The Sonic movies as a whole feel like they are one of those series' you see alot where it takes some time for them to really find their place and hit their stride. But then they manage to find that sweet spot and become amazing. This movie absolutely makes up for the Knuckles miniseries (although I did like that, alot of people understandably didn't). But at the same time, it also doesn't ignore it in the continuity (without spoiling anything, I'll just say that despite the reduced screentime of the human characters, Wade does do a thing in the movie).

I just came back from the theaters from a day-early screening at my local theater and WOW. I'm just so amazed by everything. For me, Sonic Movie 2 still had remnants of "family movie" trying to appeal to the general public (ex. wedding scene), but they really locked in with this one. This one REALLY is about Shadow and Sonic, and is honestly one of the best video game movie adaptations ever. I'm so glad that the team behind the movies UNDERSTAND and are motivated to stay true to the core of these characters.

I didn’t even think about how Shadow’s backstory with Maria has been reiterated three times this year LOL. I’m really happy to hear that it was well-done though. Like you said, Shadow is that one sensitive character that a lot of people love but he’s super easy to screw up. So I’m glad so much love and care was put into his backstory and characterization. I’m also relieved to hear about Keanu (because people were starting to have doubts after the DLC for SXSG came out). You can tell he loved being in the role and I cannot wait to hear him in a full cutscene!

I just watched the movie last night and there are no words to describe the feeling I have when I watched this movie. The only thing that could describe it is like if I was on cloud 9. The fact that we are alive on this planet where we are getting a live action Sonic Movie universe is surreal to me. Let alone we got to watch Shadow the hedgehog on the big screen. I was emotional and teared up because the emotions just hit me all at once and to see how well it was don was everything I could have asked for. The fact that we are already getting Sonic movie 4 just proves how successful video game films can be when done the right way. Sure Robotnik was goofy and so was Gerald but I didn’t care. Jim Carey put his magnificent twist into these characters that made it work and it was never over the top for me. To me they were still Eggman and Gerald was Gerald. Gerald was even crazier than in SA2 in my opinion. I respect that your girlfriend is not as much of a fan of Sonic compared to us but I love how she admits it was still a good/fun movie and how she’s excited for Sonic 4. The post credit scenes I will not mention but I’ll just say I lost it when I watched the first one.
