Something I learned was that early on, the fight-y portions were supposed to be done by Knuckles. It was Tails, Sonic and Knuckles going on an adventure, but fans were so adamant of only wanting to play as Sonic that they changed it into a weird wolf thing because they figured fans would like that bettter. Personally, I would have preferred it being the Triple Threat.

As I saw the video winding down, and the level was just about to load...I wondered to myself "How is this video going to end? Will they get a crash like Shadow did? Or will they simply be so bored of the game they sign off and never come back to Unleashed again?" Then I witnessed the evil that will haunt me for years. And upon seeing the incarnate of all gaming atrocities I did hear the shrill voice in my headphones that caused me to frighten ever so. It was a loud, high pitched sound. You know the most tragic thing? This was a really great game other than the 70% where you have to play as the slothhog. I really liked the European theme that was going on visually, and in the music.. but I just quit because I was sick of spamming attack buttons at pointless enemies for hours just to "win" 30 seconds of Sonic gameplay. In this game, Sonic gameplay felt like a reward.

+FreekinEkin2 I liked the visual concept of Sonic Unleashed. The people looked very disney like, which I felt was appropriate. At least it was not like 06 where they went full on Final Fantasy with the human characters. As for the gameplay, I guess it's an acquired taste if anyone liked the Werehog levels. In the daytime stages, I felt Sonic went too fast. At least Colors and Generations fixed the problem. My only gripe is the final F*** level Eggmanland, where the stage took an hour to beat. Fuck that stage.

Lod776 Looking back, I'm not surprised Sonic hasn't fared well, in all honesty. Sonic, much like Castlevania, can not exist in the 3D plane of existence. In Sonic's case, a core gameplay design based around "moving fast" and "platforming," two things that get kind of finicky on their own in the 3rd dimension, together just break into pieces and become a mess. Unlike Castlevania, however, Sonic Team has just been desperately pushing the same garbage out over and over and over and over hoping to all of their Furry OC Gods that the game will be good. And yes, it doesn't matter if it's Sonic 3D Blast for the Wii U, Sonic Colors (which suffered the most towards the end), the "Modarn Sanic" stages in Generations, or even the Adventures Series, they're all games desperately doing the same thing, even if its slightly tweaked each time. Poor, poor Sonic.

I don't agree, their games haven't always been great thats true, but they were never the same. Sonic adventure 2 vs 1 made a shitload of changes, the same with all 3d sonic games. Sonic 06 is a piece of shit, but it isn't similar at all to other sonic games, heroes changed a lot of stuff too, unleashed introduced the werehog (wich sucks btw), and lost world isn't similar to other 3d sonic games, except that its a platformer with speed. All that to say that yes some of them are pieces of shit, but they arent always the same at all. Sonic 1,2,3 are way more similar than all 3d sonic games in comparison.

Snoopy double G Even among the people who unironically liked the Adventure series, I thought the general consensus that the Not-Sonic (Shadow) levels were bloody terrible in both of the games. And by my math, that's 5/6 (or are there 7 characters?) of Adventure 1, and 2/3 of Adventure 2. And when more than 50% of the game can be considered bad...eurgh. Also, I'd suggest go back and play them. I liked them as a kid, but playing them now is....*shudders* Although, I must ask: What isn't similar about the Modarn Sanic stages in Generations, Unleashed, Colors for you? They seem all...samey, I guess, to me. Sure, there are different levels of polish (with Colors being the best in my opinion), but they all function on the same set of: moving too fast forward with limited left and right control along a path, moving too fast forward with side-stepping, or side-scrolling segments that are an atrocity against mankind in Unleashed, and fairly playable (with the occasional unfair segment) in the other two.

It seems to me that 90% of the people who've played this and Generations are like reviewers playing character action games. They don't play it properly. These games are fun at high level play, when you know what you're doing it's the fastest gameplay that exists in any game. But I know you're out there my brothers. The ones who have your perfect routes that you run through each level after countless playthroughs. The ones who avoid that dash panel because you know that it actually slows you down slightly. We are the ones who truly see the pure awesomeness that Unleashed created. (And then we just don't talk about the Werehog)
