The reasoning behind this alternate version is I have always felt that the original song had the kick drum and snare drum the wrong way around. I dont know if it was intentional or if it was something that Howard Drossin didn't notice until after develop ment but i find the kick and snare patterns really hard to follow and decided to swap them around for fun. I actually think it sounds better this way

Sonic spinball has a lot of weird quirkiness in its music, stuff like channels straight up dying after the first loop, playing FASTER in the pal version and weird emulation glitches. This is a huge improvement though, hope someone does this for the genesis track too.

Normally in music the snare will be on the upbeat. But I feel like he did the snare on beats 1 and 3 to not distract from the melody, which has more notes on beats 2 and 4. With your version, the snare does distract from the melody because you can't hear the repeated notes of the melody because of the shortly sustained snare on beats 2 and 4. That's my opinion

This track exudes menace in every note. It's like you're about to escape the clutches of the villain, but then the elevator door at the end of the hall opens to reveal either the right-hand baddie or a squad of elites. I love it.

An interesting way to shake up the original song and considering how small a change it is, it's kind of amazing how it entirely alters the tone of the song. Even if nothing was done to the tempo, putting the two kicks in front gives the track a much greater sense of speed, considering every beat of the song has 2 focal points, those being the first kick and then the snare. Because of how overpowering the snare was at the beginning of every beat in the original, the two kicks proceeding it are much less in focus, feeling more like the residue of the snare's industrial clang. Tapping my foot to both versions, I feel an inclination to double-time my tapping on this version because of this very reason. Honestly speaking, I do prefer how the original goes regardless. This is a song that carries a sort of menace to it, it's more lethargic pace giving a heavy weight to every beat. I'd describe it by comparing the percussion to footsteps. The original's heavy snare is like the thunderous stomp of impending doom, it's gravity punctuated by the blast-zone the two kicks give it (Or if you wanna be more dramatic, the two kicks representing the heartbeat of rising tension). Meanwhile, with the kicks and snare giving two focal points and helping to create a more consistent spacing between notes when ordered that way, it sounds more like the urgent rush of the hero, charging head-long into battle with courageous vigor. Given the things you fight set to this theme, I consider the former more appropriate a description.
