the old forum posts to confirm that "yes actually, SA games were controversial with fans and Heroes was less so, even tho that was 20+ years ago and a good chunk of those fans already moved on". I don't exactly give a lick about Critics scores after learning that Colors got rated higher than Gens and LW and Shadow were in my eyes unfairly obliterated(And Secret Rings got rated higher than Unwiished. Like bruh. I actually think Secret Rings is a good time myself, but you straight up can't really play that thing outside of Dolphin due to poor motion implementation, what were they smoking?), but that is still the only real metric Sega has to go off of outside of sales. Which granted, Heroes was the 3D bestseller before Frontiers.

Also Heroes may be the best choice, because it may fix all the issues Heroes has, plus the potential it has for bonus content and more is more varying than all the other Sonic games you mentioned, like imagine a unlockable Sega All-Star team featuring Aiai or Beat as the Speed Type, NiGHTS as the Flight Typer, one of the Streets of Rage characters as the Power Type. Maybe even a possible custom team option to unlock!

On the topic of people disliking heroes: The problem with heroes is that it’s not for everyone. Switching characters, slippery controls, long levels, and repetitive gameplay just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I can definitely see why people are a bit disappointed when seeing this game getting potentially remade. I personally love this game and nostalgia hits hard with it and I am SO hyped for this remake, sonic team just really needs to stop remaking games that were well received by critics rather than fans and audience. (Lookin at you unleashed reviewer 😑) To the fandom, an unleashed remake would be the best decision. I think a remake of SA1 would’ve been better than both heroes and unleashed in my book because it’s been the only thing that I’ve ever dreamed of (personal bias ig). But whatever heroes getting remade is still frickin amazing.

In unreal engine 5 this would be interesting. The renderware engine was completely defunked that it ran on. This means it’ll be COMPLETELY built up from the ground up. This could either fix a lot of problems or make them worse.

I can understand your frustration, but heroes is my FAVORITE Sonic game so I’m very happy. I think I could convince you that it’s good. It takes a lot of patience to enjoy it but when you do, man does it feel good to play.

I would honestly for Unleashed to get a remaster since I still haven't had a personal experience unlike the other 4 games so I would love Unleashed to get remastered or even just ported since it is one of the only mainline sonic games I still haven't played ! Still excited for Sonic X Shadow Generations though !

Using UE5 is likely not about graphics but general familiarity. Them finally getting used to using a more popular engine should makes things easier and more efficient when hiring other programmers or collaborating with other companies that likely already have familiarity with the engine, instead of having to spend time and money getting them to learn their own proprietary engines.

As a sonic fan. Unleashed is my #1 Sonic game. I love that game too but heros. Heros is alright but I'm not that hyped for it. Yea any sonic heros fan cool. Your favorite game got a remake. But when will sega finally listen to us and make a Unleashed remaster or just a PC port. [Kinda hoping sonic unleashed gets a remaster instead of a PC port cause I don't have a pc☹️]

You see, i hate heroes, and that's EXACTLY why i actually have a bit of hope with this remake, For other Games like Advneture 1 & 2 or unleashed, in their original versions are more than enjoyable, but heroes is that one game that, no matter what, i just CAN'T enjoy at all I think a full on remake is exactly the oportunity to fix this broken mess of a game, and maybe thanks to the remake i can finally enjoy a game i was never able to.

This is my opinion as to why I think that will never happen, as someone who wants it also. The game sucked right, but the story was memed to death rightfully so. I don't think they could re animate those scenes in modern graphics with a straight face. They'd have to change the story and at that point why not just remake sonic adventure.

Just view it tipping there toes in unreal engine 5 so that way when they make the adventure games there not in a completely different environment and don’t fumble the bag hard. Either way I don’t mind this because a remake could fix all of heroes problems (it has a lot) while the adventure games don’t need that much fixing expect for a graphical upgrade

0:46 I can understand criticism over replaying the same stages with different teams but repetitive level design and "art style sucks" well sorry I cannot agree with that. Heroes has one the best and unique levels out of all the games and it's art style makes it even better. On pair with SA1 I would say. Frog Forest / Hang Castle / Mystic Mansion / Egg Fleet are just iconic. Plus OST' are amazing. Some of the stages can be miserable to play due to bugs / glitches like Rail Canyon for example but if remake is not just rumors then most of the problems can be fixed and we can get an amazing game.

I swear back in the day (im in my 30s) NO ONE dunked on this game! I mean NO ONE! It was even playable at a kiosk in McDonald's and had a whole line of kids waiting for their turn. Idk what's happened from then to now but I for one am excited to be able to play this again and I already own 2 copies of it lol

People are missing the point. You can go back and play SA1 and SA2. They'll always be masterpieces. Sonic Heroes was almost as solid but it just fell short in a few categories and felt rushed. This is an opporunity for them to smooth out the edges and deliver the best sonic heroes experience possible. If they remake SA1 and SA2, and fucked it up and made them worse, it would irrepairably damage the trust for a lot of fans. It makes perfect sense that they're remaking Heroes first, it sold insanely well, plus it stands to improve the most from a remake out of the first 3 games.
