This looks really interesting. Idk why Sega doesn't just release a retro sonic game of all the old unreleased ideas they had. It's so obvious a lot of sonic fans love this stuff and would pay for it. Sonic Mania was an okay attempt, but for me it was still missing that "old feel". Could also be that Sega didn't keep archives of unused stuff like Square Enix did. Since back in the day they didn't know people would have nostalgia value in their games lol.

Sonic Mania was a deep love for S3&K explored, the idea that that same type of love can be applied to an earlier Sonic game is astounding. S1 and S3&K have similar but different vibes and I love that S1 gets this treatment. I hope it gets finished too. Would love to see Sega legitimize this like Mania.

S1's art direction was based on Surreal Late 80s CGi Aesthetics S3K's art direction was based on Tridimensionality Both games are less based around going fast when compared to Sonic 2 So yeah S1 & S3K feel Similar Somewhat

There's concept art of that wing-flapping boss from the same perspective too. Given it's status as a prequel, I feel Eggman as the enemy doesn't feel quite right. Maybe someone else from the concept art reimagined instead. And if this is all about the S1 concept art, they just HAVE to have the band Sonic and Vector were in! Even though she's from the movieverse, would be nice to see an AU Longclaw in thus game given how underutilized she was.

This whole game is looking like something truly special! The boss of Granite Zone might be my favorite thing about it, purely due to how... legit it feels. Sonic Team _would_ add some pseudo 3D gimmick into their game that showcases the capabilities of the console... after all, they've been doing it even since the first game with the Special Stages! It may not involve any platforming, but still, I love it!

Not sure what the drop dash criticism is about. That's just f***ing stupid. Sonic 1 just had running, jumping and rolling. Sonic 2 added spindash, an NPC that followed alongside Sonic, multiplayer and Super Sonic (oh and also the option to play as Tails solo, but it's more or less the same except no Super Tails here). Sonic 3 & Knuckles added the jump shield attack, various effect shields and 3 playable characters with unique abilities each. Sonic CD added the 8-wheel dash and Sonic 4 pretty much turned into Knuckles Chaotix and had the use-each-other's--momentum gimmick. Anyhow, point is that every new 2D Genesis entry for Sonic added movement options. The drop dash in Sonic Mania is an amazing addition that's very much in line with what the classic games added. It's besides that it's just stupid to criticize since it's a superb option to get a speed boost and play with momentum. It's probably the best addition to Sonic's movement since the spindash was introduced since with this you can turn around without having to come to a complete stop first and having to build up speed again. I can't imagine a better addition to 2D Sonic.
