I love the new Sonic design. The effect of making the eyes rounder makes Sonic look more friendly. His nose is also smaller in the new look. In particular trailer images, the lighting has also been changed to make Sonic brighter over all. Sonic has now been given gloves. It's the way the character has been seen in video games and animated series so we don’t have to see his 5 human-like fingers anymore like they did in the first trailer. Sonic’s legs aren't quite as long as the first one, and he’s no longer wearing standard running shoes, which helps him look more like an animated character and less like a person.

The fact that paramount swallowed their pride to redo the design is enough reason to give the film a watch... Of course, it could also be a evil marketing scheme. They probably had both designs from the get-go. Seems suspiciously fast for them to redo the design through the whole movie.

Take this with a grain of salt, but they did say that they had made Sonic on an animation rig, as an animator what this means is that all they had to do was create a new animated design and hook it up to the rig that they had, likely give a few touchups to his animated movements, and then re-render the scenes he was in to fix it up. Now still is this possibility that they had planned a marketing ploy for a bad Sonic from the get-go, but recreating the scenes off of an animation rig wouldn't be too hard or time consuming.

One super big thing you should keep in mind is, a finished trailer does not equal a finished movie. There is a high chance they are still working on the movie. And that also means the first trailer was also made with a not fully done movie, so less to change.

To be honest, I respect the hell out of this director. Not only did he ACTUALLY listen to the community unlike most directors who don’t give a shit about what people say, he apologized for it on Twitter, pushed the movie back to 2020 ANNND he managed to pour love into everyone’s favorite hedgehog and he looks WAYYYYYY BETTER ❤️. At this point I forgive him for that other mess of a trailer, because he deserves it! A movie director actually LISTENED and APOLOGIZED. I’m definitely showing him love by seeing it.

It was the coolest Sonic the Hedgehog trailer ever! I'm stoked to see that movie. Paramount and Sega done a marvelous job for redesigning Sonic in a much better character design. I'm gonna see it next February. Also playing classic Sonic games as a countdown for that flick. I hope they'll make a much better animated series with Sally, Amy, Tails, Rotor, Dulcy, Rotor, the Chaotix gang, Knuckles and many few characters in the Sonic universe. This trailer was a while lot better than the trailer they released months ago. Wow big difference it made for Sonic the Hedgehog. The game backdrop with the rings he creates to make doorways as well as the sound effects are just perfect. Agree with the kudos to the VFX artists. Though I feel I should point out that this is not the first time Paramount had to re-design a character due to audience backlash. It actually happened at least twice before. One was during the first Transformers movie where they redesigned Megatron's face because their original design looked too different from source material. Another was with Monster Truck where the original design for the monster was so scary that children in the test audience cried. So they probably had some practice
