Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) [Shadow] (No Commentary)

This is a playthrough of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) for Xbox 360.
Everything I could possibly say for Sonic '06 has been said already, it's a technical disaster with an unnecessarily convoluted plot; but it is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. It's the quintessential video game trainwreck, and for that I applaud it.

Actually I think this game doesn't really show Shadow's true self. Or betrays his character in so many ways. Unless this was before Sonic Heroes. Which is not. He still is wondering about who he is as a person. Which in Sonic Heroes, Sonic Adventure 2 etc made it clear that he found a piece of himself. He was a person with mortals and actually protected the innocent with his heart meaning it. This game is just an edgy ad for him. I know nobody asked but I wanted to add this. This game the most we're ever gonna ever get for Shadow unless the new game does him well.

This wasn't exactly Shadow's game and yet Shadow stole the show with his much better written story and is the one who directly confronted the villain on several occasions. So Shadow deserves the plaudits for that.

@TheTrueGamer66 yeah it is a little tricky, but it does have an explanation. In 57:00 ish Rouge told Omega to look after shadow, and he hinted that he will follow given commands no matter what. When Iblis destroyed the world Omega was programed to capture Shadow, and when he did so he had no further purpose. So he just sat there, waiting for orders.

I agree. We got a weird Paramount Dora Rugrats Sonic movie. Imagine if we got an interesting Imagi TMNT Astro Boy Sonic movie. The 4kids actors would be there, but Tails is voiced by Freddie Highmore as opposed to Amy Palant. And the orchestral works would be performed by Gregor F Narholz (as conductor) and some sort of large film orchestra, with the Daisensei Muroya Strings in there. Sometimes, even new works by Takahito Eguchi, Hideaki Kobayashi, Taihei Sato (alt. tai-hey), Mariko Nanba, Tomoya Ohtani, Jun Senoue, Seirou Okamoto, etc.

Man, this game got Shadow right! I love his dynamic with Mephiles and how he calls out his bs offer. Mephiles is merely appealing to the animosity towards mankind that he believes Shadow harbors. To what end isn't entirely clear, but Shadow sees right through it! Shadow's campaign was definitely the best!

PREACH! I love how Shadow, Rouge and Omega are great friends who form their own version of "Team Sonic." Hopefully in the movie universe we can get a "Team Dark" Spin-off show like Knuckles is getting. They could be a G.U.N. task force who are sent out to deal with dangerous missions against Robotnicks Robots he has in his numerous hidden base. The fact that G.U.N. was just formed in the movie universe helps this a lot because they are so new they couldn't have been the ones to kill Maria, so Shadow joining G.U.N. is WAY more believable.

Honestly I disagree. And i don't even hate this game. I think the controls are what's holding it back, they just don't feel right, and that's emphasized by the level design, which feels like it was made with SA1 controls in mind. In fact, P06 could be a buggy mess, and i would still consider it one of my favourite sonic games because the controls are just so much fun.

06 Shadow's gamplay, in concept, would probably be the best implementation of Shadow in any Sonic game, with it's emphasis on chaos powers. The issue is that most of the mechanics that make up his playstyle don't work properly. For starters, Shadow is too slow and stiff like all the other characters. He should control more like SA2. The only one of his three chaos powers that is viable to use is the first one, the Chaos Snap. It helps Shadow mow down packs of enemies faster. But even then it has a weird glitch where Shadow drops like a rock if he has no additional enemies to attack. This means you must avoid activating it by lightly tapping the button when homing attacking over bottomless pits, lest you fall to your doom. That can get aggravating. The Chaos Spear stuns enemies, but the only time it is ever useful is to keep the iblis worms from burrowing underground. The upgraded Chaos Spear, the Chaos Lance, can damage enemies, but isn't any faster than using the Chaos Snap, the attack range sucks, and the additional energy cost isn't worth it. The Chaos Blast has a horrendously short range, and he hangs in the air for like 3 seconds to unleash the blast, and will probably only kill one enemy. You need to be in point blank range, it costs lots of energy and is too slow. The range needs to be increased, like how it is in Shadow 2005, where it's a screen nuke. The vehicles would be fun, but they have a fatal flaw: they tip over and bounce around too easily and sometimes take damage for no reason. SEGA needs to learn that their concepts aren't inherently bad, they're badly executed and rushed. Instead of constantly ditching ideas in favor of making new ones, improve your old ones. Stop rushing unfinished products out the door, or else the series will never be able to go beyond Forces level mediocrity, and more ambitious titles like 06 will end up becoming glitchy dumpster fires.

Oh my God, you are literally speaking the truth !!! In concept, 06 had the best moveset Shadow could have gotten (minus the absence of the Spindash and Slide Attack). But there's hope. Have you ever heard of P-06 ? It's a fanmade remake of 06 on PC aiming at fixing, improving the game to a complete state similar to the Adventure games, and going as far as restoring unused content. As of today, we got 3 demos already, covering all of Sonic's stages, so Shadow should be next. kzbin.info/www/bejne/emKvfpyvabVkpcU But if we look at SEGA/Sonic Team, things are nowhere near as bright. If anything, the past 10 years have been nothing but regression after regression. Colors was a dull blocky 2D platformer with a really shallow Boost gameplay and the Wisps were obnoxious gimmicks that worked either like poorman versions of other characters or were just stupid minigames for filler. Generations felt like a watered down beta build of Unleashed with clunkier controls sold as brand new, with a crappy Classic Sonic as filler. Lost World was....embarassing. And then we got Forces. SEGA and Sonic Team have pandered SO LONG to the basement dwelling crowd hating on 06, to the point of no return.
