There are many things to be said about Sonic Superstars but I will never say it is a bad Sonic game. Sonic Superstars to me is like the perfect gateway drug into Classic Sonic because of how consistent the levels are that tests your high speed platforming skills. Also you're allowed to change levels and get Super Sonic pretty easily

Even on Sega's channel many people defending the game are under 20 or 15. Since alot of us are accustomed to Classic Sonic due to simple stuff like phone Apps, or Sonic 2 for IOS/Android. The issue with Sonic Superstars is that its lacking in game design and production values department. Level design talent cannot be taught. The level designers of Sonic Superstars are "Arzest", the level designers of Balan Wonderworld. Not the best game designers, and they are unlikely to improve. Zeldw TOTK is similar to Breath of the Wild, but Nintendo highers top notch level designers which Sega does not have

I genuinely love this game, there are just too many good aspects of it to let the few things I find to be just okay bring my enjoyment down. Like, I even enjoy most of the bosses. I could ask for better music from Jun Senoue and more detailed backgrounds, but overall I just like everything in this game. I didn't think it would happen

One criticism I had with the game that I don't see elsewhere, is that the level theming is really basic. For the original zones it had, Mania had such unique ideas, like a filming city, or a Newspaper press Winter garden. Superstars in comparison feels like you can describe most levels in one word, for example, jungle, desert, factory, winter, etc.
