Hello there! This is my Sonic Models 56xx, and I'd like to tell you about it. The goal of my channel is to provide informative and objective reviews on N gauge locomotives. I hope these videos will help the N gauge community as a whole and help my fellow Americans develop an interest in British trains.
Stay tuned. The Bachmann Thomas is up next. See you in the next one!

Hey, nice review, the 56xx 0-6-2 wheel arrangement was found to be very good in the South Wales where running bunker first helped guide the locomotive through the sharper curves (although by all accounts crews preferred their pre-grouping 0-6-2s). I’ve not tried my 56xx on a 4% grade, which is a really heavy grade so I’m not surprised it has some issues. The small uk locos can often have a few issues with switches and the isolated fishplates because I think of their very short wheelbases and lack of flywheel. I think you’ll find that ballast between the track is potentially going to cause problems for many locomotives

You would think the sloppy ballast would be a bigger deal, but a majority of my locomotives don't seem to mind. If you see my Thomas review later today (31/01/24 (that's how you guys do the date right?)), you'll notice that even with his shorter wheel base, he doesn't seem to notice. It is an issue I do pay attention to, though. I don't want to appear dismissive. I never want to damage any locomotive, least of all out of carelessness.

@@NGaugeUSA The ballast likely won’t cause damage, but might cause poor running. I found a lot of my UK steam doesn’t have great slow speed running but still looks good and runs well enough for typical speeds but then I’m not really shunting (switching) with it so I don’t mind. I have a fair amount of older poole build Graham Farish steam and while they detail isn’t there they do capture the look of the real thing and are tough as old boots so i’m very fond of them. Also btw .. I get both date types! I grew up in South Wales but live above you guys now in the great white north!
