A lot of people don't understand what was going on at the time. The world was already out-casting child star McCauley...who had additionally just got married at 18..which for some reason the tabloids, etc. were really harsh on him for. The girl (Rachel Miner) in the video was his "new" wife. Sonic Youth has always tried to turn culture on it's head and expose it for it's vapid cruelness.

I had some friends back in 2001-03 who worked with McCauley in a theater group. I had never met anyone famous before and at the time I thought it was so cool they got to know this world wide star. But this was also during all of the chaos and from the way they talked about it the fame was such poison to McCauley. All of these stories about him, his family, and his relationship were in the tabloids and here was this kid who was trying to push through it all and still stay sane. Watching this reminds me of how young he was at that time.

@@antivist664 I think it was intended to be ambiguous so you could interpret it however you want; it's whatever it means to you. I've heard people suggest the "falling in love" part, but have also seen people say it's about drug use (you can fall in love with a drug/ how the drug makes you feel). To me, it's more a "coming of age" song. The "phase" being youthful love and trying to fill time on the weekends. Also, by the end of the song, it's implied whatever the feeling that was there is fleeting, just like youth does.

1:33 In case you wondered... Thurston was 40 here. The guy didn't age until he was 50, I swear

I just watched Bull in the Heather vid and comments were just age shaming Kim for being 40 then. Weird world just saying.

Love your taste in music, man....for me though I dont consider one band favourite....it's just a whole rank of good bands and artists (mostly from 60ies up untill 90ies) standing next to each other in my personal 'hall of fame'....

Sunday comes alone again A perfect day for a quiet friend And you - you will set it free I see new morning yound yr face Everybody sez its another phase And now - now its come to me See the magic in yr eyes I see it come as no surprise And you - you turn yr eyes away Yeah you - you turn it all away I guess its true its never too late Still I don't know what to do today Oh why - can't I set you free Will you - do the same for me Sunday comes and sunday goes Sunday always seems to move so slow To me - here she comes again A perfect ending to a perfect day A perfect ending what can I say To you - lonely sunday friend With you - sunday never ends

I played this full recording a ga-gillion times when it was released…amazing road music when hitting the freeway as well.. they could have made this a 15 minutes song and I would have listened to it just as often.

Haven't heard this song / looked McCully in his mesmerizing eyes (for so long) since the last time I watched my Sonic Youth DVD with all of the music videos, which was a very long, long, long time ago... I don't think I've watched any of my music DVDs in over 5 or 6 years probably. But the funny thing is it's Sunday and 4am, and out of nowhere this just pops up in my playlist. Thank you, algorithm... sometimes you provide something different and fitting.... I didn't have my screen on the page, but once I heard that intro I knew it was Sonic Youth.... they're indescribable, but have a particular sound to almost all of their music past the early early points with the pure noise & chaos... I recall when I bought my first tube amp that I still own to this day... It was at a guitar center or sam ash, I can' recall, but I had just bought a DC-3 Danelectro and asked one of the store clerks like a dork what type of amp would help me achieve Sonic Youth's sound..... His response? Pretty brilliant... "try playing with screwdrivers and stuff".... ha. Before the days of internet sites that literally have every single piece of gear an artist has ever used listed on their page with dates of use and other crazy tidbits..... Anyway, I go through periods where I forget just how good Sonic Youth was. Consistently putting out very good albums. A lot of periods seem to blend, but that's not a horrible thing. I like how they would kind of swing in a certain direction for an album or two (I always thought Dirty and Goo could go hand-in-hand, for example), and then take it in a slightly different way for the next couple of releases. They always had a certain sound, and it stayed fresh. I saw Kim Gordon live a year ago and it was kind of cool, but nothing like Sonic Youth or even Free Kitten.... I'm still betting on a reunion tour or maybe just a few shows at some point in time if they live long enough, hatred of each other or otherwise. Money does things to everybody and when there's one last chance to bank in, even bands like Sonic Youth might take it. Kim didn't have a huge audience...I'll just say that.

WHY IS MACAULAY SO ATTRACTIVE? Uggh

I liked the video because Maculay was in it. The music was a nice jam too.
