I did it once in emerald hill zone 2. I didn’t even know what I was doing but I hit a bad nick going into a speed monitor and then on an invincibility monitor and beating the boss. If I’m not mistaken it was like 32 secs like what this guy did in green hill zone act 3. I was laughing when I did it. And the best thing is that this was on iPad.

Turns out that even trying to go as fast as possible, you can only do that in less than half the stages in the game. Green Hill 3 though... the fact that the devs put the tree boxes in those exact spots to allow that to happen is actually incredible

I've completed the game with chaos emeralds 4 times, and my best time is 55:18. I've practiced and test runned. I'm still trying to get better at speed running, but I was super thrilled last night to get my best time yet😁👍

@Shrek in-game time is under 15 though. My assumption is that because the results screen takes longer to count your points the better you do on that stage, people prefer to go by the in-game timer so that doing better on an individual stage doesn't arbitrarily make your overall run time worse due to the results screen.

TheVdub1980 idk. There is definitely a lot of nostalgia for me since I played this as my first sonic game when I was a kid. But, looking back on it, the levels seem to get easier and easier (goes from running through the level fast, to precision jumps and timing, then back to just going fast and taking your time). I think this game is great but I wouldn't say it's the best one. 100% a classic tho and very iconic

The funny thing is, as someone who dabbles in speedrunning; I can tell places where the runner made slip-ups. But that's what I love about glitchless full runs; you can tell a real person did it because of the flaws. :) Sonic 1 in 15 minutes. Take that Egghead.

You can even tell it's captured from a Genesis cuz of the bars on the top and bottom and the glitchy line of pixels in the lower bar.

Well it's not a glitchy line, it's the vertical blanking lines. Usually these lines are hidden due to CRT overscan. Why this happens is because clever programming of Genesis itself - swapping stuff mid horizontal blank. This is how you can have double the limit of Genesis Colors on water zone of Sonic games - normal colers above and shaded bellow. And blasting processing is an actual thing - changing color palletes and other stuff mid horizontal blanking is the actual name of this feature/technique.

IJust curious: is that an intentional feature when you go into that wall at 5:50 , like a wall in the foreground that you can run behind, or is it because you were taking damage while walking through? It's just foreground, there's no wall there at all. One of those tricks old 2D games used to pull on you
