Very good review. It would be really interesting to hear your final FINAL thoughts after the three DLCs are available. By the way, here is an interesting idea for a video: an analysis of every fightin style in the Sonic franchise (the skill tree in Frontiers, the Werehog in Unleashed, all of Sonic Battle, etc).

Thanks Marcos! I was thinking i might cover all the DLCs after they're released, assuming i'll have alot to say about them. Part 2 of this video will have some speculations, so it could be fun to see what, if anything, i got right.

As a person who started this game 2 weeks before the last DLC, I loved it. Glad to see a review speaking well of it even before the DLC cus I'm sure I would have loved it even then but you're the first utuber i see speaming highly of its older state

Thanks for talking about this! It's very consice but also balanced. I'd reccomend checking out the game again after an update or two as well! For they plan to add some other moves, and fix some issues.

For the combat im pretty sure the holding block button is for the handicapped who have trouble timing stuff... I say that cause you can just tap the button and every issue is gone. On another combat note i wish the skills didnt override the regular combat, his ball shooting skill for instance cancels spin dash which has a knockback property added to it so you can do flashy combos.

I'm all for accessibility in gaming, but i feel a no-timing option would be better if that's really what they were going for, especially when playing in hard mode. And yeah, it would be nice if the skills could be toggled on or off. Some of the more flashy ones would sometimes get in the way in certain battles.

@@BobbyBionic But why waste more time implementing a toggle option and section in options when it's a issue that isn't an actual issue. If you tapped it and it still held him in the air for like 2 seconds as default then I could see a point and would be annoyed but that's not how the block works thankfully. For instance in Pokemon your team always shares XP now and people rightfully hated that cause it leads to overleveling, that is something that needs a toggle but that's cause it took away from the player.

Regarding pop-in, pretty much every 3D Sonic game since Unleashed had it. It's just that it was far less noticeable in those linear levels. They really gotta figure out some sort of level-of-detail solution for this.

I like how much less cheesy the dialogue is and especially the bond between sonic & tails. I’m just worried where they plan on going with tails’ character considering him saying he wanted to go off on his own. I want to see him more and more of their brotherly bond in future games-not less as he implies. Also, I’d love to see his character grow to be more than the whole mechanic thing and for him to learn that he can fight just as well as the others. It was just him and sonic in sonic 2 for example and he helped defeat robotnik and fought just as much as sonic did, despite being a kid. Tails can kick butt! 😆

I'd like to see Tails stand on his own a bit more, only with the knowledge that him and Sonic aren't too far apart. I like how Sonic Adventure handled it where Tails would follow Sonic in some of his levels, and Sonic would race him in his own. And they'd interact in the hub worlds and during scenes, but also go off and play their own parts of the story. More than anything i'm excited to see him get out of the sidelines and put that dang tablet down, haha

But in Unleashed, Tails was unfamiliar with those Dark Gaia creatures and was surrounded by 7 of them. I think you're being a little harsh snd unreasonable there. I agree with you on Forces though

I wasn't referring to that scene specifically, it's just visually it kind of went with what i was saying. My main point was that ever since Unleashed, Tails has stopped doing things on his own, or even fighting alongside Sonic. Instead he became just the guy that gives him info between the levels, letting Sonic take care of everything else.

Reused levels are an interesting topic, especially now that Sonic x Shadow Generations revived the discussion around it... I don't think my opinion is unpopular, or a hot take by any means of measurement, but I believe the real issue is in the lack of innovation... that aside, I really like when levels are reused to add something new and interesting onto them, or even keeping them similar with the difference of approaching them with a completely new perspective, like Green Hill in SA2 and Gens. My issue with Frontiers isn't really bringing back 3 levels, it's the nigh-absolute lack of variety in themes, all islands share the 4 level aesthetics when they could've easily used each a set of its own.
