I know a lot of it is theyre trying to market Shadow to a new gen of kids re: the lead up to the movie but oh do I love that theyre reminding us hes the coolest guy around lately. People can make the point he gets way too much as it is compared to other characters and like, I get it, but Shadow is so insanely popular for a reason and thats pretty obvious any time he shows up in something just based on how people tend to talk about him. But man would I love for this to be a good comprehensive summary of his story that cleans up the messy patches and doesnt ignore the unsightly like 06. Give your most well liked member of the extended cast a good offramp for people to understand him because that does a lot of showing new people one of the biggest charm points of Sonic: the cast. A game where people have the time to grow to like someone who isnt Sonic or Knuckles or Tails is so great for that.

So true!!! Shadow was and still is the coolest and I’m glad Sonic Team is exploring past games/themes that were not widely accepted during the release of ShTH. That’s also true, with the success of the Shadow portion of Generations could lead to Sonic Team exploring other characters like Tails, Knuckles and Silver. Exciting stuff!

There’s a revenue aspect to SEGA’s strategy. By naming it Sonic x Shadow Generations, SEGA immediately gets the support and approval from the Sonadow community, further increasing sales. Additionally, fans will practically do all the marketing for SEGA with their fan art and fanfics! 😆

In my opinion, this is the best move Sonic Team could've made. A simple remaster of probably the most universally-liked 3D Sonic game would've been satisfactory enough, but pulling a Bowser's Fury and giving Shadow a campaign making him relive his own past stages like Final Chase and Westopolis and fight bosses like Black Doom and the Biolizard (Sonic fought it in the 3DS version for some reason) is that one step beyond. Plus if Shadow's physics are ripped right from Generations, it means we'll have a new 3D campaign with a great control scheme for the first time since...well, Generations. I don't think Shadow will have as many stages as the main campaign though. I feel like he'll have a stage for every game he's been playable in, like Final Chase for SA2, Grand Metropolis for Heroes, Westopolis for Shadow, White Acropolis for 06, and...that's kinda it (maybe that water slide stage from his three-stage campaign in Forces. Maybe).

That’s a great point! Fingers crossed there will be at least a couple stages from ShTH and 06. I think Kingdom Valley would also be a great stage for Shadow. That stage looks so gorgeous and it could be a great opportunity for Sonic Team to “redeem” the stage’s reputation for its tedious/frustrating sections.

I'm SO happy they are doing this. It's so hard for newer fans or even kids to experience and understand Shadow's story arc when 2 of the 3 major games are trapped on older consoles, seemingly never to be re-released and SA2 is really only accessible on steam and not modern consoles. Having this game introduce a scenario that streamlines the process of explaining his backstory and why he's such a deep character is the best thing I could have asked for. From what we know it really seems to be heavily focus on the Shadow 05 aspect of the story but I really hope they add Mephiles to tie it all together. This is really not likely to happen but I'd love to see them add Infinite as well since his character desperately deserves redemption to live up to what he should have been in Forces but if Black Doom can come back then anything is possible.

Sadly I don't think Mephiles or Infinite are coming back. The plot synopsis for the game states Black Doom is the main antagonist and it heavily implies Shadow's campaign is going on at the same time during Sonic Generations so it's before Forces. If this is the case, I have to wonder how long the story will be. I have no problem with Black Doom being the main antagonist, I just don't think only SA2 and StH05 will suffice for a lengthy campaign. I can also see a new villain being introduced but we'll wait and see.

There was a description that stated that Shadow will be facing “familiar foes” but I’m taking these descriptions with a grain of salt since some seem to contradict each other. I guess we’ll have to wait and see! Fingers crossed that Shadow’s campaign will be more than just a 3 stage experience like it was in Forces. I think if Black Doom can return in a Sonic game after so many years, then Infinite can definitely return in a later game… though I’m not too sure about Mephiles. Either way, it’s exciting to see Black Doom return!

I am here for the Shadow OST remakes. Ahem, ***Digital Circuit*** But I have reservations regarding bringing Shadow 05 to modern sonic games. I really liked the freedom of the Heroes engine that Shadow 05 used especially since you could use the engine without having to deal with the team mechanics. Huge nitpick, I know. They obviously wouldn’t bring back the engine for this but I hope they stay true to how the game felt in some way. Looking forward to your thoughts when more drops :)

Aww yeah! Glad this is happenin'! Cheesy 90s quotes aside, I'm genuinely excited to play this version of the game. As a kid, I only ever played the 3ds version, which is also a fun game, but this version just looks a lot more fun! I could have played the console version on the PC at least, but you know how screwy computers can sometimes be. 🤣 I feel like Radical Highway, Westopolis, and maybe a stage from Heroes or 06 could be there, and I could also see Biolizard and Black Bull as a boss.

Hold on… “team dark cannot be a thing and shadow doesnt consider rouge or omega as friends”? What the fuck… like genuinely why would you ruin probably one of the best friend groups/teams like that? Team Dark is suuuuuch a great team and I looooove how even though each of their personalities contrast each other, they’re still able to have such a close bond. Haha no worries - I’m 90% sure that mandate is a misunderstanding because that isn’t the case for SEGA JP’s character portrayals at all. (Especially with the December 2023 Sonic Channel story.) I take the most of the mandates with a grain of salt because it’s either been contradicted in the games/comics or misinterpreted by the fans.

Anti Archie? To be fair Archie did basically screw over Sega in that lawsuit also turning Sonic the Hedgehog comics into a very annoying melodrama until Ian saved the comics twice. I'm honestly not surprised Sega wanted the mandates to ensure nothing like what happened in preboot Archie never happens again.
